Pre-Free Agency 2023

i was looking thru the list, and to be quite honest, i had no idea who most of those guys were... I'd need to do some digging to determine who is worth their salt, and who isnt... just dont know enough about the other teams players to give an honest assessment...
Cousin, Check out this young man. Vikings ERFA Blake Brandel OT. When Darrisaw went down Brandel came in and was perhaps their highest rated OL guy on the Vikes . An under the Radar BB type signing. Small dollars $825. The Vikings are 27th on the CAP list and under water. An offer should win. .
At Oregon State:
Team captain as a senior; earned a 93.1 pass-blocking grade (the best in the nation) from Pro Football Focus.

Keeping an ERFA is simple for NFL teams. They just have to extend a qualifying offer to the player, and he is unable to negotiate with another team. A “qualifying offer” is simply a one-year contract at the league minimum salary.

PFF rates him pretty well.

Automatically our best OT.

Speaking of Vikes, would you take a shot at 32 year old Adam Thielen to be our new go to guy? $14mm but look what we paid Agholor. Thielen had 70 catches and 6 TD's in an off year. How much comfort would he be for Jones. Thielen and BB already had a run in so you know BB respects him.

As an official escorted Thielen back toward the Vikings huddle, Belichick told the receiver to “shut the f–k up.” Ah.......the start of a beautiful relationship.

I'm glad you brought up that last point about thielen ... For some reason I don't think he'd come here lol

1) We should Not have extended Shack Mason so early; SB52 was proof positive of that.

2) We should have, however, extended Thuney after the 2018 season; SB53 was proof positive of that.
Or traded mid season during Cam's season. We could have got a 3rd rounder for him . I am not sure if we got any compensatory pick for thuney . We ended up signing a bunch of FA in 2021.

If we lose Meyers, perhaps it would force BOB to design more plays for Smith Cousin.
He has speed and talent. I believe Smith had a faster 40 than Meyers.

We have to find a "move the sticks" guy. Maybe it's Smith. I think it could be a guy like Gesicki who can play many roles.

Is Smith intelligent enough to run routes ???

If they signed YOU, the same story is true.

posted this in the Toys thread, meant to post it here...

would anyone take a flier on the saints Michael Thomas? he reworked his deal so the saints take a lesser hit when he goes... so he will be available...

i will say up front that the guy has needed an emergency room on the sidelines over the past few seasons, but would you take him a one year prove-it deal? He's not getting the big bucks because of his injury history imo... could be an interesting prospective signing...

any interest or a hard pass?
Cousin, A better option might be Paris Campbell FA from the Colts. He , like Thomas had his own personalized "tub" in Indy. He was always hurt, but the last six games of this 2022 season he got healthy and caught fire,
He has 3.31 40 and over a 40 vertical, He had better numbers than Terry McLaurin at Ohio State. He is not a small WR either.
Brings us more speed and maybe relatively cheap because of past injuries.
Colts have enough money to resign him though.

He is the type wide out Mac had at Alabama.

Now if we could give him another second and a half protection..............

No Cousins...Jonnu Smith cannot be Traded with that ridiculous contract this year: based on his two years here he has no value to another Team. The FA TE's mentioned above are better and more valuable to Teams looking for one. We know why Mike Gisicki's numbers dropped last year I would love for us to pursue him and use him in the Slot as you said. We need to get back the middle of the field. I wouldn't be against Trading H Henry he has more value than Jonnu Smith.
The smith FA signing, would be in my opinion the same BB blunder as the nkeal Harry draft pick.. Henry has a pretty hefty contract as well. I feel keeping Henry is beneficial to Mac and the Bill o'Brien offense.. so we are stuck with smith unless BB does a restructure.

Didn’t they just restructure his deal?

That is interesting.. I don't recall hearing anything on smith's contract restructuring

Wow, that's really fast... Sign the beast!

Was looking at available we free agents, then at those available in the draft... Man, its slim pickings... Might be better off resigning Jakobi (i want him here, no doubt... he's worth retaining despite the higher than typical eventual price tag) and working a trade, if possible...

Could also make a run at OBJ...

Smith is too good of an athlete to be this useless. 4.62 and 37 inch vert at nearly 250 lbs. 3rd highest TD total for TEs in 2020 with 8.

There’s no denying that the signing has been a disaster so far but I am choosing to go glass completely full on him for 2023 with BOB calling plays. As a first time father of a 9-month-old, I am going to give him a pass for 2021. New city, new offense, new pandemic and a newborn. I’m also giving every pass-catcher a mulligan for 2022, given what we now know about leadership on offense. He is unlikely to ever live up to his contract but I would be happy if he eliminated the bonehead, negative plays, and made some impactful plays in important games with 6-8 TDs.

I think there are some decent prospects in this year's draft who can help us, not only throughout day 2 but also the first half of day 3... And we need all the help we can get at X, Y & Z ASAP.

the bengals line needs to be upgraded... they should make a run a Brown, maybe a mike mcglinchey, if they have the cap space
The Bengals need to have a healthy OL.

Their center literally limped through the playoffs.

One of their OL's has one 2022 start, two others had none.

They had one healthy starting OL.

One of these things is not like the others.

I agree. The Berrios love is so wierd. The JETE might be cutting him. Think about how bad you have to be if the NY JETE are thinking about releasing you. And @Zappe Hour wants to sign Berrios. Says a lot about his WR scouting ability.

Does that mean it can't be upgraded? They are knocking on the door... Super bowl appearance, afccg over the past two years...

I don't see their line as a strength... Ymmv on that... Would benefit them to improve it, while the window is open... In time big contracts will come up for the offensive skill players, limiting what areas can be upgraded in the near future...
