He could still do that - I'd guess "dramatic changes" means changing the offensive scheme with a new OC, whereas changing the person calling the plays within the same scheme who already works on the staff is not "dramatic."

I'd guess if it was anyone to take over it would probably be Bill. Judge already lost out to Patricia, and Nick Caley seems bound to leave anyway. So who else?

Have you read or heard anything about that?

Here's a question with Nick Caley being a McDaniels disciple why give Fat Matt the OC's job in the first place?? What was BB thinking??

Perhaps Bill took a long look at him and found him wanting, at this particular time at least...

Good for Nick Caley I wouldn't blame him if he leaves.

To go where? LV maybe I suppose... But it's not like his position group is setting the world on fire either...

Never said that but it's quite obvious BB is to blame for this crap show on Offense.
So you want BB to fire Patricia for something that was BBs fault?

Yeah, obviously with Josh leaving and taking Mick Lombardi and others with him, Bill was left with only so many in-house options. Perhaps he didn’t love what was out there and felt the best choice was Bill O’Brien who would be available in 2023, so ran this “experiment” for a year to both see how it went and also to have a permanent backup guy. If your next OC leaves after a year or two years, you have someone who understands the basics of the offense and hopefully picked up a few things from the OC and can help impart that to whoever takes over. Basically, Patricia creates a layer of basic offensive knowledge security against future turnover, and is someone who can do the job in a pinch if need be... One train of thought I can sort of see.

If he was looking for a bit of familiarity/continuity, then he should've hired Chad O'Shea as OC, extended Bricillo as OL coach, and blocked Bo Hardegree from becoming McD's QB coach... Hardegree's loss in particular I feel has been an under-reported factor in Corky's overall suckiness this season...

Asked Evan what he thought our biggest issues are offensively, he gave a pretty good and detailed answer:

Q: Hi Evan, what is the biggest issue with the Patriots offense: Mac, Matt Patricia, the offensive line, or the rest of the personnel? - @ashley1992_
Hey Ashley, good question. Let's rank them: one, the offensive line. You can have a rudimentary scheme and an inexperienced play-caller, but if you can block, that'll cover up a lot. Two, Patricia, because his play sequencing and non-imaginative schemes hurt this team. Three, Mac, mainly his inability to play under pressure causing the issues with the offensive line to be exacerbated. That leaves the other personnel in the last spot. They still have enough to be a respectable offense at the skill position if 1-3 were in order. Are they great there? No. But they need to get the most out of their receiver group.

That's my order too:
1 - offensive OL (under Phatt Matt),
2 - Phatt Matt himself,
3 - Corky (with PM's play calls), and
4 - (as Sicilian correctly put it) Everybody besides Rham Tough.

Murry isn't that good of a QB but scrambling QB's vs the Pats system usually has negative results for NE.

They did beat Murray back in 2020, but that was at home and that same defense also kept Lamar in check in the win against Baltimore, so that may have just been a better defense against mobile QB's in general. Either way, those are the only recent examples of success against mobile QB's (that are actually good, not the Zack Wilson's of the world) I could find, so the trend is definitely not in our favor.

Yeah, I mean, either way you slice it, the two biggest problems were things directly under Patricia's umbrella (by title anyway, in regards to OL), so if there's one move that has the biggest chance to shake things up positively, it's moving on from him. Let him advise somewhere if you don't want to embarrass the guy, but they need fresh offensive ideas and they HAVE to get the OL right, be that through new players, a new coach, or preferably both. That won't solve all the problems on offense, but it will at least let you properly evaluate which skill position players are actually good, and whether Mac can be the guy.

Resign meyers , get AT LEAST TWO IF NOT THREE NEW tackles, and get a coordinator who has a clue. Rhamondre / strong / Meyers/ bourne/ thornton / marcus / henry /parker has potential

Parcells once said during the 1994 season that the Center position was holding his offense hostage; same is true now regarding Both OT positions.

Somebody should remind BB and Sons that CB Jack Jones is a Rookie who should get help on Elite WR's. The kid ain't Great yet stop leaving him on a Island like Revis in his prime.

Can't double-cover everyone.

Some here have been decrying the lack of At Least one more boundary CB for months (and months) now...

I certainly agree that Belichick bears the blame. The question is what are the consequences. Fire him?

I am unsure if that is the best option at this time.

Agreed... I'd wait until Black Monday to fire him.

Going on 4th/13 instead of attempting a 48-yard FG?

Letting Chris Harper return punts in Denver?

Not using Malcolm?
1. Letting Brady walk (especially for nothing which also has to fall on the Krafts)
2. Malcolm
3. Patricia

Mine are global impact decisions... Malcolm was a singular decision but it trashed an entire season. The other two are long term ramification decisions. Your micro examples are good ones and there are many more of those.

My apologies to the Mods. Just answering a question here. I'll refrain from further comment.

The Patriots are catching the Cardinals offense at the wrong time... coming off a bye where they've been able to get much healthier. Probably getting Moore and Dortch back to go along with Hopkins and Brown... their pass game is going to give our defense fits. Fortunately their defense is terrible so the Patriots should have an opportunity to score into the high 20's.

Fortunately for their terrible defense NE has arguable the worst offense in all of football.
