NFL GAME DAY DISCUSSION NFL Week 1 Other Games

Something to think about as it relates to the Pats is that the Rams and their vaunted defense didn't stop Allen once. There were fumbles and a pick that bounced off the receiver's chest. The Chiefs defense also got absolutely toyed by him. This guy is a problem. It ain't that the Pats can't make him punt, it's that according to his last few games against top competition, nobody can.
If it bleeds we can kill it

Allen extended a lot of drives on his own…not sure the Rams are built to stop a running QB like that. Heck, we are going to have our own issues with him…
That's my point. He hasn't been stopped for at least his last 3 games, all against playoff teams, including the champs' star studded defense. Something to think about when we criticize last year's Pats' performance vs him.

I think both things can be true at the same time. The Patriots had one of their worst performances in a game in the BB era last January, and Josh Allen has been playing at an otherworldly level since last January. He might just be the one to actually win that organization a ring.

And yet, late Nov. last year:
Colts 41
@Bills 15

Any given Sunday, huh?

Generally agreed, but I'd hardly call the SB favorite coming out and dominating an outlier.

two superbowl contenders......the bills will be good, but not as good as they looked last night......the rams might not go back to back, but they won't be as bad as they were last night

week one is.......week one........

Yep, he's been stopped before and will be stopped again. Can't *always* be like his current stretch.

Allen has been unstoppable, partly due to his ability to run and keep the defense on its heels. He needs to learn to avoid taking so many hits for it to be sustainable over the long term.

It's okay to admit the Bills are a good team. A lot of yall are doing mental gymnastics trying to dismiss them. They'll be a problem this year. However I do agree it's just week 1 and I'm on record on saying they're a bit overhyped. They did deliver yesterday though

The only tough teams remaining on the Bills schedule is Baltimore, KC, and GB and potentially two games against NE....the rest should be a cakewalk.
Never know when a Jacksonville or facsimile will show up and smash that cake to smithereens. Any given Sunday, Monday or Thursday.

Anyone here who thinks they wouldn't change their outlook for the season if the Patriots come out and blow the doors off Miami on Sunday is simply lying to themselves. Yes, when a really talented team with a top 5 QB widely considered to be a Super Bowl favorite opens up on the road and destroys the current champs despite four turnovers it means something. It doesn't mean they'll be at this level the whole season, it doesn't mean they'll have success in the playoffs, but it's probably a pretty good indication they're focused and capable of playing up to expectations.

I love the end of the year prognostications after one game…30 teams in the NFL haven’t even played yet

Well I like predictions more when based on more information. It's a lot easier to predict something after each team has played 17 games and we know whose in the playoffs. This is obviously a knee jerk reaction. But also based on my preseason speculation. I thought before the season the Rams would probably regress a bit. And it looks like they are. I thought the Bills would be the team to beat in the AFC and it looks like they will. But like I said. I think Denver has a chance to knock them off. I don't really trust the Bengals to get it together. This was more about how their D looked and if it would work. Ds don't usually just stop working.

As for my comment on the Bucs. Process of elimination. I know a lot has been made of GB's defense, but we live in an offensive world now, and there are no shut down Ds left, and good offenses find a way to score against everyone if they are championship caliber typically. We may have the single odd game where scoring is low, but that is the exception and not the rule.

Teams rarely come out of nowhere these days like the 2001 Patriots did as offense takes more than 1 season to establish typically. And like I said, it's an offensive game these days. So really only 12 teams come in with a chance anyway. And we just saw 2 in the top 4-6 play that added credence to some ideas i already had. I don't feel like I need to see the likes of the Giants, Jags or Texans play to make a judgement among a much smaller pool of real contenders.

Maybe the Bills really will have everything clinched by week 18... which would be great news for us if we need a W to make the playoffs. After 2002 and 2008 I think we're owed a freebie.

They might. Outside of 2-3 more games they should have a massive advantage in the rest. If they beat the Bengals/Ravens/KC or even just the right 2/3 I'd be surprised if the first seed wasn't locked up by that point. But who knows. Maybe LAC take the division from KC. But even if they do I don't see them within 2 games of the Bills. It only means KC has fallen further than i thought. And Denver is a dangerous team they don't play potentially.

It will only change 1 thing for me. I might change my mind about them making the playoffs as a 7th seed and i might change my mind about the dolphins being a playoff team. But weeks ones are always fluky. Someone you don't see coming usually gets blown out big time in a game they shouldn't. Maybe that was the Rams in a 10-31. But weeks 1s usually have something like 40-3 with one team not realizing, yes the season as actually started

Houston we have a Josh Allen problem: 9 of 10 Third down conversions you are going to win a lot of games doing that. Buffalo don't need a Punter because they won't be punting much with Allen's running and throwing. The Bills have a Special player like we had for 20 years he's not the goat yet but he's very talented.

And neither are we...we had a bitter taste of him in our recent playoffs game.

I would give it at least one game for every team before making any knee jerk reactions. There are a lot of unknowns with certain teams right now. For Tampa, they potentially have 0-line issues which could derail their season - it doesn't matter how many weapons they have or if Gronk comes back. New Orleans can be good but only if Winston plays like he did last year (until he got injured). As for the Rams, many of their starters, including Stafford, didn't play a snap in the preseason. It was clear Stafford was out of sync with his receivers yesterday as he missed some big throws to wide open guys. After a month or so, they may look better - who knows.

The 2017 Eagles were definitely a surprise team, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that a random team ends up winning.

Vikings could be 2017 Eagles
