So... I live in Buffalo.
I'll tell you what this means. The last time this happened in 2014, the Southowns got 6 feet of snow, and 2 miles up the road in the center of the city, I was sitting in a bar with my cellphone going "off the hook" with calls and messages. The sky was clear, the sun was out, the sidewalk was totally dry. Down in the Southtowns, the roads were all blocked, forget about "dangerous" there was no WAY to go anywhere or to get to the stadium. In other words, YOU CAN'T GET THERE. It took weeks to clear the streets and restore power.
This snow event that's coming looks to be much much worse since 2 weeks ago we had 80 degree weather up here and many of the trees still have all their leaves. This means the snow is going to drag down branches and trees under their weight, take out power lines. Back in 2006, we had a much smaller snow event in October, just 2 feet. There were trees coming down all across the city including my backyard. Trees fell on people and killed them. It looked like a tornado had gone through some neighborhoods. We'll see.
This is my backyard right now with trees mostly full of leaves, and yes I'm worried about them falling:

As for concerns about the new stadium and this happening regularly, I've been here 20 years and this is the 3rd time we're getting a huge snow like this. It may happen more in the future though because once the lake freezes over, Lake Effect stops. Now that we're getting warm weather, this may happen more frequently. In the past, January and February were pretty clear of snow.
In case some of you wonder what Lake Effect looks like, I'll post pictures and videos from 2014. Note, the snow doesn't drop from the sky so much as it lifts up from the lake and lands like someone spreading flour on a cake:
