Report: Patriots hire Will Lawing to offensive staff

The Patriots are hiring Will Lawing for a position on their offensive staff, Mike Reiss of ESPN reports.

Lawing worked with Bill O'Brien at Penn State, Houston and Alabama in various offensive roles. Do not yet know what his role in NE will be. He was the TE coach in Houston and an "offensive analyst" at Alabama.

Maybe it was worded poorly. I was trying to say it would seem natural if the number of hires continued and ended up being a high total.

Caley stays only if he can't even get a lateral move anywhere decent.

Of course. I was in on the meetings, have recordings, statements from staffers under oath, and both Bill and Caley told me their feelings at length on a candlelit dinner.

If I had proof it'd be more than a hypothesis.

His father Brad was a big time college DL coach. He coached a bunch of future first round picks like Clowney, Easley, Melvin Ingram, and Dante Fowler.

Caley is an enigma.
We keep hearing he's a great young coaching talent, but they're treating him like he's completely expendable.
It will be interested to see if Caley doesn't get the OC job in HOU, if he stays with the Pats, and if he's still the TE coach.
Lawing seems to continue as "offensive assistant" - which could be in the old O'shea role. RZ specialist, or whatever.

Yeah, that's what I mean. If they let O'Brien bring in a lot of "his guys" then they're at a big risk if he leaves in 2 years and takes them. Unless he never leaves and just takes over, and many of "his guys" move up one level when he does so. But again, that is just a theory.
