Cap went up by 14%
And it will go up at an even higher rate in 2022.

The patriots locked in 2021 prices on several players,

We can still do more if we want this year.

We are very well situated CAPwise for 2023 and 2024.

Is Bill pseudo tanking?

2-15 record would accelerate the rebuild

Is Bill pseudo tanking?
no

You all say this every year we don't spend ginourmous amounts in the first two weeks.

The patriots decided to spend in 2021 for two years' worth of top-level wide receivers.

Marques reasonable KC contract makes It look like Nelson had photos of BB and Kraft running trains at massage parlors.

Top level receivers?? You know that is not trueReply

OK, you think that the top 15 WR's in the league are top level.

I take you correction.

I look back to 40 years of patriot play and I am fine calling Agholor and Bourne top wide receivers. Not the very top. But I will FIX the post to take out the word "wide"

The team has often won with players that no one in the league considered top 15 receivers other than patriot fans.

Most of those contracts were short term. Is Jonnu a Top 5 TE?

The only season why you'd love for both those players to be extended is because nobody wants them. I am sure BB have tried to move them both but no takers at their price points. You think 473yds Agholor enticed McDaniels I am sure when BB called he hung up phone. Those are horrible contracts for those players I will Never justify them not even in my dreams.
The Chiefs just gave $30 million to a guy who's averaging just over 500 yard per year since he came into the league and never hit 700 in four years with Aaron Rodgers throwing to him and Devante Adams taking the number 1 CB (and safety help) in every game.

Karras, a journeyman guard who wasn't even tagged as a starter last year, just got Godchaux money...to play a far less valuable and far more easily substituted position.

At this point, I'll just chalk it up to you not having a clue what you're whining about. Your dreams are stuck in 2015 $$$.

I want those guys extended to lower their cap hits and to keep them around, because both are valuable assets. Agholor is not a #1WR and Godchaux is not a true 2-gapping NT - and NEITHER are paid enough to be those things. Put a true #1 on the field with Agholor and he becomes way more valuable. Put a Jordan Davis-type true NT next to Godchaux, and he becomes way more valuable.

Sorry but there's a difference between having TFB throwing to those mid-level receivers and having a 2nd year QB (aside from the great rookie season he had) do it.

We need to begin to look at this team as starting from scratch. Having guys like Slater and McCourty on the team doesn't make it equivalent to the dynasty teams from 4 to 8 years ago or beyond. The dynasty is dead. Anything and everything that happened in the past is null and void. Every year is a new season from now on until we put together another team that can contend in the Division, nvm about the Conference and the League.

Imo we're just not there yet. So, yes we need better receivers than in the past if we hope to become contenders.

I'd be fine with an Agholor extension.

The coaches and staff know whether Godchaux is worthy of being our starter for the next 3-5 years. I suspect that we will have a 2nd round draft choice at his position. HOWEVER, having Godchaux extended would be good news to me. It would mean that Godchaux is one of the front for the future (with Barmore).
Of all their DLs right now: Cowart, Godchaux, Guy, Wise, Barmore, Anderson, Ekuale, and Murray, the only one I'd keep over Godchaux is Barmore.

I had high hopes for Cowart, but he hasn't lived up to the potential. Guy seems to be on the downside at 32 (5 years older than Godchaux), Wise can't do the things Godchaux can do in the middle. Anderson might be done (hope not - loved his game a couple of years ago), and who knows with Ekuale (I do like him), and Murray?

What were Jonnu's PFF numbers the season before? I would be pretty shocked if he doesn't have a better second season than first season.

not sure if the was already discussed, this thread is huge. I just read Ronnie Harrison Saftey for the browns is a free agent. just 24yrs old. Alabama alum. I think he would be a great pickup. wondering what thoughts the forum has?

Right now, you look at Smith and think this signing was Baaaaaaaaaaaad.

Throw him the ball, let a few of those big plays not get called back on ticky-tack holding calls, like last year, and all can be forgiven. The guy can fly. He didn't suddenly forget how to play football.

Note that the FB is out now. I expect that means Jonnu is going to get his chances this year.

Well he start from so low that it would be quite an accomplishment to not have a better year
