Patriots Player Departure Chase Winovich traded for Mack Wilson

Nagging shoulder and knee injuries. Seems to be active (negatively) in social media. Last year of deal, reclamation project. Hopefully coming to NE will give him the kick in the ass that he needs. Gonna miss Wino for what I’d hoped he would’ve become, not what he actually was.
That last sentence sums it up perfectly for lots of us.

I liked Wynovich but he couldn’t stop the run to save his life. Don’t know much about Wilson.
Neither can Chandler Jones and he has been pretty successful. I don’t think Wino is that level of pass rusher but sometimes I just wish we could let a guy be good at one thing instead of average at a bunch.

The Pats traded Wino who was making 1.4 mil (@$250,000 in dead money and a cap savings of $965,000) for Wilson who is making 2.4 mil.

So the trade adds about 1.6 mil to the Pats cap

I remember him at Alabama well. 5 star recruit from a very tough upbringing who seemingly had turned it around from his (very early) trouble filled youth. Very fast and athletic, a great cover linebacker and an extremely hard hitter. Regardless of his 40 time he was extremely quick and fast, at least pre-knee injury. He had substantial knee injury problems at Alabama MackWilsonKneeInjury which seemingly led to some inconsistencies. Everyone assumed he would return for his senior year to show what he could do when fully at 100% and he very unexpectedly entered the draft, drafted in only the 5th round by Cleveland. So: he certainly has athletic potential if he can put his knee injury problems behind him.

BTW anyone called Portsmouth NH and told them yet?

I do, but as I recall it was Logan Ryan, McCourty, Duron Harmon and Steve Beauharnais over two drafts?

I get it's a meme, but it annoys me. Sorry, I'm just grumpy.
All good.

Drafted yea but there are a ****-ton he brought in as UFAs and via trades. Jason McD, Kyle Arrington, Sanu, Tiquan Underwood, Tim Wright just to name a few but there are a ton more.

Not a huge surprise really. Wino for whatever reason never really fitted in with our scheme. Seems a good trade for both teams really

Wilson for Wino is an alright trade, but I hoped they'd get a draft pick for Wino when his trade availability was put out there. Even a 6th Rounder in the quiver would help out on Draft Day.

Neither can Chandler Jones and he has been pretty successful. I don’t think Wino is that level of pass rusher but sometimes I just wish we could let a guy be good at one thing instead of average at a bunch.
Jones wasn't great at edge setting but he could do it.

Wino was worthless on the Patriots, glad to see him go.

I really wanted to like Wino the moment they drafted him. I looked for a continuation of the great LBs during this run: Johnson, Bruschi, Mayo, High, Wino... but he never seemed to put it together here. I'm not going out on a limb to think that he will likely have a rebirth elsewhere. Best of luck to him.

Tony Romo thought he had decent coverage ability on RB a few years ago, an achilles heel of ours from time to time in the past.

Only a matter of time until Uche gets traded next.

IMO this was a good move by BB. Winovich didn't do much for the Pats in two years as a OLB for the Pats so getting a speedier and a more athletic LB is a good move.

Wino, we hardly knew ye.

I think Uche is here and will get more playing time this year to see what he can do. He looked really good during tc and early last year before he got hurt.

With his cap hit only $1.22M I think you think correctly
