DRAFT 2022 PTP Draft Board / Pats Draft Talk

Not to bring up the past, but I wonder what the Pats would've done with that 2016 pick - Hunter Henry? Chris Jones? Xavien Howard? Derrick Henry? Michael Thomas? Or maybe just screw it up and pick Cyrus at #29 instead of #60?

I had wanted Myles Jack when he fell to 29. But that‘s just me. There has been talk that the Pats were interested in Su’a Cravens who was “expected“ to be late 1st/early 2nd but actually was taken at 53. That would have wound up as a disaster….

“There is willingness to bend” at LB. Still looking for same demeanor, physical presence but know they need to get more athletic. Josh Allen blew TF up and turned into everything every one wanted and hoped Cam would be. He still has spurts but he's really improved his placement and general accuracy. His footwork has really stood out to me. At times he would get stuck in the mud. Feet would stop and it would kill him. He's improved and proved many wrong including me (I had a 2nd on him) but obviously he's made some impressions at Gillette.

Worth a listen.

Not sure if this is the way they're going but if so, I like it.

Mayo mentioned the need for the D to get faster. Maybe BB listened.

Need a NT w/ first pick for this to work.

Mentions Anthony Barr as PTP LB but has since re-signed w/ MIN.

I wonder if Steve Nelson is a good UFA CB target since he's better in zone. He's still out there.

Not to burst anyone's bubble about the 2016 draft but I recall Mike Reiss saying they liked Vernon Butler if they had kept the 29th pick.

I would've taken Myles Jack too, as would have others in the draft forum at the time IIRC...

@BaconGrundleCandy Maybe I missed the discussion earlier, but could you let me know what notes you have on Zach Tom? He seems like the ideal guard prospect for us in the mid rounds. Agile, fluid pass protector, maybe a little undersized, but with positional versatility, from a program we've drafted from previously. You've likely reviewed a lot more than I have, though, and I'd to hear what you have to say.

From my notes
- do they feed him?? maybe a bit high-cut - body can handle a makeover. has to put on some size.
- uses independent hands well! Could put more force behind them but he throws them like a great jab with good placement. Fires them out at times. Little more punch and he's got something big time.
- easy mover - slides with ease. great job positioning him from second to second block to block. Quick light feet and fluid hips. Gap to gap, climbing 2nd-3rd level he's there off running. Impressive work and potential 2nd 3rd level.
-quick slide, plus depth that leaves him in good position to stay level with his man. everything works in unison for the most part. frontloaded at times off speed. anchor was good enough but NFL power will be a problem off the edge. Like the way he positions himself inside against bigger bodies.
-patience and awareness are there big time. has to be a smart kid.
-he survives balance wins out even if he's a little frontloaded or gets beat initially.
-has to bring more force and power in his game.

In real time now, I believe he's good enough to play tackle but not sure of his size tbh. Comparing to Wynn, Wynn was stronger and a little more put together. Whereas Tom looks barely 300. Wynn Interesting thought on G though. Think he played a handful of snaps at RT but primarily LT & C. Quite the combo you just don't see that but there should be no reason why he couldn't pick up G over a year and half. I don't say that lightly. It's incredibly hard to switch positions but I'm sure he has practice reps there and again he played like 1800 snaps at LF and 15000 at C and played both extremely well. That's not easy and he waltzed through it. And whether it was C or T he did a great job mirroring, staying square, getting underneath IDL or cutting off the edge outside. Fun prospect who's future will probably be made or not by coaching, good overall program that can put some size on him. And develop those traits to their conclusion.

Yeah he might be one of the most athletic OTs in the draft outside of the more well-known Day One-caliber prospects... MUCH more athletically gifted than Herron with probably about the same stoutness (which isn't good), so that will need to be monitored... He didn't lift at the combine (another flag) but he absolutely nailed the rest of the events... His arms/wingspan are right at the edge of minimum standard for Tackle, but he also has the big mitts to help keep the other guy in front of him longer... I will be Very interested in watching his pro day at the end of the month, especially to see how much he weighs and how much he lifts (if he does), because I wouldn't rule him out yet as a possible LT option near the end of Day 3/early Day 4...

Also when you hear "no way he gets out the top ten" it's coming from a team with a top ten pick. I'm just a dumb farmer though what do I know.

You guys are going to kill me, but don't think that Metchie is second round material. From what I saw on tape, he does not have elite elusiveness or top end speed. He would be a good late round choice; I would not take him before round 4 or 5.

Gotta be honest I don't think he would be an upgrade over Agholor. Agholor takes allot of heat on this board but he was open allot last season in an offense that several vets have struggled with. I think he is going to make big strides in year 2.

I do like the Mac-Metchie chemistry but his skill level is average based on the games I have watched.

Danny Gray has my eye. I like him late.

I like him early! I was watching some highlights, and I said to myself, "WOW, who is this guy?" His seems to have incredible speed on the field, Jameson Williams speed. He ran away from CBs but these were not SEC CBs, still it was impressive. Hard to say if he has good moves, and he did not do the three-cone drill at the Combine which is a little suspicious. He is big which usually means slow but not in his case. I don't know what his level of competition was, but he looked great. He appears to be a showboat; BB will not like that. Second or third round? I saw him covered on one play but still make the TD grab, unlike our very own Harry who was covered on every play. Seems like a poor-man's Jameson Williams.

I really want the Patriots to draft a jitterbug like Calvin Austin III in round 3, but Danny Gray, a different type of WR would work also

If we can sign an FA edge player to pair with Judon, we should be able to overcome CB shortcomings . Use the second round pick on Gordon or mcreary If available . The more I read and watch about the Houston kid Marcus Jones, he screams patriots to me. So he / Tariq woolen could be the other options at CB.

That is the big question!!! What will BB do if Williams is there at 21? I suspect that BB trades down unless the big galoot NT (Jordan Davis) from Georgia is available.

I know all us draftnix will be screaming and tearing our hair out (what's left of it), but since the CB and WR class is deep, this strategy might work. And it might not; BB has had a appalling record recently, except for last year.

Is Bill going to try and play catch up to the firepower currently in the AFC or is he going to continue to build a ball control offense and a D capable of turnovers and slowing down the opponents O (which, obviously, they didn’t do at the end of last year.)

I've been a fan of Gray and Robertson for a few years especially Gray though. He's got a track background and also plays ST's which might be a bigger need than some think. I wouldn't call him "big" though, 6'/185-190 soaking wet. Just makes the cut-off there.

2nd is too rich imo. Wait to the 3rd, see where guys like Austin, Robinson etc end up. Then you have Phillips & Covey types who might be available later.

I agree though and have been saying as much all last year. This team needs an "easy button" water bug that can get open and win quick. Whether its Austin, Robinson, Phillips or w/e doesn't matter. This group isn't bad but we're missing that quickness in the MOF on those option routes, juke routes etc. That and a true X but either would go a long way.

What is your opinion on Mike Harley out of miami? He’s a speedster that seems to have good hands.

The more I see the draft mocks and the quarterback carousel very few teams would want to trade up . We would be lucky if we find a trade partner for 21 unless Detroit is interested in pick 21 to draft a QB. Panthers will draft Pickett. Whoever likes Malik Willis and if available at 21 would be our trade partner. Seattle, lions seem like good prospects .

Stay at 21 if either Jordan Davis or Trent McDuffie or Williamson is available. Else trade all the way to 40. 45-80 has pretty good talent .
