2022 Schedule Coming On May 12 2022 - 8 home and 9 away

His stats say otherwise. If Bill signed him, this board would be saying he’s “elite” all day long.

Front 7 is just as bad as last year.

I think he's very good, but i would not put him in the top 5, which I consider elite (Ramsey, alexander, white, diggs, humphrey, lattimore). And corrnerback stats, particularly interceptions, can be misleading - it suggests that perhaps the other team is throwing to your side a lot. And conversely, just because a CB doesn't have many picks could be because QBs don't throw at his side at all. For example, Jalen Ramsey only had 4 INTs last year, but he's way better than JC Jackson, even though Jackson had 8 INTs.

I'm not referring to just INT's. The guys you mentioned (Diggs and Lattimore) got lit up by WR's. In fact, Lattimore has been rough the last two years. Howard should replace one of these guys. Diggs faired well in low QB rating, but he gives up a lot of yards. Lattimore gave up the 2nd most TD's.

Jackson's rating for QB's when thrown to has been among the best in the years he's been a starting CB.

JC had a better year than everyone mentioned in 2021.

Jackson was best in the NFL for starting #1 CB's for lowest QB rating when thrown to.
2nd in INT's
1st in passes defensed.
Gave up the lowest completion % among starting #1 CB's.
Tied for giving up the lowest TD's among starting #1 CB's.

The board can keep ignoring how good JC actually was. It was when it was rumored he was getting a big pay day was when the board started downplaying him in hopes his value would go down.

13 - 4 frauds. The Pats got blown off the field in the wildcard game.

How is Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Green Bay easier? The Patriots best CB is gone and Malcom Butler is replacing him. The Pats offense will be better and the defense will be worse.
Could we please stop with Malcolm Butler is the only cornerback that the Patriots picked up in the offseason? Please?

The Patriots brought in five Cornerbacks this offseason -Malcolm Butler, Veteran FA Terrance Mitchell, R Marcus Jones, R Jack Jones, and UFA Devin Hafford. They deserve a chance to prove themselves. And the CB picked up from the Ravens in camp last year who played at Ohio State, Shaun Wade, has real potential.

And let's not just blow off the untested CBs like they are nobody. Malcolm Butler came out of nowhere.

I have a hard time blaming anyone who's not bullish on this group, given there are a LOT of unknowns here. Jon Jones (assuming health) and Mills are proven guys here. Butler is as well, but needs to show he's still that guy. Everyone else is unproven in the league, or unproven on the Pats. There are a lot of questions to answer before we can get a good read on this group.

That said, I think there's reason for optimism that we have a deeper group than last year. Talent at the top will obviously be less without Jackson, but one of the goals is to prevent a situation again where we have Myles Bryant and Vincent Busby playing 40+ snaps against the Bills late in the season. Hopefully each of these guys' floor is higher than that.

If they succeed in shoring up the CB depth, then with the addition of Peppers to the safety group and (hopefully) more speed at LB, they'll have some options to defend the top WR's through scheme and not worry about 1 on 1's against the Isaiah MacKenzie's of the world.

I'm optimistic that the jones we drafted are quite talented. They have challenges, but they are both very fluid and have the ability to be able to stick with their assignments. If Jon Jones is back in form, and Butler is anything like his old self, they'll be pretty good. Of course I'm a homer, never saw anything wrong with cheering on the team.

Who was the last NE drafted CB that stepped up huge in his rookie season?

JC Jackson only started 5 games and slowly transitioned into a shut down CB. When there is nobody developing in the DB pipeline ready to start, the Pats bring in Vets like Gilmore, Talib, and plug them in while rookies sink or swim. Even if the inexperienced 2022 rookies started somehow they would get burnt to a crisp highlighting my point about the NE pass defense as a liability.

I would rather face the music now. Butler hasnt played in over a year and Mitchell is depth. Revis had his growing pains in year 1 and these rookie DBs are not only going start, but be great?

I am bullish on our CB group and a part of it is because of our safety group this year. DMac, Dugger, Phillips, Peppers, and Bledsoe. And these guys will be dropping in the box now and then too. It is going to be a collective team effort this year, but I see this being a solid unit in the 2nd half of the season following some growing pains.

Pats have the 16th hardest schedule this year (middle of the pack). Tampa has the 4th hardest lol.

Ive seen awful NE secondary's before - Hobbs, Wheatley, Dennard, Arrington. 10 yard cushion Pats CBs where average QBs look like Joe Montana. The NE defense could not get off the field. 3rd down was a pass play and a fresh 1st and 10. It got a little better with Talib, but not quite there yet.

Im surprised how some folks have forgotten the dark days of the Pats pass defense.

When Revis finally arrived the 10 year Lombardi drought was over. To win you need either a great CB in this league or a great QB who can match the points that your defense gives up. To win Lombardi's you need both. A great CB can work by himself allowing double coverage in other areas. Jackson, Revis, Law all could handle things alone. The Pats do not have a guy like that anymore and now its time for experimental pass defense.

Looking at this roster it’s clear we need more difference makers. We have a lot of solid players. There are no Seymours, McGinests, Laws, Hightowers, Gilmores, Gronks on the roster. Much less concerned about the offense since there are very few holes there. But in D we always had those one or two guys that dominated.

Not sure he was the last one but Malcolm Butler stepped up in the hugest way his rookie year. It was glorious!

I agree that the CB group has an excellent chance of having success due to the depth, experience and thunder that the safeties can bring, especially Dugger, Peppers and Adrian Phillips.

Keep an eye on safety Brenden Schooler, a undrafted free agent signee who is an all-round football player. He played wide receiver at Oregon and Arizona before transferring to Texas for his post-graduate fifth season. Good hands, great instincts, and incredibly versatile.

One other change is the increased speed of the LB group. 2019 was the last time we saw Hightower, Collins and Van Noy at their best and leading in tackles, so moving on was a good thing. This next group has loads of potential and much to prove. When the Bills picked apart the Patriots at the end of the season, I saw a brilliant game plan by the Bills to go after an aging LB group in the air and on the ground. It pulled the safeties up and left the corners exposed.

The addition of Mack Wilson puts another instinctive Alabama kid at the second level with Judon and Bentley in a base 4-3 with several talented young backups pushing them for a staring spot. Jerod Mayo was on one of the podcasts recently talking about that group of guys including Raekwon McMillan, Josh Uche, Anfernee Jennings, Cameron McGrone, and Ronnie Perkins. All of those guys came from big-time programs (Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, Oklahoma) and excelled due to their speed. A younger, faster, linebacking crew was a critical need last season. It will be interesting to see how that shakes out this year.

I'll be interested to see how many teams we play coming off a bye this year. We've been getting screwed in that department.

I guess this is the official schedule thread.

I've seen two week 1 rumors: Pats-Jets SNF and Pats-Raiders. Pats-Jets would be a really weird opener for SNF.

I'd love to see Pats-Raiders

Rumors for our schedule so far:

Week 1: @ Jets
Week 2: @ Raiders SNF
Week 4: @ Packers 4:25 (CBS)
Week 5 vs Lions 1PM Eastern (Fox)
Week 14: @ Cardinals
Week 15: vs Ravens 4:25 (CBS)
Week 16: @ Steelers 4:25 (CBS). If true I wonder if this game and Ravens are national games.

Also found a leaks tracker Google sheet being updated as they come in.
