He played safety/corner at Philly, when we signed him we were deep at corner.. the jouan Williams bust has really hurt us in the secondary.. talk about a 6"3 ,rangy, fast corner.. he just could never put it together at the NFL level.Mills is an avg CB. Maybe moving him to safety would help.
It's telling he never sees the field and myles away Bryant does!...He's going to need to play better than he has recently.
I honestly thought they signed him to be a safety. Surprised he's still at CB. Moving him to safety to replace McCourty might be wise in 2023. Mills/Dugger at safety with Jack and Marcus Jones being two of your starting corners, probably need to find another bigger starting CB though.Mills is an avg CB. I was checking on one of the playoff scenario sites and it looks like the likeliest spots we will pick is at either 12 or 14. We can get to 10, but a lot of crazy stuff will have to happen besides us losing the next two. If by some miracle we make the playoffs, we would pick at the 20+ range. That's a bit harsh. The more games the better is generally how I feel about it too. However, there's something to be said for improving their draft position at this point. If everything goes wrong (meaning they lose the next two) then I believe they could end up drafting as low as 10th. DeVonta Smith went 10th overall in 2021 and Garrett Wilson went 10th overall last year... I won't mind a shot at players of that caliber. Which would you rather have?... 9-8 and another wild card beatdown @BUF or 7-10 and DeVanta Smith?
He was initially signed to play safety, however with Gilmore being traded, injuries and Williams being a draft bust he played corner opposite Jackson last season.. he's actually an above average corner.. he's a better zone corner than Man.. he has excellent ball skills.. he played alot of safety and corner at eagles.. that's my hope as well that he moves to safety where he can better utilize his skill set.. he's a little bigger than McCourty at 6'"1I honestly thought they signed him to be a safety. I'm not against moving him to safety but other than health he has been pretty darn good at corner for us. Depending on if DMac retires and if we resign Jon Jones and the devolvement of the rookie Joneses anything could be on the table for Mills next year.He was initially signed to play safety, however with Gilmore being traded, injuries and Williams being a draft bust he played corner opposite Jackson last season.. he's actually an above average corner.. he's a better zone corner than Man.. he has excellent ball skills.. he played alot of safety and corner at eagles.. that's my hope as well that he moves to safety where he can better utilize his skill set.. he's a little bigger than McCourty at 6'"1
Absolutely, all of that is the table for consideration. I personally feel Jon Jones should be resigned.. I can see him back on a team friendly deal.. I don't think he's a pure number 1.. but he's always been steady eddy at corner.. Jack Jones... he has the footwork, make up speed, range, mobility, attitude and mettle at what it takes to be a lock down corner.. he plays bigger than 5"11.. that goes back to my Dream of trading for a pat surtain..I'm not against moving him to safety but other than health he has been pretty darn good at corner for us. If we get a player opposite Wise, and Uche and Judon play together more, it might not matter that we don't have a #1. All of these CBs can stay with WRs to make any QB think twice about throwing when they're under pressure.Absolutely, all of that is the table for consideration. Imagine this.. if we're got a pure number #1 @ WR and the same at corner how much better would we be!!!!
I doubt that's going to be priority but I think our pass rush should still be good enough for what suggesting. If we get a player opposite Wise, and Uche and Judon play together more, it might not matter that we don't have a #1. Yes, that's very true.If we get a player opposite Wise, and Uche and Judon play together more, it might not matter that we don't have a #1. All of these CBs can stay with WRs to make any QB think twice about throwing when they're under pressure.
Absolutely, we get great pressure off 4 sometimes 3.. I think BB and groh will definitely look to add another pass rusher and MLB.. I'm just saying the lockdown corner is something that has always been part of the DNA of a BB defense in NE.If we get a player opposite Wise, and Uche and Judon play together more, it might not matter that we don't have a #1. Team friendly meaning he's not a number 1 corner, you think teams are going to pony up number 1 money for him?.. he's a good player in our system.. he's on the opposite side of 30.. had he been 25,26 then maybe.. so I see the team offering him a 3yr/ 21-24 million deal.. that's 7,8 million a year for a #2 or 3 corner ... that's a deal! Why would he sign a team friendly deal?
Well, team friendly doesn't really mean if he's a number 1 corner or not, team friendly means he's willing to take less than market value to stay here.Team friendly meaning he's not a number 1 corner, you think teams are going to pony up number 1 money for him?.. he's a good player in our system.. he's on the opposite side of 30.. had he been 25,26 then maybe.. so I see the team offering him a 3yr/ 21-24 million deal.. that's 7,8 million a year for a #2 or 3 corner ... that's a deal!
I see your point.. I say team friendly becuase he's undrafted product of the system.. the patriots love giving guys those 3 yr deals.. not saying he has to take it... they even did it with moss! glad he didn't take the Collins and Butler approach about his contract..it was reported those guys turned down more money from the patriots and ended up with less from other teams.. yeah the cap is going up that's true.. however it all depends how the GMs view him.. I believe LA felt they got burned with JC Jackson..Well, team friendly doesn't really mean if he's a number 1 corner or not, team friendly means he's willing to take less than market value to stay here.
He'll be 30 next season, so I think you're right that the deal will be in the 3 year range. All it will take though is one team who needs CB help to make him an offer that exceeds "team friendly". Salary cap is going up. I think he'll get more than $7-$8m a year on the open market.
I doubt that's going to be priority but I think our pass rush should still be good enough for what suggesting.
I mean between Uche, Judon, Wise and Barmore I think we need to be focusing on other things this off-season.
Its been 6 games (Jests) since NE scored first in a gameDont waste this defense. Play Zappe
