Tyquan Thornton already turning heads in the film room

From my side of the table, there's only one reason to be psyched about Thornton, and it has nothing to do with the Patriots propaganda machine pumping him up to ESPN. The great Greg Cosell loved his college tape and thinks he has what it takes to be an outstanding NFL receiver. That's good enough for me
The 6 time Champion Patriots are an untrustworthy propaganda machine and Greg Cosell is great and couldn’t be wrong. True genius at work in this post.

Who gives a f**k about the film room…can he catch the damn football!? I think I’ve read and listened to endless things about this guy since the draft and not one bit of it is about the most important requirement!
Yep.

Chad Jackson impressed in the film room. So did Dobson.

The kid needs to stay healthy, gain Mac's confidence, get open and catch the ball.

That'll do.

If Harry didn't know the offense he would not have played or lasted 3 years.

Furthermore, many here raved about his blocking which is the primary responsibility for many NFL TEs. Dan Graham was no Ben Coates
Then you tell me why he was constantly late off the snap, couldn't figure out where to line up a bunch, and quit on routes.

We haven't started training camp yet. This is all we have to go on at this point. There is little going on with this forum right now. So I figured I post the story. I realize it doesn’t mean anything if his film room studies don’t translate to his play on the field.

If you want based on his college career, absolutely he can catch the damn football. One of his strengths is that he has sticky hands despite his hand size and a good catch radius. That isn't the reason why he wasn't rated higher in the draft. That was largely because of his frame and concern he won’t be able to shed blocks off the line and match up with physical CBs at the NFL level. But no one is talking about any rookie’s post college catching ability at this point.

You mean that Harry saw 45% of the offensive snaps in 2019, they increased to 69% in 2020 and back to 43% in 2021, but Harry didnt know the offense. Evidently Harry knew where to be to block.

Harry started 4 games in 2021 which is a big deal. Bourne only started 5. Belichick has never given any player playing time. Either they earn it in practice or they sit on Sunday. BB will yank you out for any reason.

This is not a Harry thread. Dude, get your head in the game.

Jimmy G practiced terrible and played pretty good in games.i think Harry practiced good and plays terrible in games. There were multiple times in games where he line up wrong, ran what looked like the wrong route and was slow af to get off the line. Go back and watch him

For all the talk of Harry's lack of speed, the main reasons he didn't work out here was health and having NO grasp of what the offense was asking of him. If Thornton is going to buck the Patriots-drafted WR trend, he'll need to "get" the playbook. Long way to go, but this is a good first step. I'd rather be hearing things like this now (even if it's a fluff piece) than the opposite: "Rumor: Thornton struggling with playbook early".
Premature ejaculation of opinion to follow: the last WR I remember groking the playbook scheme ab initio was The Twig. Temporarily out of work I was at Smithfield a lot and it was apparent that the rook was in tune with the O right from the get go.
That camp Dan Graham displayed hands of stone.

Rookies are in camp. The process begins in the big leagues.

Rookies are in camp. The process begins in the big leagues.

The rookies reported to camp yesterday. They did mostly testing and introductory crap. There were no throwing drills. And since most starting QBs aren't rookies, they may not even had a QB to throw to them. Rookie camp is not training camp. It is for getting the rookies ready for their first camp.

What stands out to me about his game film beyond his height, speed, route running... it's his freakishly long arms.

He plucks balls out of the air that normal guys would have to jump for, which normally would end the play with them falling to the ground or getting hit in midair by a defender.

He catches these high balls and doesn't break stride, which is tough for a CB because if they go for the ball they have to jump, if they play the man, the ball is so high and away they can't reach it. I see a lot of that around his end zone catches as well, his QB throws high and away and instead of jumping he just reaches up and snatches it out of the air keeping both feet inbounds.

People can complain all they want how skinny he is, it won't mean a thing if he can beat press coverage and go. Mac is hyper accurate and this kid has pterodactyl arms.
