2022 PTP Draft Board / Pats Draft Talk

After reading about this story on ESPN about Karlaftis, he's intriguing.

Still learning the sport, but pretty dedicated. That Water Polo goalie background gets me thinking about a pass rush late in games when people wear down. A world class water polo guy knows how to break through barriers when his body is telling him he can't.

Not really much surprising from Pioli here, but thought it might be useful anyhow.

I thought that was rather strange. If they are going to use a first-round pick, I'd assume that they would be concerned about character and reliability whatever the position. Why especially with linemen?

The Bolden attention isn't really any different than Malcolm Perry a couple years ago, just for different reasons. They weren't willing to draft Perry, but they jumped at the first opportunity to get him on the roster without having to use a pick (a year later via waivers). They're similar in size, bench, and 40, but Perry did better on the jumps while Bolden wins in the 10 and 20 splits, shuttle, and 3 cone. Seems like a relevant comparison since they'd be competing with each other this offseason if Bolden ends up with the Patriots.

Really like Perry, would love to see him find a role here.

Given the way the board seems to be heading in the 1st I would be really happy with Wyatt or Daxton Hill at #21.

For whatever strange reason a lot of GM’s get Madden Eyes before the draft. Thinking that with their system, their guys, their room they can mold an athlete into a star. Like in madden. I think because the linemen are less eye popping in their measurables than say a freak outside linebacker or QB they stick to the more foundational evaluations.

Wow. The pats met with a player. BIG NEWS FOLKS. slade bolden must be the next edleman and welker!!!

Seriously. Keep posting and showing that you don't deserve to be here. Because all you've done is shown your ignorance to this point.

I don't know of ANYONE on the forum who has said that Bolden is the Next Welker/Edelman. What I DO know is that Bolden has stated that he models his game after Edelman and that Bill O'Brien has stated that he used Bolden similar to how he used Welker when he (O'Brien) was the OC for the Pats.

Now, if you'd kindly remove your head from your arse before running your mouth further, it would be appreciated.

Wouldn’t be shocked in the least if the pats nabbed him as an UDFA given the connections. But the guy is a fringe prospect.

I think he’s being hyped up on here because he’s white and there’s a stereotype about white receivers and the pats. The chances of this kid doing anything in the nfl are minuscule.

People see white receiver and think the pats can just turn them into a 100 reception a year guy.

You're ignorance is astounding. NO ONE is "HYPING" Bolden. Like AT ALL. Prior to you running your racist mouth, no one had talked about Bolden's race at all.

The only person I've ever seen stereotype Patriots receivers is... well.. YOU.

BTW, It's flat out insulting to everyone else for you to claim that you actually put thought into your racist posts.

Tony Pauline. His record is pretty sketchy when it comes to draft picks.. And you shouldn't put ANY credence into what teams are telling him that their grades are on players. Not this close to the draft. This is exactly when the rumors and disinformation start flying.

My guess is that they want the investment to be there. The LINE is where games are won and lost.

@BaconGrundleCandy what do you have on Dareke Young? Not a lot I could watch, but he looks like a bigger Deebo to me (maybe a little less dynamic and obviously with lesser competition). Not many receivers have his background as a blocker and runner. I get the same kind of vibe from him as his former teammate Dugger: they're too big and fast for D II. Looks like they're playing with peewee players. I'd love to see him here in a role similar to the one Patterson had for his brief Patriots stint.

Despite what I'm told constantly on this board, I do believe players are not giving maximum effort a considerable part of the time. This is why something like bulletin board material is effective, if the player internalizes it. We see less than max effort a lot in other sports, there's no reason why the NFL would be any different.

Maybe this is what Pioli was trying to gauge.

I look at the Patriots - Rams Super Bowl in 2018 and it was clear that so many of our defensive players were amped up like never before. We saw Elandon Roberts knocking all-pros on their butts, our mediocre DL thrashing the Rams O-line, Trey Flowers dominating. I only mention this because it must be hard for scouts and front offices to figure out who is going to battle to the very end when you're tired and exhausted.

I watched the full video on NFL Network the other day, he goes on to talk about how they would, by rule, only draft a WR in the first if they were sure he was intelligent, hard working and dedicated to his craft. He said they got blinded by physical traits (heigh/weight/speed) a few times and it backfired because the players didn't fit in to the culture and lacked the drive and work ethic needed.

Chad Jackson and Bethel Johnson eh?

It's funny you mentioned the search button recently. I knew I had written about him but it wouldn't come up.

This was one of them ...
"Another guy worth mention is Dareke Young from Lenoir Rhyne. Another guy that is a great blocker. Explosive, should test very well at his pro day. He looks like a freak athlete but again we'll see how he test. He takes a lot of pride in his blocking though. Tasked with blocking DE's and bigger bodies regularly. He knows his role. He also spent some time as a RB rushing the ball almost 40 times I believe. Tough kid with a lot of potential as WR3, ST player with a little luck. He should really take to NFL training."

Yeah he knows his role. They ran wing-T and other stuff there that requires dogs at that spot. He lined up in line a bunch. His vision has improved as an open field runner. Honestly would be a project in our system as a WR but he could contribute in several areas right away.

I keep coming back to Velus Jones as well. Plus blockers, could play ST, give some change of pace on offense. Kyle Phillips too. Won't break any records but has a defined role with upside as WR's.

If we could land Travis Jones on a small trade back, James Cook in RD2/3, Paschal 3, one of K Phillips, V Jones, W Robinson, K Shakir or C Austin after RD3 we'd be a very different team imo. I'd still be pumped for Flowers.

I think that's somewhat realistic and again we'd be a much better team.

I don't think that's going to happen
