Player Signing The Hoyer’s back

Important with Josh leaving, that Mac has Hoyer back for some stability. No surprise here.
This. Never thought I would be happy to see Brian Hoyer come back as we have seen how terrible he is on the field but keeping some consistency around Mac will be helpful.

It’s a funny joke but probably kind of true. I see this contract as one that is intended to carry him through his final playing years and then into coaching. Many people will tell you Hoyer has said he doesn’t want to coach, but it’s not accurate - he said he felt it would be irresponsible (rather, his wife would be mad at him) to have to put in more hours as a coach for less money than if he was still on the roster. I can see this being an agreement between Bill and Hoyer where Bill says “I’ll pay you good backup QB money for two more years, but you’ll have to do some extra work coaching up Mac and any other potential QB I draft and working with the offense, then after this you’re my QB coach in 2024.” Hoyer turns 37 this season so I don’t think he will get a ton of offers at age 39. I’m sure he will be ready to hang them up by then, and coaching is the obvious next career step.

Honestly Hoyer could be the psuedo-assistant OC if Bill really does intend to run the offense this year.
I like him better as future HC vs anyone else we have on the current roster.

Funny how some players who suck become good position Coaches and analysts.
Yep.

We all know Hoyer is awful and should never see the field but if he can help Mac be a better QB in 2022 with prep and during the game it's all worthwhile.

Waste of a roster spot. Not even good enough to beat out Hoyer who is pretty bad.
Pre-season's not even started yet. Plenty of time to cut him if warranted.

The writing was on the wall for Stid when Bill wouldn't give him a look at the end of 2020 playing out the string with Cam instead.

Also next time a guy does this then do something on the field first to earn it.

He's just imagining how it is to be Brady. Kind of like me playing air guitar.

Hoyer is our QB coach, assistant offensive coach whether he knows it or not.
Brian instead of practicing today, why don’t you work with Nick, Joe and I on breaking down this film for weaknesses.
Bill what is this room?
Think of it as your personal locker room.
Does that plate on the desk say Coach Hoyer?
How did that get there, I’ll get this straightened out immediately.
No Bill it’s ok let’s watch that film?
Should I call my wife and tell her it’s going to be a long night?
Good to have you about aboard Hoy.
You can read that entire post as sarcasm.

I'm not so sure I'd be entirely comfortable with Hoyer having genuine responsibility for offense. Mac Jones is the franchise quarterback, right? So why do we need a third rate backup in the leadership role? This is another resigning of absolutely no consequence that's getting unwarranted attention. Hopefully he'll get cut and they'll bring in a backup quarterback who can actually play the position with at least minimal competence.

I used to go hard with that joke, but Ferentz has turned into a viable reserve IOL. He's at least no longer the worst center I've ever seen play.

I wonder if Bill sticks him in PS again to start the year at $1M.

Take it up with Bill. They could have cut Stidham when he returned from his back surgery last season. Instead, they activated him to the 53. I’ve never understood the vitriol towards Stidham. It’s not his fault he was over hyped after Brady left.

Stidham could not take any garbage time snaps because he wasn’t active. The Pats only activate 2 QBs a game.

It’s good to have Hoyer back. The 2 year deal tells me he got a signing bonus this time. Good for him.
I don’t understand how Stidham couldn’t beat out Hoyer to be the primary backup. He’s probably not making it in this league if he can’t beat out Hoyer.

Seems like a good kid and I wish him well but I don’t see any point in keeping him at this point.

Probably not??

Minimum of 10 Attempts, Hoyer was the best QB in football last year with an 82% Comp, a 149.4 rating and a Yds/Att of 20.6. Haven't really played Madden in decades, but I think he should be getting a 99 rating.

A lot of posters on this site would be happy to take that money for taking a knee in the last seconds.

Anyone who doesn’t have the ability to earn that money would take that money for an easy job. Hoyer earned it.

Given the guarantee money, probably not. They’d have to pay out all his guaranteed money to do that.

Why not sign him as a coach rather than waste a roster spot? Does he really have any other options? What other
team is signing him as a backup?
