Player Signing Pats bringing back Bentley

The worse 108 Tackles ever camp fodder color me not impressed.
Cousin, I have to agree.
Bobby Wagner for some more money! Makes more sense. This kid had only a 68.1% PFF rating. He might be slow , but he can't cover either. He was rated as the #42 best linebacker. Van Noy, Hightower and Collins were rated higher......what?
Denver's Alexander Johnson is available as an inside backer and is rated at #10. 81% PFF rating.
League minimum please for #8.

So looks like we are all in on big slow LBs for 2022.
On the one hand I understand that Bentley is a reliable tackler. On the other hand our linebackers are way too slow for the modern NFL. See how we got destroyed by the Bills in the postseason just last year. Hopefully this is just a depth signing for not too much money. We really need to improve our linebacker speed as a group. This move doesn't do it.

There are a few posters here that we may want to keep an eye on. Reach out to their loved ones, make sure they're checking in regularly, etc.
Wait till the oversized contract $$$ gets announced....

If he was limited to just obvious running plays then, OK I guess it’s fine. But I’ll start taking bets now that Week 1 we are gonna see his slow ass going torched in coverage…

I would think our defense would look like this currently...expect more changes before the season starts:

EDGE: Matt Judon
NT: Davon Godchaux
DT: Christian Barmore
EDGE: J. Uche / D. Wise
LB: Raekwon McMillan
LB: J Bentley
CB: Jalen Mills
CB: T. Mitchell / J. Williams
Slot: J. Jones
S: Kyle Dugger
S: Devin McCourty
S: A. Phillips
I puked in my mouth a bit looking at those LB’s/CB’s.

Biggest thing about Bentley is that he was our best run stopper, period. If we had a DT who is worth a damn closing gaps regularly, so no Godsucks and whoever else, he would look a lot better instantly, imo

He might get similar money to Wise, as they're both about the same level of okay at their position.

This is exactly my thought with the whole off season right now. Ok, Pats are making "processual" moves if you will. But what about the moves that are suppose to impact both sides of the ball?

Unless we are hitting reset for the next couple of years and just have a very young "talented" team on rookie deals?

Which we all know BB is not the greatest at building completely through the draft.

Bentley led the team in tackles by a wide margin. For whatever that's worth. He's a more useful re-sign than McCourty in deep center. Or Slater for his 0.64 tackles per game.

Any word on the money?

Hope the injured Michigan kid stays healthy and beats him out it shouldn't take much in TC.

This is right, but why limit it to the injured MI kid? Let's hope we hit with all of our young linebackers, like McGrone or Jennings or another we draft in 2022. Also with the lighter faster "outside" guys like Perkins, McMillan, Wilson, and Uche. Lots of young guys and one veteran seems like a good thing to me.

See this is where I think we have different definitions of "need". Need to me is a position where we don't have any competent starter level players. DT has three of them. You may want better ones, but that position is filled going into the season. ILB has one player we know can work. Same with the Edge. Corner has Mills above his station, so is probably two short really. Those are needs to me. DT is a "nice to have".
Mills is serviceable as a cb. Teams could run against the patriots.

If you don't like Bentley, I'm not sure any amount of money is good, but that seems about right to me.
i agree. Ultimately i’m going to guess 2.5-3m per in base and the rest incentives, which would be a very reasonable deal. But people will see this and say “$4.5m a year for him?”….

Thats decent, better than wises deal iirc

Is it coincidence the Bentley deal happened the same day Vander Esch became unavailable?
