Patriots hosting Malcolm Butler for a tryout

Well, he would probably be a camp body at this point. Why not take a flyer on a guy that knows the organisation? No risk here.

I don't know how likely it is that Butler has enough left to really help, but this is 100% a story I'm rooting for. Will always love this guy for SB49, and for that he deserves every kick at the can he can get.

I wish someone besides Trollin' Volin had broken this. Feels like a set up.

He signed for $3.25M from the Cardinals before taking the year off instead, so I don't think we'd be talking about a major investment here.

Pass.

I know it's righting a wrong but I think we can do better than that.

Could maybe be a JMac-tier stopgap at the position. I doubt much risk would be involved, so it's hard to get mad about.

If he signs here, I will not know what to think any more about his benching. One, he is willing to come back to this same group that treated him like that and two, this same group that treated him like that want him back. What the hell????

This whole situation has become the JFK assassination.

There is nothing to think about.

Malcolm wasn't 100% physically and mentally ready to play and the coaching staff made a decision.

At the time Malcolm was pissed but admitted that to be the case.

Thats all it was and all it will ever be.

What it tells me is that, on some level, Malcolm understood why he was benched. I'm sure he didn't agree with the extent of the punishment (and it certainly doesn't make it the right move), but it wasn't something that came out of nowhere for him. That or he has literally no other options and this is his only real chance to keep playing. An extra million bucks can make people swallow a lot of pride.

It would be a nice homecoming story, but I'm just not sure the 32yr old is still fast enough to start. We have a bunch of JAGs, we need a true #1.
