This is my hunch . The teams that make huge trades or outlandish offers are teams with a very proven Star QB and few key all pro personnel around whom you can build a team and hence mortgage the future for few years of awesomeness.
As for us, Mac is still not a proven commodity and is not setting the stage on fire. Nor do we have other worldly talents or all -pro in the mix. We need some time and patience to allow our team to settle in and find the superstars/ all pros around whom we can build the team. For now it looks like the core pieces are Mac, Judon, barmore, Rhamondre, dugger , Harris, Bourne, J Jones and a certain extent Hunter Henry and potentially Onwenu . That's it.
And we are completely decimated on defense and offense . So we need this season to polish the existing core and find more hidden gems ( McMillan, Uche,Jonnu, agholor, wade, Mills)
Till we do that expending future cap space on new veteran additions is useless. I hear that the cap will explode , but we can possibly take better advantage of it by timing it when our strengths and stars align.
This year sadly as a pats fan is going to be a pretty tough one. But we might find the additional pieces to form a stronger and bigger core around whom we can develop into a stronger unit.
Mac becomes more accustomed to operating in pressure . The cornerbacks step up in anticipation etc. It does sound too optimistic, but unless we try how can we sure. We are not tanking this year, whilst at the same time we might not over extend.
