His brother has been whining for years publicly on getting him in
Thing is, if you let Terrell Davis in (who should never have gotten a sniff at the HoF, played *less* than Gayle Sayers, and about 1/10th of his impact on the game), then Sterling Sharpe should be a lock hall of famer. He was beating out Jerry Rice in Rice's Prime in numbers with Don ****ing Majikowski throwing to him.

Exactly. Once Davis got in; they opened the door for Sharpe by saying an extremely high but short peak could push you in

Slater will get in... if they start letting special teamers in more. If they start letting guys like Hester in, he'll get in as well.

Matty Slater isn’t worthy to unfasten the laces on Devin Hester’s cleats… The only way he enters the HOF is via a family discount through his dad.

That precedent had already been set, long ago.

That's crazy talk. Slater absolutely is the first picks for your coverage unit.

And I'd argue a return unit with 11 Slaters would destroy a unit trying to cover with 11 Hesters but a coverage unit with 11 Slaters would also destroy a return unit with 11 Hesters.

???

He's deservedly made 10 Pro Bowls & 2x First-team All-Pro

OK now if I had 11 Tom Bradys dating 11 Livvy Dunnes then...

Now that is a little harsh. Devin Hester was fast and ran back kicks. Kind of what they call a one trick pony. I remember him but the only memorable play for me was the Super Bowl and his team ended up losing.

Devin was good; was he any better than Desmond? And Desmond won the ring. We know that better than anyone.

I think Warner is the same way. Was elite for a couple years early in his career in St Louis then was pretty bad for a few years there and a year in NY. He was a good QB for the Cardinals for a few years but in no way do I think he had a HOF career.

Hester's impact on the game is 100x Slater's.
Hester was perhaps the best return man, certainly the most successful.

What he did being flashier and more exciting than what Slater does does not make it more important or impactful, technically speaking.

Field position and the intangibles that Slater brings are important but Hester continually added points to the scoreboard while affecting field position as well. I like Slater and he will have a red jacket here one day but I don’t think he should be a hall of famer.

It's really, really tough to ignore ten (probably 11) Pro Bowls, to go along with being an awesome teammate.

Of course, in our case, there's all kinds of precedent. How is Houston Antwine not in Canton? Look at the uniform.

Or Bruce Armstrong.

Hester was a weapon. He put points on the board all by himself.

But Steve Tasker definitely belongs in Canton.

And Mosi Tatupu definitely belongs in the Patriots' Hall of Fame.

It’s the same thing with Boselli. He was great, but over a 5/6 year period. He didn’t even have 4 or 5 other years at a “pretty good” level. How do you square that with guys who were great for a decade or more?

I think we are getting to a point where 3 First Team All Pros is sort of becoming the litmus test for any non special teamer that doesn't have some baggage attached even if you have a short career.
