Game Day Thread Official Post Game Thread- Pats beat the Lions

THIS IS OUR LIVE GAME DAY THREAD:

This is where we gather to follow things on Game Day. Obviously, emotions tend to be high so if anyone gets a little crazy, the use of the “Mute” button is encouraged on anyone who may be annoying to you to control your experience and to allow the moderators to also enjoy the game.

At the same time, please take a deep breath before over-reacting for the sake of making this a pleasant experience for everyone.

Jack Jones looks like he could be a stud. Ever since talib the Patriots have somehow found the blueprint to keep drafting or developing solid corners.
I don't know about drafting them but Malcolm and JC were home grown and developed here.

This team will come together even more. All the early panic about Mac, KB, the TE's, the OL... it may take a game against a pitiful defense to give the guys confidence. But, don't think for a minute BB is considering keeping Zappe over Mac this year. Don't forget all the superlatives BB raved about Mac's growth and leadership coming in this year and through preseason. His early struggles were 90% adjustment to all the new personnel and offense, and Mac was forcing things to compensate (even while throwing some dimes down the field). If he's anything, he's a guy that can play within a system - and that system is being ironed out right now. It just so happens that a backup reaped the benefits against a #32 defense. But, Mac would've lit up the Lions for 2+ passing TD's and 350+ yds, because Zappe is still getting the rookie game-manager treatment. I'm thrilled he handled it, and hopefully can manage another safe game @Browns, but this offense and team will take another big step up when Mac returns - he didn't forget how to play and I guarantee his confidence is not shaken, only a fire lit.

It brought back memories being at the game and seeing those uniforms.

Great effort by the team.
Shoutout to the 4th down defense.
Great Weather.

Have teams gotten out control with going for it on 4th down? If I remember correctly the Lions had one scenario, it was the second quarter, down 6-0 and it was 4th and 9 and they went for it, that was the sack for a fumble picked up for a touchdown.

One penalty was illegal formation - I think he started moving forward in motion - I don't remember the last time I saw that called on someone. Other was a false start. Frustrating for everyone, I'm sure.

They were both for Bourne covering up the lineman. Same penalty. On one, he was moving forward, which is how he covering up the lineman at the snap.

This was a tremendous game for the D. I was worried when the Lions marched down the field on the 2nd series, which made Jones' INT that much more important in my book. I don't care how "overrated" the Lions offense was, shutting out any NFL team like this is pretty sweet & those 6 4th down stops were just icing on the cake.

With all of those DBs going down for the Lions & with Harris going out, limiting us to 1 RB, I still don't get why Zappe didn't throw more in the 2nd half. Where were the Patriots with their infamous halftime adjustments? :) Seriously though, if Stevenson went down with an injury, we were sorta screwed.

As good as the O-line looked, Wynn was still not cutting it. In the first series alone, he clearly dropped back pre-snap on the first passing play. He's lucky they missed that. He also hit a Lions defender on the ground after the whistle 2 plays later, which could have also been a penalty.

Speaking of penalties - can someone explain that defensive holding call on Wise on a running play? I watched that play over and over and I just don't see how that was called. The offensive lineman engaged Wise and clearly continued to engage him as the running back ran by, so how is that holding on Wise?

Wynn has something like 7 penalties in 5 games. Not to mention all the sacks he has given up.

I know we're beating on Wynn a lot BUT 4 of those damn 6 penalties are bogus in my book, 3 holds and 1 for lining up too deep. I just think he's getting some awful attention from the refs. I see these games with people getting absolutely mugged, then I see holding calls on Wynn (and yesterday Wise) and I'm like, "There's no hold there for heaven's sake!"

I was at the '94 game in Chicago ... I know we didnt wear the throwbacks for that game... and I looked thru the photo logs, and can't find a game where we played the bears in throwbacks...

EDIT Patsylicious nailed it - we played the Packers at home in All Whites in '94...

The reds/away game i was referring to earlier was the 1994 thanksgiving game in detroit...

I thought I accounted for all the throwback uniform games in the Uniform thread... Though, it was hardly an exhaustive search, so it is quite possible I missed a game or two
I think I'm wrong about the Bears game...

I am pretty sure it'll be Mac again when he's healthy, unless Mac misses many more games and Zappe stays hot, but I feel fairly confident that Bill will be evaluating the position in the offseason. Mac probably still has fairly high trade value.

I think its a great sign that judon only had to be in 55% of the snaps. We need to keep him fresh for the stretch, wondering if he was just burnt out at the end last year. Uche and wise stepping up would be huge
He said he worked on conditioning this offseason so he'd be better down the stretch this year.

90% of Jones' play should be explained by the circumstances around him? I mean, the guy threw some really bad INTs and has demonstrated some pretty lackluster pocket awareness this season.

Maybe the lack of offensive timing and rhythm under Jones can be chalked up to the guys around him ... maybe. But him missing underneath defenders, throwing passes up for grabs, and not feeling the pocket well (despite largely solid pass protection) can't be put on anyone except himself.

He's thrown some pretty passes and done good things when he was on the field this season, but he should take accountability for his mistakes, especially with Zappe coming in and operating the exact same offense (without Jonnu, and Harris for part of the game) with similar command/control, all the while appearing to keep them in rhythm, and arguably doing a better job getting the ball out on time and on schedule.

I think judon is team mvp and we go as he goes. The collapse at the end last year has many factors but imo judon disappearing was #1. The defense relies on him so much
