Look, it was a @#$%y game, but there were lots of reports before hand about Bill hinting at playing both QBs. It ended up working out spectacularly bad, but that's not to say it wasn't the plan.
Hey, man, you want to believe him, be my guest. Jones was pulled because of performance and replaced by a guy who drove them to two TD immediately.

And when the game was out of hand (and it was out of hand in the 3rd quarter) why not put Mac back in? It's because it was pulled because of performance. His first three series were more of the same regression we've seen in the first three games this season.

I think they were really bad last night.
  • I feel that Barmore's absence was a big contributor, but this scheme that Bill plays on D is susceptible to running QBs, and has been for years. I think they got outcoached in that aspect.
  • Duggar's loss is/was a problem.
  • Trent Brown. JezuzH man. 4 penalties? Go sit in the corner.
  • The rush scheme sucked, against a team that sucks against the run. I don't know where the problem lies without studying film.
  • And the elephant in the room: Mac Jones was not good, albeit with a limited sample size. #teamzappe came out and hit open receivers and got a little momentum, but he lacked the playmaking skills once the Bears fixed whatever they were doing poorly. IMO, right now they have two guys who aren't very good. That's a giant problem.

You know who’s been bad recently & played a role in yesterday’s loss? Jake Bailey. Might want to consider signing someone else if that continues.
Yeah, he had a hot rookie season and then cooled off big time. Time for a change there next off season.

My dad told me last night, BB is the same as Bill Parcels, he's not going to put up with rb's fumbling or qb's throwing interceptions. After Mac threw that int, he was pulled and it worked as Zappe led them to a lead.
Unfortunately, Zappe didn't have the success he had for those first two drives. I think it will be Mac again this week. Hoping there is more continuity and rhythm to the offense going forward.

This whole QB controversy is happening because of Mac's performance and his unwillingess to take care of the ball. Clearly Belichick is sending him a message. If Mac didn't throw this many INTs, there'd be no controversy at all.

That being said, there were several analysts BEFORE THE GAME who were told Zappe would play.

Both of these things can be true at the same time.

That game should go a LONG way towards show everyone that this team is really, really far away.

Bill is going to have to rehaul a good chunk of this team in the off-season and if we get returns on those players closer to Judon as opposed to Smith/Aggy then maybe it can be done in a single off season.
This game, showed how the best QB, who ever played the game, made this team accomplish what they did for 20 yrs.

Last night was the absolute worst case scenario for the whole team.

1. Mac proved that he was not fully healthy and continues to make bad decisions under pressure. To be fair there were too many penalties and bad play across the board for him to get started. The Mac haters were vindicated.
2. Zappe confirmed that he can't carry the offense when the running game is not working. Even the second TD was set up by a fluky play when the defender fell down. The Zappe haters were vindicated.
3. The defense cannot stop a running QB. This has been the case for many years, not sure why the coaches have not fixed that.
4. Special teams continue to lose the field position battle. The punting was atrocious.
5. The team did not come to play with any urgency. Too many penalties and lack of focus. It is easy to blame the coaches, it also seems as if there are not enough on the field leaders to keep the team focused. Some of that starts with the QB.
6. This team plays better on the road

1. Not sure why you continue to ignore this, but Zappe had zero experience with UC PA plays before joining the Patriots. So, the PA was definitely not used to help him since he had no prior experience with it. The fact he's been able to perform the PA at the NFL level is actually a compliment to his fast learning ability.
2. Mac had several unsuccessful PA plays last night.
3. Both QBs had deep vertical plays, Zappe was more successful, by far.

Stats with same # of attempts.

First whether Zappe had experience with play action or not is not as big of a deal as you make it. It isn’t learning how to read defenses or go through your progressions. But they need him to run it because of his limitations.

Second, they ran play action twice for Jones last night. One was out of shotgun and not true play action.

Third, there are real concerns now about Zappe seeing over the line. Notice when the Bears started to flood the passing lanes, most of Zappe’s completed throws were dump offs to Stevenson who was the leading receiver last night. That concerns me is he can’t see his receivers over the line if defensive lines try to clog the passing lanes rather than rush him.

Fourth, the TD pass to Meyers was overthrown and too far outside. Meyers made that play.

Jones (who has started 20+ NFL games and is in his second season) just needs more time to maximize his potential and figure it out. Don’t give up on him yet!”

“Zappe (as a rookie, after two starts) clearly is limited in ways he cannot overcome and will never be a capable NFL QB! Write him off, he’s useless!”

Really? Looks like defenses already figured out Zappe.

So Zappe (a 23 year old rookie who has started two NFL games in his life) experiences one half of football where he struggles a bit, has a handful of passes batted down, and now he’s permanently figured out and cannot possibly adjust, adapt, or overcome this adversity.

Absolute nonsense.

I also want to add and I know some of you have said I am picking on him, but Myles Bryant has to get off the field. He did have that gift interception, but that was Judon who tipped the ball right to him. I could have caught that one. Bad things seem to happen, and teams always seem to target him on 3rd down, let's go with the youth movement and add Marcus, Jack, Jonathan Jones and Mills. I wouldn't mind seeing more Wade either when he's healthy over Bryant.
Wade has been a mystery, Bryant is depth safety playing major snaps over other players, other teams watch film just like we do.. NFL is always about matching up... I know one guy that has been holding his own and that's jack jones! Wise and judon have been the disrupts up front all season.. again the d will bounce back.. just have serious concerns on the state of the locker room with the qb dilemma!

Don't forget that the 2nd half proved that teams know how to stop Zappe now.

Bending over backwards to that extent may be attractive in porn, but doing it to make excuses for Mac the butter Knife is embarrassing.

So Zappe has one half where he struggles a bit and has a handful of passes batted down, and now he’s figured out, reached his ceiling, and cannot possibly adjust, adapt, or overcome any of these obstacles.

Absolute nonsense.
Serious lack of objectivity around here.

Look..the entire league knows the Bears SUCK..their QB is a joke. I'll bet they don't score more than 14 next week. What they did tonight SHOWS that our team has a fatal coaching structure flaw. Poor tackling, poor coverage, poor play calling, and just a sense that this staff does not know what the hell they want to do. Anybody think they'll suddenly put it all together in NJ next weekend? Fat chance

I've been willing to give Belichick the benefit of the doubt on this, given his achievements. But the combination of old boys' club and family hiring has always left me uneasy. Then this weird thing with Patricia and Judge, both coming off HC failures, combined with a relatively thin staff after them, and now the QB weirdness plus the Bears debacle. I'm out of my denial on this. So wish it weren't true. I think he's overmatched at this age and understaffed.

Wanted to see him go out on a high, with Shula's record, and at least a rebuilt championship contender to pass on to the next guy. But it just doesn't seem to be in the cards. And his ultimate boss (the owner) is in exactly the same position so it's kinda hard to expect him to solve it.

While at the same time advocating giving more time to a QB that has played bad the last 10 games he played

You guys think he is a franchise QB based on one game. Which is complete and utter nonsense. You are literally accusing me of stuff the pro Zappe crowd is doing.
