OT: Kyler Murray gets paid

That’s not true. Vast majority of NFL teams already sell 95%+ of their total ticket capacity whether or whether not they have a star quarterback, including the Cardinals. In addition, merchandise sales are pooled amongst the 32 NFL times; Cardinals share the profits from those Murray jerseys 32-ways.

No GM is going to stake their job (a job that most only get a couple years and a single-shot at) on doling out huge contracts to sell jerseys lol; they’re signing him because they think they could possibly win a championship with him.
Damm just kicked DKF-Maker's ass.

Kyler Murray will get a LOT of people fired. Most overrated QB in the league and always blames everyone else.

I’m not quite as down on him as this, but I think the result is going to be accurate. Surround him with top skill players and he can win, make him make the most of average skill players and he will fail. I also doubt his leadership skills.

He does some really good things like being accurate when a target is covered but that will play against if in other parts of the field. Probably the fastest QB in the league if they all lined up and ran. Kyler's explosive and got more fast twitch than Jackson but Lamar is more elusive and has good speed after he gets going.
He's definitely above average imo. I think you have like 5-8 QB's than a decent gap / drop to just above average.

I'd even go a step further and say most GM's, if they're not long established, make moves for the purpose of avoiding the basement, rather than reaching the ceiling. You can sell yourself if your team is a low end playoff team for multiple years, but you have one really disastrous season (even if it's partially by design as a rebuild) and you're not likely to see the next year.

This deal kind of falls into that category IMO. It's a LOT of money to give to a guy who has a .500 career record and hasn't won a playoff game yet. But if moving on from him results in a 4-13 season that costs you your job, what choice do you have as a Coach/GM? It may or may not be better for the team long term to take another swing at the position, but even if that works out you're probably not employed to reap the reward.

This is a pretty interesting clause the Cardinals inserted in his contract...

A Homework clause... meaning the Cardinals don't think he does enough to prepare for his games week in week out... per florio, if he doesnt do his "independent study", the Cardinals can void his contract guarantees...

That clause says a **** ton ... Could you imagine plunking 160m guaranteed on the table and having to actually hold your QB's feet to the fire with a clause like that... pretty damning... the phrase "I don't trust you" comes to mind

The phrase "maybe we shouldn't do this" also comes to mind.

Glad he got paid. Feel sorry for the Cards. They aren't going to a Super Bowl with him as QB. jmt.

That clause makes them both look bad. Obviously it makes it look like Kyler isn't putting in the work and it makes the Cardinals look like idiots for paying a guy they don't think puts in the work.
the kicker is its only 4 hours ... i mean its not like they are requiring an extra 2-3 hours a day... wonder how long it is til he breaks this clause...

Yeah, the fact that they put that clause in there screams that it is something that has been a problem.

How they are going to enforce it remains a complete mystery. I mean, even if you lock him in an empty room with just his playbook, you can't force him to digest the info. He could just tune out for a couple hours.

I don't really know how much an extra 4 hours is going help. Also how the hell are they going to track when he hits 4 hours?

But I mean if the contract has a way to void the entire contract is it really guaranteed?
Pretty much every contract has ways to void the entire contract i.e. morals clauses.

The real question is can you enforce such clauses?

We see in the current Watson case that things are not as easy as they seem.

If you say he's immoral because he's getting HJs from massage therapists, he says what about Bob Kraft?

If Murray didn't have the money for good lawyers, he will the instant the check for the signing bonus clears the bank.

He'll find a good way to say he did his four hours a week no matter if he did or did not do his four hours a week.

That's what lawyers get paid for.

You can't be that stupid or ill-informed.

I would imagine the cards will be using anti cheating software ... Stuff developed to track students eyes etc during online exams

Lol that makes this far worse.

That is an interesting philosophical question. IMHO the answer is yes when the voidable clause is completely in the player's control.
