Roster Acquisitions - Next Step: Defense

That's not what his snaps show. He's only 215 #s. Our lightest LB is Hall at 235 #s.

McMillan is another one. Defensive snaps:

2018 - 76%
2019 - 58%
2020 - 16%
2021 - 0%

The only thing these guys have in common is they can't stay on the field.
In 2020, he played 383 snaps in the box, 143 as a S.

He played 6 games in 21.

You want to call him a safety, go ahead. The pats can keep him up near the line as often as they want. As Ring6 told you, discounting edge, the Pars turn a ton with 1 LB. Peppers and Dugger will make that even easier now. Third and ing, you can put Peppers/McGrone/Dugger across the second level.

Tons of speed and Peppers is a really good blitzer.

yes, there are relative weakness at CB, OLB and DT.

I am certainly willing to be corrected. However, as I recall, you stated the same weaknesses last year, and before the draft.

I would add EDGE as a weakness. CB might be ok with a 3rd and 4th round pick plus the kid from the Ravens last year - we will cross our fingers. OLB could be OK if Perkins and Uche can play, but there are real doubts about that.

Agreed. I worry about EDGE and DT. Would really like Flowers and Hicks plus a real fatty in the middle (no idea where to get the fatty this late).

Right, and teams will run it down our throats.

2020: 57 tackles (solo). 2.5 sacks
He's listed as a Safety. He's the size of a safety. He's got the tackles of a DB.

I am slightly concerned with our LBs, mainly because of the unknown. Bentley is what he is. Mack is a solid addition and hopefully McGrone is who they think he is. The Edge opposite Judon worries me more. Hoping Perkins and/or Uche are ready for a bigger roles. Interior DL run defense is another bigger issue for me. Godchaux should not be our primary NT. He is a good rotational piece, but he does get moved around a bit. Need an anchor that clogs **** up.

I expect both McMillan and Peppers to make solid contributions as LB's.

in what way? coverage? blitzing off the edge? I don't see either one as any kind of deterrent to Josh Allen breaking the pocket and tearing this ridiculous secondary to shreds...again...and again...and again...you have to SHOW me...I don't live in fantasy land.

Yes, Allen had a great couple of games against the Pats last year. Particularly the playoff game…where Dugger played hurt, Mills didn’t play, Jon Jones was of course out, and McCourty, HT, Van. Noy all looked like they had played too many snaps. Oh, and Barmore was hurt.

So they had JC (who had hurt his elbow a couple of weeks previous), Bryant, who got smoked repeatedly, and Williams.

And Allen was on a role - ask KC.

Pats fans are starting to sound like Sam Darnold after his ghost encounters. Sometimes great players just get into the zone, and that Pats D, particularly the secondary, was battered by that point.

Buffalo is the top of the AFC right now, in my opinion. They’ve built one hell of a team.

Keep improving, let Mac grow, if he’s really the guy, and the Bills will come back to Earth soon enough, particularly if Allen keeps thinking he’s Earl Campbell.

Still not seeing where they will generate more pass rush from players not named Judon. Hopefully Judon can put together a full season, for that matter. A lot of TBD with this roster on defense.

While the secondary might not have that ace CB1, it seems like it should be a pretty versatile group. Having J. Jones back is big. Duggar should continue to improve and be a tone setter.

Improvements in run D is another TBD, especially along the DL. Guy has been a great add, but fell off a bit last year and his best days are behind him. Wise is the definition of mediocre. Does Anderson have anything left/will he play at a decent level if he does? Anticipate Barmore should improve on run D and be an every down type of player out there. A toilet clogger at NT to pair him with would be welcome, as would be a player who can set the edge. On another note, not that Richard Seymour’s grow on trees, but this team could use a poor man’s version of him.

Agree. If there is not more of a plan with the DL it might be a long season.

oh please...just stop the end of the season woes crap...you seriously think Trent Brown and Isaiah Wynn are going to play more than 8 games apiece this coming season? Some rookie from Bohump St. in Nowheresville Tenn. is going to "LOGAN MANKINS UP!" when he's on tape getting obliterated by BACKUP DT's at the Senior Bowl practices? Oh wait...we'll match Buffalo's PERFECT 8-8 TD offense with our new 5'8" superstar's kickoff returns, that's it!!! Uh...but correct me if I am seeing different things the past few seasons than the rest of the Pom Pom Paulies around here....don't most kickoffs go in the end zone these days only to be PLACED AT THE 25??? So he's a punt returner then, huh? Great....Buffalo didn't even punt ONCE the last time we faced them..BRILLIANT!

I'm hoping BB is active in free agency before the preseason starts because if THIS is the core idea headed into this season it could end in disaster.

You expect or you hope. McMillan has a record and it's hardly inspiring. Peppers is a Safety. He's way too light to be a LB and often injured.

Didn’t address our biggest need in LB. Downgraded at CB, McCourty’s a year older. Can we make the Bills punt this year? Not so sure.

Collier’s trade value is maybe as low as it could get. Take a swing at him for a late conditional pick? Is he even a scheme fit? They may just cut him..

Another thread where people try to gaslight readers into getting excited about a LB group that might be worse than the 2020 COVID-ravaged linebacker group.

Gaslight? That's a very specific set of manipulations. What's happening here is nothing more than people stating a position and perspective.

Devin Bush is an interesting option.

He's been horrible for Steelers, other than in his rookie year, when he was just ok. A good friend is a Steelers fan and he can't stand the dude. Ever since he came back from injury, he just doesn't want any contact at all. The play below is typical.

Yeah, he'd be a terrible option.

The run defense is going to be very bad. Even if they play their big safeties we need a legit nosetackle... This has been an issue since brady left. Cant believe it hasn't been addressed
