Game Day Thread Official Post Game Thread- Pats beat the Jets

THIS IS OUR LIVE GAME DAY THREAD:

This is where we gather to follow things on Game Day. Obviously, emotions tend to be high so if anyone gets a little crazy, the use of the “Mute” button is encouraged on anyone who may be annoying to you to control your experience and to allow the moderators to also enjoy the game.

At the same time, please take a deep breath before over-reacting for the sake of making this a pleasant experience for everyone.

Until we can contain Diggs we will struggle against Buffalo, allen/Diggs combination is just too good.. Allen break downs the toughest defenses.. you'd think BB could devise a game plan to deal with Allen. He's a dynamic player
I believe having mack Wilson as a spy definitely helps a bit against Allen if it comes to that .

There were plenty of times he had time. He either needs to process information quicker, or the play design is terrible. Too many plays show guys running in the same area.

Each of Wynn, Ferentz, Cajuste, Strange and sometimes Brown were overmatched yesterday, often more than one on each play. If one guy gets beat you can often step up or throw the ball away, but when two or even three are getting beat at the same time it is way harder.

Over 61 sacks (2009-2011), Brady's average time to sack was 3.1 seconds, so Mac is getting sacked significantly more quickly than that, suggesting that overall he is not getting sacked because he's holding onto the ball too long. Obviously any one play can be different - let's see what the all-22 reveals.

I think he needs to work at learning how to throw it away at the feet of a receiver or runningback, too.
Interesting point. This should set internal clock for receivers to turn around at 2.5 - 3 to look at the ball rather than still figuring out the route .

Yes, and or McMillan, Dugger or peppers, somehow ,some way we have to find a way to contain allen... I honestly feel it's best if you play with 7,8 DBs take away the deep passing game.. bills like to score quickly!

The Bills really don’t rush their RBs much. Singletary rushes 11 times a game. More DBs seems to be a necessity against that offense.

Yes, and the Jets similarly to our defense is what gives finesse teams like Buffalo problems.. if we could somehow muster up anything on offense on them would be a bug boost. Bills don't run it but Singletary always seems to hit those 15, 20 yard runs..

At this point the defense is way more fun to watch.

The offense should try and punt as soon as possible so we can watch the good players :haha:
My biggest concern is that the running game is so inconsistent, even with two solid/really good backs. A great defense and a smashmouth running game are what I love, and I'm surprised that this year's running attack is not stepping up. But like everyone has been saying, it is all about the O-line executing and so far, they just haven't been able to click.
Football was starting to get boring with so many TD's and defenses unable to get off the field. It's great to see your team scoring a TD as a big achievement. I think fans have been taking them for granted. With the Patriots defense improving each week, I'm excited to see them destroy some of these supposedly good offenses as we march towards the playoffs. Barmore will be back for the last couple games and the weather will continue to get colder, so this already great defense will get even better as time goes on into January (and beyond?).

Allow me to predict how this will go.

The Pats will down by 2 scores relatively early in one of the remaining games on this schedule. Maybe a 14 point deficit because the NE offense stalls out drive after drive. Belichick will have a choice to stick with Jones and lose for sure or make a change at QB. I hope that Zappe gets another chance.

I highly doubt that will happen. Unless Mac Jones looks horrible and throws multiple picks. Zappe turned back into a pumpkin against the bears. He would've been destroyed by this jets DL.

I'm still laughing about the zappe posters trying to say a game where the QB only has 4 incompletions is somehow a bad game. If that game was bad. What was josh Allen against the jets?

Still pining over zappes two wins over garbage defensive teams. Ignoring the losses to the bears/green bay(which doesn't look as impressive in hindsight)

if twitter is any indication, boston sports radio must be insufferable today

All these casuals saying Mac needs to throw it away in 2 seconds from the pocket and not get intentional grounding

Getting rid of Karras and Mason and drafting Strange in the FIRST ROUND is looking worse by the day.
I brought up Karras in the game day thread because I'm a huge fan of his. However, Cincy paid him $18 million. I do miss his versatility though.

Mason... looks like a former shell of himself.

I don't hate Strange's play from this game. You can't expect a first year player to consistently hold their own and compensate for a massive weakness directly next to them against arguably the best interior DL in the league. To be critical though he did miss his help assignments on more than one occasion. But in his defense you're starting every snap thinking "oh crap I might be 1 on 1 with Q. Williams or maybe I'm not and I need to help someone." Andrews going down was really bad. Wynn going down made matters even worse.

Listen, Mac had around 250 yds passing. That's the good part. IMO the bad was his pocket decisions weren't great. On a couple of sacks he if he had been able to drop and throw in time he would have avoided about half the sacks. But he was probably trying to avoid the bad play and got too cautious. He was also dealing with 2 OL go out DURING the game and a 3rd one playing hobbled.

Offense isn't that far awayl

Taped the game, Tomorrow I will look it over and break down the OL play
.
On the some of the sacks he was consumed/taken down near-instantaneously with the snap. (The first play of the game comes to mind). I imagine those are on the oline and playcalling. And the Jet's D-line playing as good as advertised. That team has a winning record despite their offense.

That's not a lot of time to "throw it away" guys were beat instantly

3 seconds is not a lot...he should roll out and buy more time when he is aware of that kind of pressure. Then he might have more time to make a completion or throw the ball away. The issue is he is not anticipating the pressure and then not moving to avoid the sack quickly enough.

Mac's probably figuring out he's in trouble around 1.75-2.25secs in and goes into panic/survival mode. I wonder if his being still injured is making him brace himself versus letting it rip knowing he's going to get blasted.

Dunno? On a lot of those sacks, it seemed like he got swallowed up and didn't have anywhere to roll out to.

There just wasn't anywhere to go, imho. Even the 1 play where I originally thought he could've stepped up, it would've bought him very little extra time with yet another guy closing in to that space. Man, that 1st sack (1st play) was ~2.25s, and it wasn't even a second until he saw he was in trouble. That's way too early for Hershey squirts.
