What did people think was going to happen when BB hired a couple of his losers buddies to implement a new offense with absolutely no credible experience? Unless you were diluting your judgment with meaningless nonsense like IBWT then you KNEW this was going to be a catastrophe. Myself and others called it. Because it was obvious and then it happened. BB completely blew it.
I guess this site will never get enough of the "X's and O's versus Johns and Joes" debate.10-7 with McD as OC the year before with not really a better roster, i would even say the 2022 roster was better, makes me think that talent isn't anything, coaching matters more than i thought to put players in position to succeed
I’d gladly keep Judge as the STC. Patricia’s obese ass can hit the bricks, though. One of the worst personnel decisions BB ever made was trying to ram that square peg through a round hole. Either that, or he let Patricia try to do it. Whichever of the two happened, Fatt needs to go.

It's OK to acknowledge you need large doses of both, along with a lot of luck, to win championships.
I hear you. But I knew. I said as much. I can pull up the quotes if you want?It was what you feared, not what you or anyone else "knew." Subscribing to "In Bill We Distrust" is just as meaningless and nonsensical as blindly buying into IBWT. The fact remains that BB had earned the capital (benefit of a doubt) to do it his way last season. That capital was exhausted on a failed investment, the Krafts have stepped in and a course correction is in process.
I'm a big believer in all-time elite QB continuity. All that other stuff doesn't work as much without it.I'm a big believer in program continuity -- roster core players working the same system with the same coaching staff under same management/ownership over years. That tends to define the stronger franchises.
To be fair on the coaching staff point, has any team been poached as thoroughly as the Pats? It must be hard to run the coach assembly line fast enough to keep up.I hear you. But I knew. I said as much. I can pull up the quotes if you want?
I lost faith in BB's assembly of the coaching staff a very long time ago. I generally trust BB's game planning and sideline coaching, he's one of the best ever there. I mostly don't trust him otherwise, the GM side of things, drafting, and when he lets his ego or personal agenda dictate his decisions (e.g. Malcolm).
The article reads to me that Judge has lost all credibility with the players on the team, and with BB himself. The fact that Belichick phased him out during the season speaks volumes. Yeah, Judge may have been good at ST before, but these players aren’t going to buy in now. He needs to be shown the door, where he can start fresh at ST with a new group of players. Best for everyone.I’d gladly keep Judge as the STC. Patricia’s obese ass can hit the bricks, though. There’s no reason that Josh needed to take 3 guys with him. The only reason that Mick Lombardi would have uprooted his life and move to Vegas to be OC would be that BB didn’t want to offer him the OC title. Belichick needs to realize titles mean things to people. The poaching of the staff is partly on him. Remember, when Romeo Crennel left for Cleveland, he wanted to take Mangini with him to be DC. Belichick kept him by naming him DC. Maybe that experience jaded him (apparently he wasn’t happy with his performance in 2005, even before the Jet poaching situation), but he can’t overreact to one bad situation and cause other bad situations to be created.I'm a big believer in program continuity -- roster core players working the same system with the same coaching staff under same management/ownership over years. Still waiting for more shoes to drop on the what happened part but your comments re going forward are in alignment with what I hope to see.MY THoughts:
- I think that Patricia went to Bill and told him that he believed he could implement facets of the Shanahan offense.
- I think that Patricia took the same approach as Herman Boone took by "simplifying things". But his lack of understanding of the how the parts of the Shanahan offense worked together were huge issues.
- Patricia clearly didn't understand facets of the Shanahan offense. This got exposed by a player or players who had experience in the Shanahan /McVay offense (not sure who outside of Bourne had that experience). I think THIS led to Bourne "being in the dog house".
- Joe Judge failed to "Do HIS job" and then tried to do other coaches' jobs, causing issues. It's awfully strange that he wasn't showing up to meetings unless he was TOLD to stay out of them.
BOB being named OC/QB Coach should be a good thing for Mac. They worked together in that Mac helped BOB learn the Alabama offense. I think that BOB should be able to fix whatever Judge/Patricia broke and that MAC should be able to make an exponential leap in his play, making up for the regression of last year AND getting back on track.
BOB will have a plethora of weapons. Bourne, Parker, Thornton, Stevenson, Henry, Smith, Strong, K. Harris, and Marcus Jones. We don't know if Meyers will be back. We don't know what Ty Montgomery's status is. Tre Nixon, Matt Sokol, and Scotty Washington are likely camp fodder unless they step up big.
BOB was very effective using Gronk and that other guy at TE. While Henry and Smith aren't those two, they are very talented TEs and we should see them utilized better.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a huge jump in the Red Zone either. With Thornton, Bourne, Parker, Stevenson, Henry and Smith, you have a variety of players you can put on the field to create mismatches. Something that Patricia never seemed to accomplish.
Now that more stuff has come out, it is amazing that the team played hard to the end. I need to rethink my position on Trent Brown. @Theonious has a valid point about Troy Brown and you can add Caley to the list of people who deserve the benefit of the doubt after the debacle. All this trash of a season and we still wound up 8-9 lol
Can I now be excused for thinking Super Bowl if we get the coaching staff fixed?
"Distain" is a bit strong, honestly. But really I just told you my problem with BB... the GM side of things, drafting, and when he lets his ego or personal agenda dictate his decisions. To whatever extent any of that has overlapped with or affected Brady, then yes, I have a problem with BB there.A couple things about your BB takes: I think if you're honest about it, your disdain for BB begins (and pretty much continues) re. Brady. Your claims of him motivated by "ego" or through "personal agenda" are colored by that and represent little more than biased conjecture. BB certainly has made mistakes including the Patricia/Judge whopper, but on balance -- including as de facto GM -- he's pretty far into the plus column.
This new information could have all easily been obtained over the course of the last month. It's pretty odd that these reporters saved up all this stuff long after most people decided this whole MP/JG experiment was a failure, and now fire it into the post-season void.
Players and other staff much more willing to talk once they know for sure their bad bosses have been fired. It's pretty odd that these reporters saved up all this stuff long after most people decided this whole MP/JG experiment was a failure, and now fire it into the post-season void.
