BB on how long he wants to coach

At the end of the day this seems to be BBs biggest mistake. But how do you fault someone for not giving a 40 year old man a 3 year extension 2 years early.
I don't, but why are we not asking to find a 70 year old man's replacement at HC when no HC has been successful coaching in the NFL into their 70s?

What has Belicheck done that Brady didn't that prevents the same question regarding age?

Brady never gave us that option because we didn't give him the extension in previous years.

IMO it all comes down to that BB wouldn't give him an extension through age 45 when Brady was 38,39, & 40 so at age 41 Brady decided he was done here and left after the following season.
I agree with 2019 Brady being done playing for Belicheck, that's why I said the extension would have been done in 2018 when Brady was 40.

Do we know if he is pressuring Kraft to pay up now for 4 or 5 years in the future?

But also I think there is a physical difference between QBing at 45 years old and coaching at 70 years old.

The discussion of replacing him because his age is nonsensical. He is not an athlete.

It's done with players because we have decades of history which tells us to it is rare players perform at an elite level in their forties.

BB made the playoffs last year. Way too premature to have the conversation

Age doesn't matter with a coach as much as it does with a player but that doesn't mean it's irrelevant. Can a 70+ year old coach get a very young team to buy in? Totally different generations. That’s tough. There’s a reason why younger guys like McVay are successful today and no 70+ year old coach really has had success. IMO that is one reason why Tom Coughlin was “fired”/asked to step down as Giants coach and why Pete Carroll will probably be on his way out soon himself. I think Bill recognizes this already and is trying to evolve a bit in how he deals with his players and media vs the old school Bill.

I assume the team won’t make the same mistake with BB’s departure whenever the time comes like they did with Brady. They’ll need to have a plan after Bill and not just move on for the sake of moving on. I’d like to think Bill will also have some input into who it should be. Maybe they already have their eye on someone.

As for Brady yes no QB had ever played at an elite level at Brady’s age but if there was ever a once in a generation exception to this rule it was TB12 and BB and the team should have bet on that.

Ummm, you realize Bill Belichick isn’t a professional athlete, right? Our last two presidents were older at the very start of their terms than Belichick is now.

Bruce Arians became the oldest HC to win a superbowl.

There is no proof a HC can win into their 70s because it's never been done in the NFL so you could easily make the same claim that there is decades of proof that coaching into their 70s at elite level is extremely rare for coaches.

Being an NFL HC is not the same demand as coaching a JV HS team

I just want to say that I agree wioth your point overall but using the last two POTUS as examples isn't really helping your case. ;)

Not a great argument. Neither Presidents did anything to make the US a more united country and both were/are heavily critized about their duties due to age.

Outside of diehard loyalists I don't think anyone of neutral standing will be ranking either Trump or Biden as one the best Presidents of all time.

Age doesn't matter as much fully agree.

But 70 years old for a HC is the equivalent of 40 years old for an athlete. Very rarely do people coach into their 70s at the highest level of professional sports, and when they do its normally at college and those coaches are viewed as shells of themselves

No.

Bill was 69 and had a playoff team.

If he was 69 and we had a number of losing seasons then you might be on to something.

You are now saying one year older warrants an executive search.

That does not make sense.

Am I saying Bill today is a lousy coach?

Gregg Poppovich one of the GOAT BB coaches had 20 straight years of a winning record. Hit 70 and has 3 straight losing seasons.

Yes the evidence in the history of sports indicates that 70 is a threshold year.

Romeo Crennel is the oldest HC in the history of the NFL at 73, prior to him was George Halas at 72.

The history of the NFL and professional sports speaks to age for athletes and for coaching.

Do you seriously think Bill should be coaching at 75?

He will be 71 next year, suggesting his better days are behind him are not far fetched.

Unless you love the idea of his son taking over or Matt Patricia.

Also I wouldn't bring up the most embarrassing lost in NFL history as a reason to why Bill is proving to be successful into his 70s.

If someone can say the Pats were wise to not trust Brady at 42 then I think it's fair to suggest we can't trust Bill at 71

You are the one bringing up replacing BB because of his age.

If they are winning, why do you care about a coaches age?

Pops losing has more to do with Duncan retiring and Leonard leaving. Not a good example.

You are looking to create a problem when one does not exist

Pops still made it the Playoffs for multiple years after Duncan and Leonard.

Also Pops alienated Leonard from the team with his coaching style costing the Spurs a top 5 player in the league.

Bringing up Bill's age because it's a legit concern.

Give 1 example of a professional sport, a sport as demanding as football, where a coach excelled as a HC into his 70s

Leonard's problem was his contract.

It is not a concern because it's not a problem. If you want to make up problems be my guest.

When they start losing and BB 8s dozing off in meetings let me know

Answer this question.

Why is it fair to say Brady didn't deserve an extension because no QB ever excelled into their 40s, despite the fact Brady showed no signs of decline... but somehow you can't question Bill's age when no NFL HC has been successful into their 70s?

That makes zero sense. If no HC has been successful into their 70s then it's just as right to question

How long do you think Bill can effectively coach?

Do you like the idea of Steven Belicheck or Patricia taking over?

Coaches coach with their brains.

Players need their bodies.

Not the same comparison

BB can coach until he loses. Age has nothing to do with it.

And Brains get more fatigued with age and also start to lose cognitive abilities with age
