Game Day Thread Official Post Game Thread- Pats beat the Jets

THIS IS OUR LIVE GAME DAY THREAD:

This is where we gather to follow things on Game Day. Obviously, emotions tend to be high so if anyone gets a little crazy, the use of the “Mute” button is encouraged on anyone who may be annoying to you to control your experience and to allow the moderators to also enjoy the game.

At the same time, please take a deep breath before over-reacting for the sake of making this a pleasant experience for everyone.

Your post, that I responded to, mentioned nothing about things reported after the game. Yes. we're getting different information now. Both situations can be true. That he missed time and that he'd been sick. And they don't have to be related.

He didn't start, but still played 68% of the snaps.
In my post, I said that I did not see why Brown was replaced by Wynn. Somehow you concluded that I had not watched the game. We still don't know what happened. Have a nice day your job is done here.

Brown was super-sick and didn't practice a couple of times during the week.

I love this freakin' defense!!!
What a win!!
3 straight wins and climbing in the playoff picture. Sign me up for an exciting rest of the season. Go Pats!!
At this point the defense is way more fun to watch.

The offense should try and punt as soon as possible so we can watch the good players :haha:

For all the complaints about Patricia as OC, why is he not getting more hate for the OL, since he is also the OL coach.

At this point it seems like Patricia the OL-Coach is screwing Patricia the the OC.:D

To be fair there's been some injuries and the fact the Pats have played 2 of the better DLs/defenses in the league the last 3 games.

We'll see if it was just matchup issues or what because Vikings don't boast a defense like the jest and dolts do. those are 2 top 5-10 defenses this year. Vikings defense is bottom-5 in yards allowed and bottom-12 in points allowed. 2nd worst pass defense and 18th in rush defense

Hell dolts defense have held the Eagles and Chiefs to 17 points this year and the jest just held the bildos to 17 points. I think we need to just see how it goes going up lesser defenses, kind of like how it went against the Browns.

I think this season has gone as we expected. The consensus was that they'd have a good defense with an offense that will improve. The only issue is that the offense hasn't improved as much as we expected.
The offense hasn't improved? That's an understatement. It's gone BACKWARDS!!

21.3 ppg in 2022 vs 27.2 ppg in 2021. And much of our scoring this year has been bolstered by defensive or special teams scores. It's pretty awful when you only score 3 points on offense to 'win' the game.

Matt Patricia is a DISGRACE as an offensive play caller. Joe Judge seems to have RUINED Mac Jones! BB has managed to sabotage the offense by going 'CHEAP' on coach salaries and taking on other teams castoff failures.

Marcus Jones has 2-3 yards on him (block in the back when the returner is clear of every player on the kicking team lol would be such a weak penalty)

Wilson comes in from the side (football zebras explanation: Taking a look at the approach and the follow-through, we can see that contact initiated from the side. The reason the foul exists is that a blocker who has been beaten cannot just throw a desperation push in the back. The rule states that a simultaneous push to the side and the back is a foul. In this case — and we are using the still frames to illustrate the point of contact, but review the video in full as well — the contact is initiated from the side, then the hand touches the back after the block has been delivered. In real time, officials will see this is delivered to the side, and not a blocker that has been passed and reaches for the side in addition to the illegal block in the back.)

The jest player had ran out of bounds voluntarily for 15 yards before coming back in which was the only reason he got close to Jones, which is a penalty

So just consider it off-setting penalties, TD stands or go head and call block in the back, Pats kick the FG and win. Doesn't change the result.

Outgained them by 200 yards. Averaged 5.0 yards a play against them. Other teams with "elite offenses" against the jets defense
Ravens 5.2
Bengals 5.0
Bills 5.2

Lack of points just came from OL losing their matchups at crucial spots and maybe a few bad playcalls but there definitely was a TD taken off the board on the drive where Smith was clear to run down the sideline and fumbled it and then a bad spot on 3rd down on a Bourne catch that would have made it 1st and goal

Thought Harris maybe should have gotten a few more rushes but hard to take reps from Stevenson when he does stuff that he does breaking like 4 tackles on a 3rd and 16 to get a 1st and then breaks another two tackles on a 1st & 20 to get near the 1st down.

If the gameplan against the Vikings doesn't call for Harris & Stevenson to get about 15-20 touches each that's a failure by Patricia

Look what Tony Pollard just did against them

Better run the ball 30 plus times. LFG

This is not a good game to cherry pick stats to show any sort of offensive efficiency against the Jets defense. The fact of the matter is that we could not make the plays that we needed to make. Football is about making the play that the current moment requires. You could have 360 yards on 36 three and outs and 0 points to show for it or 20 points on 220 yards like we used to when Brady was young.

A few notes:
  • This defense is the real deal. I don't expect to see what we have seen the last three games the rest of the way because they faced some horrible QBs, but they should be able to give Cousins fits on Thursday since he wilts under pressure and slow down some of the offenses they will be facing down the stretch.
  • Zach Wilson had 77 yards passing and 34 of them came from one play where Wilson grossly underthrew the ball and Mims was blanketed coverage, but because the ball was underthrown, Mims was in position to stop and come back for the ball. Wilson had 43 yards for the rest of the game.
  • About Zach Wilson, he is uncoachable. I used to think that Saleh and the Jets were ruining him, but I am beginning to think that QB whisperers like Andy Reid couldn't get through to this kid. You can tell from his post game press conference that this kid is an immature and entitled douche. There have been a lot of rumors that he just doesn't care or puts in the work and thinks he can become a star just on his god-given talent. It shows on the field.
  • Penalties are still a major issue. I stated in this thread that Mac Jones averaged 14 yards a pass on first down yet did not convert a single first down passing and he completed 100% of his passes on first down. That means most of the times he passed on first down, the Pats were in first and 15 or longer. You are not going to convert a lot of first downs if you are constantly in first or second and 15 or more.
  • This goes to another issue. Predictability. The Pats usually ran on first down unless they were first and 15 or or more. There were times that you could tell the Jets defenders knew exactly what the Pats were doing. I remember the one sack where Jones ran play action and the Jets blitzed six defenders and not a single defender bit on the play action and didn't even slow down their rush. By the time Jones turned around from dropping back, two or three defenders were almost on him.
  • What is the deal with Patricia running one offense inside the 20s and then changing up the offense when they get close to the red zone? Jones was actually effective mid-field running the offense actually lining up over center and running a quick pass offense. Once they get around the 30, they right back to shotgun and ultra predictable.
Love seeing sensible facts! I have a question if you could help me to understand.. everyone on offense is statistically worse this season. It gets tiring seeing how much Mac gets beat up.. it is Mac's fault a new offensive scheme was installed? Inexperienced coaches given the duty to ascend a young qb? I'd like your expert opinion. Thanks!

More importantly the player had already stepped out of bounds before this play making him ineligible

Running out of bounds is a penalty but does not make the player ineligible to tackle someone.

Stepping out of bounds does make the player ineligible to be the first player to touch the ball. It has nothing to do with that player's ability to tackle someone.

Here's my question: say both players got flagged, one for running out of bounds and the other for block in the back. These are offsetting penalties.

What happens?
Are we running the play over again?

I respectfully disagree. The offense got it in position to try for three field goals and only made one. The Jets made it in position to try for one and made it. Clearly we were the better offense on the field, it just didn't turn up in the points.

Offsetting penalties = re-kick.
