“This is a private company and I don’t like what you’re saying.”

-An incel

What is the difference between a private message board you are allowed to join and a public message board that accepts funding to help run its operations. Educate me.
A public message board or forum would imply that it is owned by the public or a governmental body. It would be like going to a park to debate with friends or the public at large. You have expectations of constitutionally protected activity. It is funded by the public. A private message board, whether it solicits funding from good natured individuals or not, has no public interest and is a private entity. Even if this was Publicly traded company, only the people that held shares would have any interest. And users would still be subject to the the TAC set forth by the organization. It's a private message board, you are allowed to use

It’s a public message board, open to the public, and partially funded by the public. That you’re trying to bring private vs public funding re: a company into this is a sign of desperation.

Ian, shut off new registrations. This board is no longer open to the public.

Imagine being a grown man and calling yourself “LFGMac10.”
Imagine claiming you have an MBA and then not understanding the basics of private vs public ownership

I do. For a company. This is a message board, ma’am.

Is it open to the public? Does Ian have the right to refuse entry to anyone he chooses?

He does after the fact. Outside of that, someone from the Taliban can sign up and post. It’s a public forum. After that, moderation has the ability to restrict posting. Just like the cops have the right to trespass homeless people from a park.

Let’s ****ing go, Mac 10!

So he has to allow anyone to join, he can't set up and approval process where you have to fill out an application and deny you entry based on criteria he determines?

Who was talking about a company, though? Was it me? Or was that a way of moving the goal posts?
This is a company. Ian is making so much money off of this place.
LOL, oh yes. For the record, this place costs $600 a month for the server along with other costs I won't get into (Cloudflare and some other things) and I'm sure you guys have noticed that everyone logged in sees zero ads, along with the fact everyone and their brother uses ad blockers, etc. Not to mention that ad rates on forums are terrible anyway, but that's a story for another day. Each month the goal is just to not add any further $$ to my credit card than I already have. Good times.

Does he do that for anyone who signs up? Didn’t think so. It’s open to the public. It’s a public forum.

Exactly what I’ve been trying to say. This is a public forum, funded in part by the public, and you swing the final axe. You give us a hell of a lot of input over what we want on here. I know this from PMs. Help the middle-aged man named Let’s F-ing Go, Mac 10 understand that.

You're a moron, the fact that he can makes it a private entity. It's privately owned, by him. It's not open to the public. It's open to whoever the owner wants. As long as he doesn't discriminate based on protected classes of people.

So, basically, it’s open to the public. Lol at “protected classes of people.” Does Ian require photo ID?

@Ian can I submit my passport in lieu of my drivers license so you know that you’re not violating the Civil Rights Act?

Lets put this to bed, how do you feel ian are you publicly funded? Or are you a privately owned entity?

The University of Phoenix is having a 10 year reunion next month. I’m debating about whether or not I should go. It’s a private event.

You think he’s spending $600 of his own coin every month? The public funding helps. Idiot. You dumbass.
