Browns/Bills Alt. Locations Being Considered To Blizzard Land

NFL is a joke. Play in the snow ya schmucks.

It's not just playing in the snow that's determining this. Imagine the gridlock on the roads and danger to fans driving to and from the game.

There are a lot of hardo tough guys here, so I figured I’d see the most amount of snowfall in Boston. Looks like you guys had approximately 70cm in 1978 as your biggest snowfall. Buffalo could get up to 150cm.
We had 3 feet fall Saturday into Sunday morning and the Pat's still played their 1pm game with seats all buried, they only cleared the field for the players.

There's nothing like bad weather football but yeah this is the real reason it's canceled.

I know that when our bosses are thinking about calling off work location/locating plays a huge part bc they're on the hook for 2 hours I believe. An hour before and after, especially if something happens close to the site as someone is coming in or leaving.

I'd bet I'm the toughest tough guy here.

that's f#cking ********, just another example of how this country has become p#ssified...disgusting.
They canceled an NFL game due to snow and rain in 1935, so by your definition, it became like that close to a century ago.

Just wondering why they have to call it today versus tomorrow afternoon. I guess they have that much faith in the weatherpeople. Been around too many failed "snowmaggedons" to be skeptical, but these days better to be not liable to be sued up the wazoo safe than sorry.

Don’t know if Rogers Centre in Toronto is NFL ready anymore but surprised that wasn’t considered. I think Canada lifted their covid border restrictions.

I grew up outside of Buffalo and respect this decision. The amount of snow they might get will sure look pretty but it's dangerous. However, I think it would be better to postpone the game by a day rather than move it. Postpone the Bills and Lions on TNF by a day as well if needed. I hope the Bills refund fans as necessary but this is the NFL so who am I kidding?

Toronto is the center of the universe. Just ask a Torontonian.

Are you talking about the game back in the first dynasty where Bruschi had the interception and the crowd celebrated by throwing snow in the air creating a real life snow globe?

If so that was 18 inches at best. We were there and it was a great time but we live in Foxboro. And only about a 1/3 of the crowd made it that day.

Guys, please stop mixing units of measurement. Let's settle on metric or imperial.

Ok so... 150cm = about 5 ft. That's enough. History has shown that people will do dumb chit in bad weather to do chit they love. While I certainly do not want any fans getting hurt or worse to attend a football game, from the comfort of my home on my 65" TV it would be epic to see the game played in it. As an aside, here's a link to a story that might be a parallel :
Bar Room Banter: Armistice Day, The Day 85 Duck Hunters Died.

BGC: that's a bold statement my friend. ;)

I mean I won't go so far as to say I can beat everyone up ... but I think I can. I have a mean Jake Paul right hand with an Andrew Tate mindset. So I'd be almost impossible to stop if I let my temper get the best of me. Luckily many forced anger management classes taught me to control it so as long as you don't mess with me you should be safe.

Jeez... if they can't play at their home stadium due to the winter weather, they're better off if they don't make the playoffs. Imagine what their weather will be like in January? Are they going to move playoff games too?
They can't play because of an extreme weather event, not because of a little snow

So... I live in Buffalo.

I'll tell you what this means. The last time this happened in 2014, the Southowns got 6 feet of snow, and 2 miles up the road in the center of the city, I was sitting in a bar with my cellphone going "off the hook" with calls and messages. The sky was clear, the sun was out, the sidewalk was totally dry. Down in the Southtowns, the roads were all blocked, forget about "dangerous" there was no WAY to go anywhere or to get to the stadium. In other words, YOU CAN'T GET THERE. It took weeks to clear the streets and restore power.

This snow event that's coming looks to be much much worse since 2 weeks ago we had 80 degree weather up here and many of the trees still have all their leaves. This means the snow is going to drag down branches and trees under their weight, take out power lines. Back in 2006, we had a much smaller snow event in October, just 2 feet. There were trees coming down all across the city including my backyard. Trees fell on people and killed them. It looked like a tornado had gone through some neighborhoods. We'll see.

This is my backyard right now with trees mostly full of leaves, and yes I'm worried about them falling: Screen Shot 2022-11-18 at 9.48.06 AM.png

As for concerns about the new stadium and this happening regularly, I've been here 20 years and this is the 3rd time we're getting a huge snow like this. It may happen more in the future though because once the lake freezes over, Lake Effect stops. Now that we're getting warm weather, this may happen more frequently. In the past, January and February were pretty clear of snow.

In case some of you wonder what Lake Effect looks like, I'll post pictures and videos from 2014. Note, the snow doesn't drop from the sky so much as it lifts up from the lake and lands like someone spreading flour on a cake:

I prefer measuring snow in Quail Lengths, which is the distance from the tip of a quail's beak to the tip of its hindfeathers if it's displaying full plumage. It's really the only logical choice that everyone can immediately comprehend.

Nice break for the Bills since the weather conditions clearly would have favored the Browns. Josh Allen will have back-to-back games in ideal conditions to get his game back on track. He pretty much lost the last two games for Buffalo and took himself out of the MVP discussion. Miami plays Houston this weekend so they'll hold onto the division lead for now but their schedule is brutal weeks 13-17 (@SF, @LAC, @BUF, GB, @NEP). The Jets are going to lose 3 of their next 4 (@NEP, CHI, @MIN, @BUF). Buffalo should still win the division (easily).

I was out there in '06 and I can remember tree branches stacked up on the side of the road like snowbanks. Never seen anything like it. Good luck.
