Player Signing Patriots Sign Former Saints Receiver Humphrey

What I don't get about this guy is he played for a Saints team that had the worse WR corps in the league, yet he only got 18 targets (#10 on the team). He couldn't beat out guys like Deonte Harty, Ty Montgomery, Trequan Smith?

I wonder if Montgomery had anything to do with his signing since they played together. So now we have two ex-Saints WRs. See above. Why?

Small sample size for sure but 2 things I like here: catch percentage and yard per target...

Comparing that with Harry...

I have heard the same about N'Keal Harry

Harry hasn't been here that long. He's a first round pick who they've had 2.5 years really to evaluate. Very real possibility that they cut bait prior to week 1 this year, but it's not at all unusual for a first rounder to be given three seasons to prove something, especially at WR.

There's always weird cases like Jake Bequette, but this level of cynicism isn't warranted IMO. It's not like the Patriots have this overwhelming reputation of keeping bad players longer than they should. If Humphrey shows nothing, there's no reason to think they'll just keep him for S&G's.

This guy has a really awful name. In fact, never trust players with these names.

Good to great players with horrible names are very rare.

The name fit him about 20 years ago. Obviously he grew out of it.

I'd rather have LJ Humphrey than Ty Montgomery... now that's a dude who really sucks...

How come this goes unnoticed on this board?

It doesn't. It's just a waste of energy to have a strong opinion about a guy who's competing for the last RB spot, or the last WR spot, or a ST role. If people thought Ty Montgomery was coming in to be a bell cow back or our starting slot WR, there would be outrage. But he's not, so there isn't.

Montgomery sucks because you probably have him in the wrong position on your potential roster. Consider him a STer. As was the case with Bolden, he will make the team (or not) as a STer.

As a WR, I would compare his potential role to last year's #5 WR: Gunner, an emergency WR.

I will NOT consider him a "STer"

I am sick to ****ing death of considering otherwise useless ****ing stiffs as "STers"

This roster has PLENTY of other "STers"

What we need are actual "Football Players"

Special teamers are football players.

Special teamers are football players.
Yep, winning isn't about fantasy football. So how much are special teams worth towards a team's success? IIRC, DVOA has special teams worth about 20% of a teams performance. So 40% offense, 40% defense, and 20% special teams. That's all considering impact on winning. So it's worth investing in specialists at reduced rate.

There is less then zero percent chance Montgomery is being considered a WR by the team. He's James White insurance...and even that is sketchy.
