2022 Patriots Roster Cut Down Day Thread

It’s gotten ridiculous. It’s to the point where reading this board diminishes my enjoyment of the team.
Unfortunately, this is the way of the world now. I try to tune out the ridiculous repartee.

Wouldn't Montgomery to IR beckon J.J. Taylor's return?

Montgomery is on the 53. He will not go to "season ending" IR (if that is what you meant), but to "temporary" 4 week IR which would not necessarily beckon JJ Taylor's return IMO without another injury. It also might be K Harris, not JJ Taylor - we will see. I like Taylor, but the Pats coaching staff never seemed to connect with JJ.

However the regular fans on this board are subjected to two groups that dont get this and ruin it for the rest of us. The Brady boyz, who spend their lives in the Tompa forum who only come over to gloat when the team struggles, and the pink hat eyores who expect the team to win the super bowl every year and ***** about every little thing.

Personally, I think we should just let people express how they feel without someone questioning their fandom or their decency as a human being because they might express an opinion or emotion different from what you’ve thinking or feeling.
You wrote your opinion, I wrote my reaction to your opinion. That's what discussion forums are for, not for expressing opinions then expecting them to stand un-challenged as if they are chiseled onto stone tablets.

Is it a recent phenomenon where people literally get offended because someone disagrees with them. If you’re so weak in your opinions or in your sense of optimism that someone expressing a different opinion or pessimism effects you so badly that you have to lash out or belittle people for it, well, cut it out.
You are the one being thin-skinned.

This forum is going downhill fast. Wet behind the ears mods are more worried about nonsense like trolling while turning a dead eye to how posters are treated and often piling on themselves for good measure.
Ok, your earlier take was the team lacks talent, and now it's that the board is going downhill. Are you expecting no one to challenge that opinion too?

I followed Miguel and “Patscap” here, so I’ve been kicking around here for a long time. I owe Ian and Patsfans debts I’ll never be able to pay, but this isn’t the same place, and I find that sad.
How are we supposed to react to that? Suggest that you buy yourself a time machine so you could go back to those days when you were satisfied with the team's talent level and when you felt the board was better? Oh, that's right, we shouldn't react.

So, I am sorry Ken, but if you are consistently going to be a Whiney ****ing ***** then go somewhere else or shut the **** up and leave us to enjoy our team.

Surprising that after all the debate about Nixon vs. Wilkerson vs. Humphrey, all three of them are out. And Thornton's out a few weeks too!

Only having 2 TEs is also a little bit bizarre. A ton of money invested in two TEs but no depth behind them whatsoever...

The OL depth chart is just... weird.

I'm happy they kept some guys, but I gotta say, the 53-man roster having 10 rookies on it feels quite bizarre. I think there'll definitely be a lot more moves in the next week.

A wise man said this team will look different before next Sunday.

I want these guys back on the team in some capacity: Hambright, K. Harris, Humphrey, McGrone, Nixon, Ray, Russey, Sherman, Vizcaino.

New England Patriots: Waived or released tight end Devin Asiasi, defensive back Justin Bethel, offensive lineman Drew Desjarlais, offensive lineman Yasir Durant, offensive lineman James Ferentz, offensive lineman Arlington Hambright, wide receiver Josh Hammond, running back Kevin Harris, defensive back Brad Hawkins, wide receiver Lil'Jordan Humphrey, linebacker Harvey Langi, linebacker Cameron McGrone, cornerback Terrance Mitchell, offensive lineman Bill Murray, wide receiver Tre Nixon, defensive lineman Jeremiah Pharms Jr., defensive lineman LaBryan Ray, offensive lineman Kody Russey, offensive lineman Will Sherman, tight end Matt Sokol, running back J.J. Taylor, kicker Tristan Vizcaino, linebacker Nate Wieland, and tight end Jalen Wydermyer. Placed defensive lineman Henry Anderson and wide receiver Kristian Wilkerson on injured reserve.
Unlikely to be many of them because the other 31 teams also just released guys who can play. I would expect some of these guys to be on the practice squad, but with at least as many picked up from other teams.

Wait a couple of days for it to shake out. What it is now is NOT what it will be for the first game.

There is always a lot of moves in the week after the "cutdown to 53 day". That is normal and usual. What kind of "not normal and usual" moves are you expecting? A couple of guys go on temporary IR, and then we add OL and TE depth. We have 4 WRs and when Thornton and Montgomery are back, and it is up to 6 WRs. Humphrey or Nixon are on the PS makes it 7 WRs - that seems OK to me. Seems quite straight forward ....................

Wilkerson was looking good before the cheap shot TEN laid on him. Very unfortunate result of those overly aggressive practices.

The team has only 2 TE and zero FB. Clearly the team is taking a new approach to offense.

Personally I thought the writing was on the wall for Keene and Asiasi when the team spent the big bucks on Smith and Henry. It was a pretty clear indication that the younger players needed to step up or they'd be gone. Now, they're gone.

Maybe we should give it one or two more days before burying them? There is a practice squad and Asiasi is a hard working, honest, athletic guy who can in-line block at a minimum. A bit awkward catching passes I agree.

The moment BB let JC go (and not even for top end $) it was clear this will be a transition year with little investment in proven players. I called it right then - take the 3rd round comp, acquire loads of cheap young players (and cheap vets as insurance) and leave big cap space of the future intact - giving them maximum flexibility in several future years.

The only notable investment was Parker and even he was cheap (5rd 2022, 3rd 2023, 6$ cap).
Next is Brown on 4.5M cap (ridiculously low for starting LT).
The rest was peanuts (not counting DMC bc of void math) - and half of them are gone.

So while from competitive side 2022 roster was always going to be certain disappointment - it is not like that from mid term team building perspective. It feels like all out competition/audition for 2023-2025 roster when Pats will be the kings of FA (or at least in position to be). And that includes QB..

And are you telling me BB kept Cody Davis & Schooler?? That's insane. I mean Safety is the deepest position on the roster!
DMC, Phillips, Dugger, Peppers, Bledsoe & technically C. Davis & Schooler.

Yep, and don't forget Jalopy Tavai, another Special olympics Teams "maven" who's absolutely ****ing Useless on the field of play.

Great post until "And that includes QB". Amazing how a post can go from best to worse in a split second.

See the problem is most normal fan bases would look at a team that has the success the patriots have had over the past 2 decades and be happy. They would also understand that they went all in the last few years to eak out that last Super Bowl win. And between the way the draft is setup and the nfl stealing picks from them it is almost impossible to stay good forever. Then they would see that in year 2 of the rebuild we ended up with the best rookie/pro bowl qb in the league and made the playoffs, and be really excited about the way the team is trending.

Is that the problem? Are you sure the problem is not that a bunch of homers look at a stretch of games last year, where the Patriots lucked into a combination of an schedule stretch, games against good teams that were devastated by injuries, and a (not-literal) monsoon, and rode that ridiculously good fortune to a better-than-deserved record and a playoff game, where they were ***** slapped up and down the field for 4 quarters, and just overrate last season?

Because that also fits into the facts of the "problem"...
