PFT: Belichick sees Dramatic Improvement in Mac

That 02 season was wacky.

They start out as world beaters. Then drop 4 straight. Then win 5 of 6. Then drop 2 big games vs TN and the NYJ. Vs MIA they come back w 5min left and Tom has 2 dislocated shoulders.

...and a defense with Law, Milloy, Bru, Vrabes, Sey, Hamilton, Roman, Ted Johnson and Willie finish with the worst run D in the entire league.
Man that run defense. I remember a game against the chargers early in the season where Tomlinson ran for about 600 yards and thinking, god this is going to be a long season. Ted Washington the next year was a freaking godsend.

Yeah the Priest Holmes game before that one told me there was probably gonna be some trouble with the run defense.

The game has passed him by.

We need an auto-ignore function here at PatsFans that excludes posts by those above the proper cut-off age to make sure we're not considering the posts of those who have been passed by.
Yeah he failed miserably with Onwenu, Duggar, Mac, Barmore and Rhamondre… solid analysis.

We need a millennial function for those who were kids in the early 2000’s and still have a childlike interpretation of how football works because they never faced actual tough times and struggle to know the difference.

When I discuss quarterbacks, I (like most of the rest of the world) default to passing statistics.

And fumbles are part of passing QB’s too. Brady is by literally no one’s definition a running QB yet he had more seasons with 8+ lost fumbles than most.

You, however, made an argument about Allen where you included his rushing stats in his totals. It is intellectually dishonest to include only the good from his rushing stats and ignore the bad.

Fumbles are not just part of rushing as I said.

It’s more intellectually dishonest of you to assume that fumbles = rushing as if that is some correlation when it isn’t.

So what exactly is the point you are trying to make here...?

My point is that you are only bringing up fumbles because I brought up rushing. Yet, fumbles are QB position does not = rushing or vice versa.

Brady had almost just as many lost fumbles through 4 years while being a pocket QB.

So if you want to include fumbles as part of a QB’s evaluation you must do it for BOTH rushing QB’s and pocket QB’s.

Otherwise, to quote you, you’re being intellectually dishonest.

Several teams including the Chargers were copying what the Chiefs were doing with their designed run plays that looked like fake end arounds.

It is Not "a" draft pick... But you knew that already.
They were back in the playoffs last season largely due to draft picks… but you knew that already.

What about the historic amount of money they spent in free agency last year because of their poor drafting?

Good old Steve Martin year of 2002. I can’t remember what game it was he was blatantly jogging behind a play.

Despite him, It was odd they were so bad on defense with all the returning players from the prior year.

Bullsh*t. The more a QB rushes the ball, the more times they will fumble (all else being equal). You cannot possibly be suggesting there is no connection between running the ball more frequently and fumbling more frequently.

If you were genuinely interested in intellectual honesty, you wouldn't be comparing Allen to Brady, you would be comparing Allen when he stays in the pocket to Allen when he rushes the ball. Give us that breakdown, then come back and tell us that fumbles and rushing isn't correlated.

NO SH*T SHERLOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

whuh whuh huh? I gave the numbers. Here they are again:

Fumbles each year since 2018:
Allen: 8-14-9-8
Brady: 4-4-4-4

They barely drafted between 2014-2017, they mostly traded out or traded the few draft picks they made.

They didn’t start using that large collection of picks until 2018-2019.

2019’s draft class was a bad one, it wasn’t why they started over in 2020. They were flat broke, 1/4 of their cap was dead money used on 70+ players over the end dynasty… you know, the 4 Super Bowls with 3 rings to show for it.

2021… Where did that money come from? Did they find it in a suitcase on the beach?

That's kinda why I think people are too critical of God. To stop the run requires the right personnel being in the right spot.

Did God have some meh games? He sure did. Was he the sole reason the run D sucked? Absolutely not- especially for DTs he was 7th in tackles.

In the players I mentioned the 02 team had plenty of talent to stop the run and they still got gashed on a regular basis.

Just look at the 03 additions.

Mt. Washington
Ty Warren
Rodney Harrison
Poole (who had an excellent year)
Geno Wilson
A$ante
...and Jarvis had a year in the system and improved.

I expect BB to load up on the D next year in FA and the draft.

2024 Super Bowl Champions. Mac Jones SB MVP.

Peppers and Wilson are going to help the run game a lot this year...

Run D didn't suck by DVOA. 10th in the league. That means that most of the yards given up didn't affect scoring very much.

I respect DVOA as a decent metric but with a 35 yo Anthony Pleasant and Steve Martin doing nothing and guys like Bobby Hamilton, Sey and Rick Lyle playing out of position at NT is not what you want.

Bruschi was out that game, Steve Martin played on roller skates and Ted Johnson was beaten like a rented mule.

Brady rarely maybe never had 8+ lost fumbles.

Now you’re comparing Brady in his 17th to 21st season to Allen in his 1st through 4th.

sigh.

talk about intellectual dishonesty ‍♂️
