Rumors - NE interested in Allen Robinson

Would rather not have another "contested catch" dude. His Separation numbers per NextGen have been abysmal for years now, and his YAC the last 2 years have been worse than Jakobi (and we all remember the latter's QB in 2020). Maybe it's bad timing, but whenever I watched him the last few years, he's looked slow.

The last team to ride a flashy WR pickup to a Super Bowl title was...um...does Percy Harvin's one game with Seattle in 2013 count?

The elite WR talents that have been carrying their offenses deep into the playoffs lately - Chase, Hill, Kupp, Godwin, Evans, Adams, Samuel - were all drafted by their current teams and developed within their systems. The only exception to this rule has been Diggs. The probability that Allen Robinson vaults this team into real contention is very low.

I am all for investing into a #1 wideout, but the draft is the way to do it. Save the FA dollars for the defense.

Would love if we could find ourselves a Chase. Might be tough at #21….

I don't see a reason why couldn't sign Robinson and draft a WR. From the sounds of it Agholor and Harry may be on the move so we have the roster space.

Just a thought.

For the record I'm fine with Allen Robinson or DJ Chark.

I think you are 100 percent correct, we could do both.

Would bb commit the resources needed to the wide receiver position is the bigger question .

The sounds of it say Agholor and Harry are on the move?

I mean, Harry will have a hard time sticking on the team...there's no lightbulb going off there. I expect the Pats would trade Agholor is they found a partner, but they won't cut him, adn I doubt there's a huge market for him in a trade at this point.

And we will be talking about the 2023 Draft in week 6 oh yeah I said it.

If bill isn't going to adjust with the time. Then sadly it might be time for him to hang it up. Can't operate like you still have Brady back there

We will know by this time tomorrow because the legal tampering period starts tomorrow at noon. Robinson is very likely to have a new team at 12:01.

I fear BB in his old age is going to become like Al Davis. So stuck in his ways that he slowly becomes a joke. The way our linebackers continue to be dinosaurs and never adapt is like when Davis drafted every fast person he could regardless of their production.

You think that it cheaper to get a top CB or LB in free agency than in the draft?

Belichick has shown more flexibility in recent years than he has when he was young. Do you think he would have spent the money he spent last year back in the early dynasty days? Start a rookie QB day one? He has changed a lot in recent years.

1. This year’s free agency period doesn’t start until tomorrow.
2. The 2022 draft is still more than a month away.
3. The last linebacker that BB drafted was a somewhat undersized but highly athletic player who reportedly ran a sub 4.5 forty during his time at Michigan (pre-2021 injury).

He had money to spend so he spent it. I don't even view the spending as crazy since none of the contracts were record breaking and look pretty tame just a year later. His hand was forced to a certain degree since we had so little talent and didn't have Brady to encourage discounts.

Cam had throwing limitations and Mac showed well. Starting a rookie qb doesn't feel like a surprise when you consider BB had no problem cutting both our starting safeties years ago and rolling with guys like James Ihedebo. BB hasn't changed much to me at all. We have suffered from slow defenses in the past and it seems we are in that cycle again. The problem is that everyone has sped up much faster and dual threat quarterbacks are becoming more prevalent.

McGrone is not a prototypical Belichick LB and he drafted him. McGrone is more the type of LB the Seahawks draft - smaller and quicker.

Belichick switched form his 3-4 base when he saw it wasn't as effective. He switched from a high safety cover 2 to a press man defense when he saw the league changing. He primarily plays a nickel and dime type defense because the defense changed. Last year he put more of an emphasis on the pass rush because of the weaknesses in the secondary along with the trends in the league.

I don't see Belichick nearly as inflexible as you do.

The BB kool aid drinkers would disagree.

If you boys think the Pats are smelling a SB with middling talent I've got some lots for sale in the Green Swamp.

Bringing back old ass, slow AF vets; trading for cheap avg players or drafting to outsmart everyone else like he recently did while he had the GOAT at QB ain't gonna work anymore. The dynasty is dead.

Bill needs to go BIG or stay home while he has a QB (the guy?) under a rookie contract. Get young. Get fast. Get talented. Or don't and die.

Robinson immediately vaults to # 1 WR on this team.

His YAC is low because Robinson has the where-withal to run the route deep enough for the 1st down. His forte is also sideline routes going out of bounds. He was deadly with Tribisky moving the chains. The Bills have been playing 8 men in the box vs Jones choking off the NE passing game. The Pats have to get rid of the ball fast to guys who are covered and Robinson would be my first look. Ive seen defenses play text book coverage vs Robinson and he still makes the reception.

Bill led the team back to the playoffs after one year of losing Brady. Even more it was nearly a complete rebuild.

Replacing the dinosaur linebackers makes it a complete rebuild.

I'd be in on Robinson if he doesn't set the market for WR. I think he's a relatively safe bet here: precise route runner, athletic, and hasn't really ever benefitted from a good QB so you have to figure there's some additional upside there. The only thing that makes me hesitate (on him or any FA WR) is that there seems to guys who "get it" and guys who don't here. So the more you spend on a guy, the bigger the risk you take if he ends up being the latter.

But put me in the camp that would be fine with bringing him in AND drafting someone. Robinson replaces Agholor and the rookie replaces Harry on the roster. I wouldn't go first round in that case, but maybe a 2nd rounder like a Sky Moore?
