Curran Believes Jones is 'Making an Enemy' Out of Belichick

Chicago, remember.

Trent Brown does not respect Jones. He wants a change next season.

Every week there are WRs and TEs open that dont see the ball because the checkdown 5 yard gain guy gets it. Patricia is not telling Jones to not throw TDs and to throw INTs.
To be fair he hasn’t thrown many INT since they stopped asking him to throw more than 10 yards consistently

So the most compelling argument for Zappe that I’m seeing is “he’s not Mac”

Great so if we want to change our QB let’s trade up into the top 10 in April where we will have lots to choose from of QBs who are much better than Zappe right now and in the future. Shouldn’t be too hard to find. Or get a vet.

In the final seconds of any NFL game the QB gets the ball everytime.

Ive never seen a RB get the ball with 3 seconds left and 50 yards to go.
Why do you think it look like they give up everytime they are in 3rd and long and we see throws short of the sticks ?

Because the coaching staff doesn’t think Mac can make a play and want to avoid turnovers so they call safe plays and hope the receiver can make a guy miss to get the 1st

The most compelling argument for Zappe is that he played with same coaches, same receivers, same OL, same RB as Mac with much less preparation much less experience and overall he looked better.

I would add two things, how long will we be using the term rebuild? It’s about to be year 4. At some point we have to acknowledge that it’s been a slow one.

Also I don’t think all fans want is a top tier contender, they want to be building something. Since Brady left and they started “rebuilding”, they spent hundreds of millions in FA, will be under .500 2/3 years (most likely), have a lackluster coaching staff, a regressing offense and 2nd year qb with no answer on his future. They haven’t really solved anything over this period
Rebuilds take time. They aren't 2 year affairs. The 49'ers committed to a hard rebuild after Harbaugh. They had 4 years post him where they never won more than 6 games and never made the playoffs (something that you can't say about our last 3 years). Then they had 3 out of 4 years where they were double digit win playoff teams

The problem with the Pats rebuild is they'll never lose enough like the 9'ers did to get high enough draft picks which slows down the rebuild process immensely...unless you hit home runs in the overall draft (and that's drafting well at all positions, including WR which the Pats still haven't shown they're capable of).

All we had to do was to draft Deebo and we would be in a much better situation.

How can we be sure that Zappe isnt a whole better than just a backup?

All this team needs is steady QB play. Converting 3rd downs and hitting the key play here or there that winds up being the reason for the win.
Man...I didn't look at the thread. You're on a roll this morning.

If they get blown out on Saturday - which is entirely possible - and most of their drives stall, it's going to be an ugly situation, and as I've also posted, another bad performance could very well see a change come before the year is out, which would certainly set up an interesting offseason.

But we're all just going to have to be patient because they're going to let it play out, and "it is what it is." They don't care what we think

Spot on the money.

Look at the drama caused when Jones was out and the NE offense started to flow with Zappe. Maybe playing Zappe is no change or worse, but at least you know what you have at QB for 2023. Right now I'm drafting a QB high as possible in the next draft. BOB coming here and fixing Jones is hilarious. BOB has a temper like a stick of dynamite and and will go off on Jones.
Yeah I agree , don’t want to see bob here esp not as a future HC candidate which he could after being an hired as an OC next year

They handed it off and crossed their fingers maybe he could break into the second-level and maybe gain a block like he's done previously. It unfortunately didn't happen and obviously, it didn't end well.

They need tackle help far more. You can't put any QB behind this offensive line and expect to be consistently good. I think you've forgotten that Zappe was strip-sacked at least twice in the couple of games he played in. Gotta be able to protect whoever is back there, and they need to get quality depth in there ASAP.

We see routes short of the sticks. Which is the bigger problem.

Well it’s been 3 years, with what we thought was the best run organization in sports…again it’s one thing to be building, they have been lackluster. There’s no definitive timeline to follow, but they’ve shown 0 progression, and for an organization that fans held to the highest of standards, that’s simply not good enough

Even I have to admit that seat is getting a little warm. If I'm Kraft I'm in a tough spot I don't want to be making demands of someone who's been such a good EE but clearly it's getting close. I think I'd just let him decide on his own how to handle the Offensive Staff and then let that decision dictate how hot the seat gets after that.
I think you have to give him this offseason to correct it. With the amount of money they’ll have available to spend, I’d give him one more chance. If the team is mediocre in 2023 and still can’t win a playoff game, I’d have the hard conversation about him retiring, and let him go at that point if he doesn’t want to. It will be ugly, but you have to rip that Band-Aid off at some point.

True. I honestly was kinda hoping that in the 2020 season we just lost most of our first half games and Bill would see the writing on the wall and play for next year. We were 2-5 at one point. Then we got a meaningless win vs a 2 win Jets team and then the weather helped them beat Baltimore, which basically got them back near .500 and gave them enough hope to beat the Jets again and 2 more bottomfeeders to get 7 wins and appear middle of the pack which set us halfway through the draft despite losing 3 straight.

That's true. I mean, who do they build around on Offense? Even on D there's no cornerstone...maybe Judon but he's north of 30 and has faded down the stretch again. Maybe the Joneses...but they're going to take time to develop further.

They've shown progress from 2020. There just hasn't been a noticeable jump from 2021 to 2022. But I think most people who followed the off season realize that this year we did in fact lose more talent than we brought on and lost our OC.

I wasn't particularly high on our prospects this season to begin with, but I didn't expect to have a stellar defense that would have been able to carry us and have a completely incompetent offense that kneecapped us that got us right to the edge of playoffs again.

They've also got to go after a prominent playmaker this offseason. Unfortunately, that trend is becoming a big one, and it's no longer a lucky few teams who seem to have one. We're already seeing it just within the division, and most of the teams who did have success this year had a top guy who made defenses pay attention, which made a lot of the mid-tier guys they have also look better. We've got a good group, but teams are definitely not being forced to really double anybody these days.

If you're not going to have an elite QB on your roster, you need to at least put a ton of talent around him. You can get by without it when you have Brady. When you have guys like Kirk Cousins or Jalen Hurts - or Mac - you've got to have that type of player to contend now.
