Wouldn't it be funny if we brought back two disgruntled ex-CBs? And we picked up a 2023 6th to boot.

Dont fall for these. You gotta figure, butler and branch didn’t come back till 4/5 years after their bitter exit. Gilmore aint coming back

Gilmore isn’t coming back. He didn’t leave on good terms and it was less than a year ago.

That’s fine. They’ll pick a corner in a month.

Maybe bb looks at the current state of his cornerback room, gets nauseous and suddenly agrees to welcome back Gilmore!

Yes I want him back but at what price? Anything over 6-8 million is a no from me and I can’t see a former NFL Defensive player of the year taking that sort of blow to the ego. So as others have said no way in hell does it happen as awesome as it would be if it did.

I think he wants to play for a contendah!

On a one year prove it deal sure. He knows that he can play his best football in our system. Maybe he can enter free agency next year and get one last big deal.

I agree that a 1 year prove it deal might make sense. I don't see Gilmore wanting to spend multiple years on the Pats with the salary BB will likely be offering.

Even with the remote possibility that he'd want to come back, they wouldn't come to terms.

See below example (back-up G w/ a $2.4M tender) of how competitive the Pats have been in FAcy.

I'd prefer we look for the next Gilmore.

He would obviously help us at a position of major need. The issue is going to be the money. His market is not what he thought it was, but I'm not sure if we are still going to be able to compete "money wise" with teams like the Raiders and Chiefs, who have expressed interest. I think getting him back is a long shot, but then again, I thought bringing Butler back was never going to happen....so who knows!!!

No, it would suck having the best CB in the league.

he'd play anywhere for the right $$.....they all would, it is a business......there's very, very few situations where a player wouldn't sign somewhere if the money was right

the question is, can both sides get the money right....and that is the ONY question

No, it would be awesome. But we are talking about Gilmore in his current state.

I listened to the talk you're referencing (I think) and it's not really a rumor. It was more a "If Butler came back, anything is possible, so why not Gilmore?" I think if his market is sufficiently low, it could happen, but we're already hearing that the Raiders and Chiefs are talking to him. There will be enough suitors that the bidding will probably get too high. I think the draft is the better route if you're looking for high end talent this year.

Who wouldn’t want a man corner on the wrong side of thirty with a terrible quad tear demanding eight figures guaranteed for an average annual?

I just checked OvertheCap.com. They list the Raiders at 7.4M in cap space and KC at 25.7M. However, when reviewing the Raiders Team page, OTC still has Carl Nassib listed on their roster. Nassib was released on 3/16 at a savings of $8M. I also didn't do a deep dive to see if the page included any other signings that the Raiders might have done.

Looking at the Raiders, they only haver 5 draft picks this year. That will help them because the amount of cap space needed won't be much. However, they also only have 1 Contract that they can reduce the cap hit and that is Derek Carr's. Their other top cap hits were all Free Agents.

The Chiefs, on the other hand, can free up money by reaching a long term extension with Orlando Brown, Jr. their franchised player. Kelce is the only player left where they could free up about $3M in cap savings. So they could easily give Gilmore the money he wants.

Pats currently have 10M in cap space. But they have 7 draft picks (including a 1st) and that will eat into that 10M. They also need 7-8M for in season use. However, the Pats have numerous players they could work with on either extensions (Wynn, H. Henry, Godchaux, Agholor, J. Jones) , trades (Agholor, Meyers), cuts (Agholor, Godchaux, J. Jones) or Salary Conversions (Judon, J. Smith, H. Henry, Andrews, Wise, Mills). Any combination of those could free up more than enough money to add Gilmore if he was willing to come back. If Gilmore isn't signed by the draft, I would expect the potential of his re-signing to be much better.
