Everything every written about Belichick from people who actually are aware of how he operates and have seen it first hand indicates he teaches everyone around him at every opportunity.

And apparently at every opportunity he taught all of his slappy failures that it was more his system that it was Brady...

The entire offense was terrible this season.. including the coaching staff.... so puzzling what the jets see in Caley!

this is why 2022 has been deemed one of BBs worst coaching seasons.. I was reading currans piece on rumors of Judge and Patricia allegedly having a gripe with Jones.. my thoughts were ok... 2 failed head coaches, were brought back in the organization... accepted roles they had no business in... regressed a promising QB and the entire offense..

So I'm trying to Find what leverage they have... if any!..
The Jets are the Jets... Caley might be a decent coach, but he'll probably fail in New York. That team just seems to attract underachievers and incompetence.

I don't follow Alabama closely, but I believe the complaint they have is that O'Brien underutilized their Heisman-caliber QB's skillset.

Ya I saw that too but then I see their 2 losses were 49-52 and 31-32. Sounds like it was more on the DC/defense than the offense.

yeah I mean the rooney rule is a joke, you get some people of color for a formal interview just to choose the one (inhouse) guy you anyway wanted, its disrespectful and waste of time and money to all involved just for NYFL pretend some fairness, they should rather focus to solve the zebra problem which is obvious to anyone but Goodell and his Clownshow in NY

Yep, just like the NYFL pretends to care about player safety, another Big Lie from the suits & skirts at 345 Park Avenue.

Bill O'Brien's offensive schemes took Brian Hoyer and Brock Osweiler to the playoffs in back-to-back-seasons...
Yeah and it was unwatchable putrid offense, it was JJ Watt and the defense that took them.

There's a reason that everyone in Houston and Alabama hates him, he's not good.

The Houston fans hate him for the personnel moves he made, which has no relevance to the discussion of how he would do as an OC. The offense being putrid with Hoyer and Osweiller is just evidence that offenses need at least a mid level QB to succeed, those guys are bottom of the barrel.

Not all the Alabama fans hate him and the biggest knock on him by those fans was that he was running an NFL offense in college and it was too complicated for the players. That shouldn't be an issue with the Patriots as he will be coaching NFL players here.

I'd also read (here, I think) that he can be smug and arrogant and doesn't have good, easy relationships with players. Not sure how much there is to it.

Please tell us that you're not going to start defending Judge Joey's catastrophic failure of a tenure as the Exit-16Ws' HC... are you?
No, it was really bad. Doesn't change the fact that you're screwed already by management when you don't have control.

That being said, I doubt any other teams wanted to hire New England's special team's coach

Joe Lombardi, now that he has scape goa..I mean has been fired - is that someone to consider?

BOB will be a popular hire because he's not Matt Patricia but he's another Bill bobo who Alabama fans can't wait to run out of town, hasn't proven anything offensively with a mediocre quarterback and it's sticking to an offensive scheme that has proven nothing without Brady.

I would rather a clean break and get someone from the Shanahan/McVay tree who you see plug and play average quarterbacks and win games and look competent but we know that will never happen, the offensive coordinator search is just really Bill hiring another one of his buddies but at least this one is actually a proven offensive coach.

In fairness to O'Brien, Saban requires his coordinators to run his system and not their own and O'Brien had to be taught the system (a lot by Mac Jones). So this may not be a system O'Brien is comfortable running.

If he is hired by the Pats, he will be able to run his system, not Bama's

Well with Mac Jones literally BEGGING to be coached harder, I think he'd welcome O'Brien with open arms.

"Josh is a great coach," Jones told WEEI's Merloni, Fauria, and Mego on Tuesday. "Pushed me really hard and coached me hard. We worked together, and we were with each other every day and working hard." Rest of article here.

I think he really felt the difference between Josh McDaniels 150+ IQ vs Matt Patricia's 10 IQ. So upgrading to a coach who can give him useful, intelligent tips on offense should have him jumping with joy.

Most of the top scoring offenses in Patriot history were under BOB, except for 2007.

Sort of my point actually. He looked great under Brady years in NE... But so did Charlie Weiss and Josh McDaniels.

In Houston they never had a top 10 offense in points scored or yards gained despite having considerable talent on roster including one of the best QBs (Watson) and WRs (Hopkins). Not saying he is a bum, but would love someone outside the BB "family tree" for this hire. Bring in new ideas and a new offensive system and make it our own.

It does seem odd to me that BB will only hire people in his inner-circle. Its like he's become paranoid of any outside thought.

True, but….is he wrong on this one? I mean, look at Daniel Jones this year vs. Mac Jones this year.

Last year everyone though DJ was washed up and a bust, while Mac was a promising rookie find.

This year DJ is playing well and a legit starter while Mac (in some circles) is about to be run out of town.

Common denominator:

Joe Judge (plus the addition of Matt Patricia and look at the Lions now).

Coaching does matter.

No he isn't, at all... I just don't like hearing it from those people (especially Sewer Yorkers) who don't have the best interests in this team first & foremost.

How does one truly judge who would ve or has been a good OC. There are probably creative competent OCs out there, whose teams have been bad because they can not execute. On the other hand there are probably average OCs who benefitted from great talent.
In the end its probably about experience and who your mentor was..
Since Mac Jones is not TB12, i would lean toward someone from the Kyle Shanahan tree, who is young (eg Mike Lefleur)

If Belichick thinks O'Brien is the best man for the job, he should bite the bullet and give BOB the autonomy and allow him to hire his staff.
The deal would include a 2-year commitment, as is usually the case for BOB. Then BOB can be extended, promote, or simply go elsewhere (presumably looking for a HC job).
=============
Yes, BOB should be able to pick the entire staff of coaches on Offense, presumably with the condition that Patricia and Judge aren't filling any of those jobs.

Your right, I just heard Brian Flores is one of the first being interviewed.
Patricia will likely be "interviewed" for various coaching roles.

The Jets are the Jets... Caley might be a decent coach, but he'll probably fail in New York. That team just seems to attract underachievers and incompetence.
sounds good

The jets were close to us this year. trade QB's and they would likely have been in the playoffs.

In any case, the personnel (other than QB) is close. To argue that the patriots have better coaching of Offense, or even ST's seems silly. Obviously, we have better coaching on Defense.
