NEW ARTICLE: Patriots’ Situation With Kendrick Bourne Needs a Resolution Sooner than Later

Don't know about anyone else but if players are now starting to speak up for Bourne then this is starting to become a big deal and I think BB might have a real problem to deal with and he needs to do that now.

IIRC we saw this story before with Tom Coughlin as Giants coach. Legendary coach. Coughlin and the Giants beat us to win SB, he says he wants to coach into his 70's, but his team regresses, they have a playoff win drought, his team can't hold leads, plays poorly in December, Giants owner starts becoming vocal, players not on the same page as the coach... sound familiar? Then he lost the locker room completely, and he was out. I don't want BB's story to end like that.

We've seen BB deal with the Milloy fallout in 2003 and a locker room cancer situation in 2009. He needs to deal with this problem now before it becomes a cancer of its own and a distraction that could derail a very important season for our QB and this rebuild.

Let's hope they can patch things up this current Team will not do much without K Bourne yeah I said it.

We did what we thought was best,” said Belichick when asked about Bourne. He added that it had nothing to do with a possible disciplinary action by the team.

I thought ‘KB’ did a great job stepping in there when we needed him,” said Belichick. “Made a big play for us. He’s a good player. I’m sure that he’ll have plenty of opportunities, as all of our skill players will, going forward, so we’ll see how it all plays out.”

“It just kind of worked out that way,” Belichick replied, “it wasn’t anything that was specifically avoided. Just didn’t work.”

Makes no sense that he wasn't part of the gameplan. The fact that they put him in late suggests the gameplan wasn't working, so let's change it for two plays...and then go back to the demonstrably inferior plan of benching him?

Doesn't really feel like that was what was "best for the team".

They don't have a Game Changer on Offense I know they are hoping T Thornton answers that but he's hurt. Until then K Bourne have to be that Guy we can't keep going with J Meyers as our #1 Advantage Defense.

I really really hope that resolution isn’t a cut/trade. As some pointed out yesterday, it’s a problem when our passing game is only quick game for a few yards with minimal yac and chucking contested fades down the sideline. We need to get more of a threatening passing game in the intermediate area over the middle of the field. I think Kendrick is a guy with some explosion and YAC ability that can help with that. He can offer something to the offense that the other WRs do not.
Right now it’s very difficult to sustain drives when we need to repeatedly stay on schedule, avoid anything negative happening, and string together 10+ plays to move the ball.

It's interesting to see this kind of game being called by Patricia nonetheless. Much to our frustration as fans - but, admittingly to the success of those teams, Patricia's bend-don't-break philosophy as a DC had the idea in mind that forcing teams to string together long drives of 10+ plays creates more opportunities for mistakes with the opposing offense.

This could be in response to a talent deficiency, or the team is still finding their chemistry, but it is interesting to see what's unfolding.

The bottom line is the team isn't good enough otherwise to bench arguably their best receiver. Meyers is decent but he's limited and not a game-changer. Parker hasn't had time to establish a good rapport with Mac yet. Mac had a 125 passer rating last season when targeting Bourne. Two snaps in the season opener is inexcusable. Seems like someone was trying to send a message to Bourne or the team by dressing Bourne and regulating him mostly to the sideline. It backfired, wasn't in the best interest of the team, and may have contributed to your franchise quarterback getting hurt.

I like Bourne as a receiver and he seems like a team-oriented player. He's also one of Mac's closest friends on the team. I don't think it's any coincidence that Mac targeted Bourne on his first game rep. Clearly Mac wants Bourne on the field, and given the state of the coaching staff, I'll defer to Mac's judgment.

I think there’s a lot of speculation and projection and wishful thinking about problems going on, especially here.

the following doesn’t sound like BB is down on KB, in fact it sounds much the opposite. Adding in KB’s statement taking accountability for not giving the coaches what they want to see from him I think this whole thing has already turned the corner and become a positive influence on team chemistry.

It wasn't, but sometimes that's not always at the top of Bill's to-do list.

Or maybe Bill’s vision of what’s best for the team is broader or more subtle than ours.

Comments from those who have comparable or better coaching records carry more weight as far as I’m concerned than do random armchair Internet posters and attention hungry click bait media whores.

I prefer "media courtesan"

It's more probable that "this whole thing has already turned the corner and become a positive influence on team chemistry" is projection and wishful thinking. There's just no question Belichick is down on Bourne... 2 snaps. Whether it's on-field or off-field, Belichick has an issue with Bourne and he tried to make a statement on Sunday by essentially benching him in uniform. Bourne can put on a happy face in front of the media but he's got to be pissed. As are probably Mac and the rest of the offensive personnel. Bourne was the team's best receiver last season. There's no justification for him seeing only 2 snaps in the season opener. It hurt the team. Very poor decision by someone.

In other words, whatever decision Bill makes is the right one... Got it.

Any way you look at it...the players will now see this as a weakness of Bill...a mistake that cost the game possibly. This is a bad thing for weeks to come IMO.

That's not what he said. He said Bills decisions carry more weight than your armchair QBing BBs decisions.

Whatever he said, he's still wrong if he's defending Bill's indefensible decision to give Bourne only 2 snaps on Sunday.

Can we question the decision or not? Or are we only talking about positive things from the game?... which is a short discussion. The most positive thing I can think to say about Bourne's gameday usage is it was bizarre. Most definitely it didn't help the offense, which had two good drives, the scoring drive, and the opening drive that ended with a really bad play-call by Matt Patricia and a misconnection between Mac and a new receiver.

What's the message with Bourne on the sideline? Bill's decisions carry more weight? Well obviously, he's running the show, but his decisions aren't always in the best interest of the team. This was a very obvious example of that.

It’s not just players speaking up for Bourne. Coaches too.

Now I’m wondering how soon the narrative morphs into dissension with the Pats’ coaching staff, with Patricia and Brown feuding over KB?

Patriots receivers coach Troy Brown had high praise for the way Bourne has conducted himself this season

“I thought ‘KB’ did a great job stepping in there when we needed him,” said Belichick. “Made a big play for us. He’s a good player.“
