2022 Patriots Roster Cut Down Day Thread

Quite an assertion. What's the evidence of improvement? As clowns go, Mayock and Meyer were as laughable as it's ever been in the NFL.
Meyer was an abomination, and he didn't last long, and Mayock was wholly unqualified to manage an NFL franchise, but those are the exception. The old-school billionaire owner set is certainly prone to fits of foolishness, such as hiring media personalities like Gruden and effective college recruiters without adequate critical thinking, but there is a cadre of executives and coaches that came-up through organizations that sustained success through professional management and coaching, like the 49ers under Walsh, Patriots under Belichick, Packers under Holmgren, and Eagles/Chiefs under Reid, who know how to build and coach talented teams and install professional training and nutrition programs. There will always be winners and losers, and those with elite quarterbacks and other game changers will be on the winning side and the clown shows and otherwise unfortunate will be on the losing side, but in the bulk of the league, the any given Sunday mantra is a testament to the quality of the athletes, coaching, and team building these days.

That doesn't feel right to me. There is a roster limit, so you can't keep all the players you think are good. This is not like old time college football where you dress 100+ players. We will see a bunch of those "JAGS" come back to the practice squad, or younger players get moved to the practice squad so those "JAGS" can get a roster spot.
Well, to be fair, how many of these bottom of the line practice squad players ever get called up, let alone do anything meaningful for their teams? We as fans seem to care much more about them then the teams themselves do. Of course we don't see them practice day in and day out. We watch their highlights and then maybe get to see them in a preseason game against other scrubs where we say, wow he is amazing. If the coaches that see them practice day in and day out, don't think they are good enough to make the team they probably aren't, and most never will, so why spend a ton of time worrying about them?

To tell the truth I haven't read much on this forum about Hines, I guess I need to read up on him What is his great potential? I'm not disputing that, I just haven't heard that much about him, and I'm all for having some high-upside rookies on the 53.

I believe that he played Center at LSU before Lloyd Cushenberry took over the starting role, but did not return there after the 2019 season; instead he started at RG his final two seasons... I think the hope with him is that he can become another Mongo Karras-type of lineman who can provide value at both Guard spots while re-learning the Center position under Andrews; at least that's my hope...

And how many SUperbowls did John Hannah win?
I would say as many as Tom Brady, you see individuals don't win Super Bowls, teams do. If you don't have the team around you I don't care how talented you are you won't make it to the Super Bowl.

So not taking anything away from Tom Brady because when you have the talent around you, you have to perform yourself to get there as well. Unfortunately many greats never got there due to poor talent around them.

We were fortunate to watch one of the great quarterbacks be paired with good talent and coaching thus giving us many years of dominance in the NFL. I don't know if that will ever be seen again.

Yeah, we have a lot of young players, but also have guys like:

Slater - 37
Folk- 37
McCourty- 35
Cody Davis- 33
Guy - 32

Plus Hoyer - 36

And I haven't checked, but I feel like some of our rookies are on the older side for rookies, like Cole Strange is 24.

Yep. Schooler is already 25. Strange, J.Jones, and Roberts are 24. Strong and Mitchell turn 24 yet this season.

Please stop with these "homer" posts. We all know that you are no longer a fan of the Patriots. Let's just leave it at that and you can go and root for the Bucs and go back to the TB Forum.

Consider this a warning.

Deus is 100%, stone-cold correct about how we came to be 9-4 heading into Indy... and that's cause for ****ing censorship?!?

Sorry not sorry, but that's ****ing Bullsh!t.

Put down your fingers and have a cuppa tea like I'm having...

A disconcerting number of our "fans" seem to want us to fail so they can be "right". A wise man once said "I'd rather be happy than right"
Being a pessimistic sports fan is the safe/easy play. They lose? You were right all along that they sucked, anyway. They win? You get to jump on the bandwagon. I sometimes enjoy the feeling of crushing agony (so long as it isn't for things that truly matter in life), so I'm ready for the thrill of victory!

In hindsight, I think we can all agree that was exactly what happened and that is fine to call out.

The actual issue is that particular poster lives for calling out posters for their assessments only after they've been proven wrong and belittles them in the process by calling them "homers".

In addition hes not a fan of the team. Hes here because of what I previously said.

It's also safe because it's playing the odds. 31 of 32 teams will finish the year in disappointment. Even if we say that getting to the conference championship is a successful year, that's 87.5% of teams that "failed". If you went to a casino, and could double your money with a bet, and one option had an 87.5% chance of winning... well, the casino would be out of business in 10 minutes, but you see what I'm saying.

The Patriots were by far the best team in the league last season when healthy. It's not even close. They were absolutely bullying some of the best teams in the league, including the #1 seed. Injuries are literally the only thing that were able to stop this dominant squad in 2021. The team was forced into playing its entire practice squad against Buffalo.

Now that that's settled, we can move the discussion back on topic.

Yes. But Covid eligibility rules are going to result in older rookies on a lot of teams. Unless you are a top draft pick, a lot of guys are going to use that year in college. So undrafted and lower round picks might tend to be older for everyone. Jared Bernhardt for the Falcons, for example, turns 25 shortly.

The narrative that fans on this forum who point out problems, issues or concerns are "not fans" and should go root for another team is simply not true and threatening them with suspension seems over the top.

I will readily admit...we have been spoiled rotten during the Brady years. Our fan base is not entitled to a winning team and championship caliber team every year. I admire the fans on this forum who always can see the glass half full and are always supporting the patriots including BB and the front office.

If we restricted comments to only upbeat glass half full views the forum would get very boring very quickly. What sets apart Boston fans from other fanbases is critical thinking.

I think that us "negative Nancies" could learn to temper what seems as complaining or whining
I also think the homers could be a bit more open to glass half empty comments and not try to run them off the board.

I have accepted that we are NOT entitled to a great team every year, I will continue to root hard for the Pats every game and they will always be my favorite team. I will not be shy about discussing when the highly paid professionals that make up the front office, coaches or players are not performing up to expectations and suggestions for improvement.
That comes with being paid millions of dollars to play a kids game.

Really good point.

It’s hard for me to fathom that we’re going to roll into the season with two TEs. Really, just one TE until Smith proves that he’s not just happy with being paid and decides to actually contribute. I think another shoe is likely to drop before opening day.
Air Raid!

This has never been the point and never will be. It's the bizarre non-stop whining the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over..................................................................................
