I think a few other games need to fall the Pats way, too, with them going 2-1 and Miami going 1-2, in order for the Pats to get in.

But yeah, the gist is that if the Pats finish 3-0, they're in. If they finish 2-1, they need some results to fall their way with the Dolphins, Jets, and Chargers. If they take the route of going 2-1, that one loss cannot be to Miami.

It’s not too complicated, the top two wild card spots will most likely go to whichever team doesn’t win the AFC North between Baltimore/Cincinnati and to the Chargers. So it comes down to the last slot, where the Pats would be jockeying with Miami. If they go 2-1 with a win against Miami and Miami goes 1-2, they’re tied - there’s no head to head tiebreaker because they both beat each other once so it then goes to the other tiebreakers. They’re both 2-2 in division right now so NE winning head to head in this game gives them the advantage. If NE beats MIA and BUF then they win the tiebreaker with a better divisional record. If they beat CIN and MIA but lose to BUF, and MIA loses to NE and NYJ but beats GB, NE still wins the tiebreaker. However, if MIA loses to GB and NE but beats NYJ then you fall down a rabbit hole of deeper tiebreakers.

I mean a couple of things here: any chance the Patriots had of making the playoffs ended on Thanksgiving when they lost to Minnesota.

Secondly does anybody honestly want this team to even make the playoffs?

Let's be honest the Patriots have turned into one of those teams that all of us have made fun of over the past 20 years that's completely undisciplined and makes ridiculous mistakes.

Another thing overshadowed was our offensive series right before the Raiders game tying TD drive, after our defense had made yet another stop when up 7. Absolutely cowardly and pathetic. Literally one first down ends the game and they just sat on the ball .

Bill is definitely an all time great coach. if he stopped coaching today - is he the greatest of all time right now? There are arguments for and against it and that’s one argument against it. I would think the greatest has won the most.

What this team does the best is run the ball, and its best player is Rhamondre Stevenson. It’s 2nd and goal in the shadow of the goal line, and the Pats run an empty set with the QB in the shotgun. It defies common sense. It defies good coaching. It results in a comedy of errors and meltdowns that results in a FG rather than a TD.

I know less about football than many posters here and, definitely, less than coaches that have made this their life’s work. My standard is whether it’s game strategy or personnel decisions is just whether I can make some sense of what they’re trying to do. Way too often these days I can’t. It’s been that way for awhile, and it’s getting worse not better.

2 - Mac could have, and should have, grabbed Jones leg and hung on with all his might.
3 - we would have lost in OT anyway, and everyone knew it.
4 - even if we hung on to beat a horrible Raiders team, we're clearly loosing the final 3 games and missing the playoffs

Bad call for sure, but even if they called it right....Raiders still could have scored on subsequent play (it would have been 3rd and 10) to tie it up.
