2022 PTP Draft Board / Pats Draft Talk

@BaconGrundleCandy
Good evening CGC! I was wondering what your thoughts are on Penn State DE Arnold Ebiketie. I haven’t really heard much of anything regarding him. Seems like a really underrated player; solid against the run & a pretty good pass rusher. Kinda reminds me of Trey Flowers with his build, long arms & large hands. Thanks in advance!
Little different, player, Flowers could really carry his weight. He was 262-265 I believe? Ebiketie is only around 250, not maxed out but close imo. Which ain't bad 255-260 is perfectly acceptable, I think he can get there.

He has a great jump and significant closing speed. I bring up the word "juice" a lot and he's got it. Just has that suddenness, that quickness you need off the edge or in a short area. He can propel it forward and really move laterally too. He loves rushing inside off a jab step or another counter. Looks like a natural standup 34 OLB. Works off rip inside and swipe outside and uses his quicks to overwhelm at times. He could set up his steps and strides better. Has some flexibility to reduce the surface area a tackle can touch. He has to add to his tool box in terms of moves. Has to add a change up to his speed but he can cross face and win inside. Still add and refine there. Including strides and steps. Also max him out at around 260 that would help a good deal with his speed to power and 34 + arms don't hurt. Go study with Chuck Smith for a summer or two for his hands.

He's got a little versatility but mainly a standup rusher. Looks like a typical Raven or Steeler who hasn't hit the juice yet. Has rushed from 4/5T but he's mainly a standup edge.

He has to play with more patience in the run game he was too often he works against himself giving up a good angle or position wanting to make a tfl or no gain instead of just standing his ground for a 2 yard gain. Some of that is his weight. Some of that is he's still learning how to play proper run defense which is understandable. He's improved through. His discipline and eyes staying in the backfield have improved since Temple.

This could be a good comp??

Just saw this ...

If Wyatt fell to the Pats, I think they'd have numerous teams on the phone trying to trade for the pick..
At 21? Was anyone expecting him to go before 21?

Think I’d pass on Devonte Wyatt.
HARD PASS based on those reports.

Let's just move back a bit and take Uconn DL Travis Jones. He's the immovable object the DL needs that will make everyone better. One of BB's best defenses featured an immovable object type in Ted Washington.

I think if we don't get a premium guy fall to us at 21, BB will likely move back.

If Jordan davis or penning is on the board at 21, we run that card up to the podium.

Otherwise, I would be happy to trade back and take jones, if we get a sweet trade offer.

Anybody like CIN WR Alec Pierce?
Does a Bear crap in the woods?? Some think he could be better than Jordy Nelson. I like him very much he needs to add to his route tree but he'll have plenty of time to get that down.

Think the Pats would have to think long and hard about that one?

My pro comp for him is Kupp

Mine is Jordy Nelson. Yes it’s easy to connect the two because of skin color, but their deceptive speed, underestimated physicality and size, along with above Avarage outside the numbers awareness and ball tracking, is what connects the dots for me I think GB would be smart to acquire him.

Things that make me take a second look. Incredibly similar numbers. @BaconGrundleCandy do you have notes on Waletzko?

Planning on sharing more thoughts on each group in the individual threads but he's been on my board for a while now.

Big project. He knows what to do but can't put it all together. Sometimes you watch guys play or girls in other sports. You watch them and see "OK they know what to do" but the competition shows up too, technique isn't quite there, they might just be limited in certain areas.

With Waletzko it's a little bit of everything above. First he has to get stronger. Weight isn't the only issue with his body. He could obviously put on 10lbs no problem but he has to get stronger. Bend is an issue too, he'll get too front loaded at times trying to sustain blocks. He's just be limited there. I think he'll always play a bit high and until he puts on some weight and gains better grip strength he'll struggle to sustain blocks. He very good at the poa but struggles to sustain at times. If he gets caught off guard and isn't quite squared up and had some leverage he can end up on the ground. Very good mentality and attitude with athleticism you can bet on.

Very good run blocker particularly in zone as I alluded to above he has trouble sustaining blocks, moving his feet, coming off in good position. He's very good on combos, locating a target although his placement on some could improve. He can move though.

Pass pro is a different story. His slide is inconsistent which leaves him too narrow or off a bad angle against power. Hes up & down in terms on consistency but he needs to get stronger. Core strength is definitely lacking. Unless it's a fastball down the middle he has trouble generating torque and that'll be an issue with the way guys move and how strong they are next level. Has trouble controlling his man on the arc. At times it'll be his feet they won't be completely under him. Or he'll be a little too front loaded.
His hands are good inconsistent but potential is there. They're not as efficient as they could be he bites in faints or just whiffs but he's got decent grip strength. And punch that'll knock you back.. Enough to latch on and move you again holding that movement and momentum isn't always easy and again I don't have to tell you about how strong guys are next level and how they move.

He's a bit of a project in pass pro and has to get stronger and play with more discipline in the run game. He's a nice project in the 6th-7th RD imo.

Beautiful little guy btw. I think that got cut out of my last reply. Hope everyone is healthy and well. You have the right idea, family first.

The key for Wyatt though he does have a history could be a strict discipline environment like ours Patriots way?? IF we stay Pat let's say a DB or LB in the First. Then Wyatt @ 54 might be really tempting he wouldn't cost us anything. Wyatt could release his hostility no pun intended on the middle of the OLine.

I think realistically at 21, we could potentially be looking at : Jameson Williams, Jordan Davis, Chris Olave, Devin Lloyd, Nakobe Dean, Andrew Booth Jr., Devonte Wyatt, Jermaine Johnson and Charles Cross. Although I think it is probable that Johnson, Davis and Jameson will go between 15-20 which then begs the question, do we trade up and lose draft capital to draft one of those players. I'm not so sure we do that.

I still think a trade back is a definite possibility as well. Going to be a very interesting draft.

I think jermaine Johnson and Charles cross are long gone by the time it gets to us. They will go even before Davis. I'd look at the Chiefs as a possible trading partner. If they give us #29 or 30 AND #50 or 62 for #21, then I'd go for it if I were BB. KC is desperate to replace Tyreek Hill and could be looking at jumping ahead of GB, who is also wants a WR.
