OT: Russell Wilson traded to Denver

Could end up great for both teams. Denver looks somewhat like tampa before 2020 where they may be a qb away. Not too knowledgeable on denver to confirm this but I believe they have the 3rd ranked d and they do have good talent at wr. Plus a nice run game. Id say its worth the move if Wilsons body holds up

This is a good move for DEN despite the price they paid. There were several games they could've won but just couldn't score. I can see them going from 7-10 to 10-7 with Wilson and making the playoffs. Probably not much further though.
If all they get is 10-7, this is a terrible deal for DEN.

What also kinda sucks a little about this trade from a NEP perspective is that the Donkeys were one of our potential trade partners after moving down one or two other times from 21…

Plus you'd better believe Von Miller is heading back there...the thing about RW though is that he does have a tendency to choke in big games.

This is underrated and not talked about enough.

Wilson had 4 picks in the NFCCG before riffling that pass into Butler's chest. Rodgers of course couldn't hold a 16-point advantage in that game either.

Overall Wilson's had an excellent career. Good move by Denver.

I don't know if he really chokes.

I’ve posted frequently that Wilson is simply closer to average than elite. His teams almost always average closer to middle road point totals. Like Rodgers, his passer rating is often very misleading if the point of the game is scoring. Don’t get me wrong: he’s a very good QB capable of taking over games, but he can’t really dissect and pick apart defenses with pinpoint passes in tight coverage to move the chains consistently.

In the postseason, the defenses are often better and teams need to score to win. The reliance on broken plays, the scrambling around, the lack of sustained drives due to boom or bust risks, all these things simply show up more.

I wouldn't hold the Butler pick against him though. That was more a product of a bad play call in that situation, Ernie Adams' film work, and Belichick practicing that play over and over again in practice leading up to the SB. The throw itself was fine. It's just that Butler got there at the same time as the ball.

Huh? You don’t hold the Qb accountable to throwing a pick when the guy he throws to is covered?
A Qb de idea where to throw they don’t throw where the receiver goes and hope he’s open.

When Wilson released the ball, Kearse wasn't covered. Butler came out of nowhere.

He didn’t come out of nowhere, he covered the play properly.

Butler was 4 yards away from Lockette and was hiding behind Kearse/Browner when RW released the ball.

He beat Kearse to the ball, because he was in position to, not because he ran twice as fast as any human can, and “came out of nowhere”. He was right there, making the pick. It’s Wilson job to see that. Not even debatable.
He wasn’t hiding, Jesus, where do you get this stuff from?

In the above screen shot, you can see Kearse/Browner obstructing WIlson's view as he was about to release the ball. That was the whole point of the play. And the 4 yard gap between Lockett and Butler is not "being covered." Malcom's closing speed after RW released was great.

No. Butler is running right to the spot. Wilson has to know that’s the coverage and see butler is going to beat kearse to the spot. He has a clear view of butler who is definitely not hiding, but breaking to the spot.
Do you think QBs are not responsible for looking at the coverage? Do you think he isn’t supposed to know where the danger is coming from? There is no shock that Butler has Kearse, it’s blatantly obvious.
Terrible decision by Wilson. Obviously.

By this nonsense, every INT in NFL history is the QB’s fault. Sometimes defenders make unbelievable plays, as Butler did here. If Butler wanted to “cover” Lockett he would have jammed him at the LOS. The whole point of the play was for Butler to break on the ball as soon as RW released it. And no, he did not have a clear view of Butler as the screenshot shows.

Omg. Now you think Butler didn’t want to cover Kearse?
There are 2 ways to cover that, your way, which would fail, and the patriots way which won the SB. Butler cover the in by going around the pick instead of running into it.
The point of the play was to avoid getting caught in a puck and run to the spot. If he waited to “break when it was released” it’s a TD.
Wilson sees Butler presnap KNOWS WHAT THE COVERAGE IS POST SNAP and must account for Butler. He failed to do that and lost.
Are you seriously saying it was a good a decision to throw to a spot the defender gets to first? For real?

But if you are going to lie and look at that picture and deny butler is clearly visible to Wilson (he is clear of browner) then you are just refusing to admit you are wrong and will say anything.
