Is this the end of a potential Chiefs dynasty?

The way I would characterize it is probably the greatest dynasty that didn’t happen. Really could have won 4 Super Bowls. Really bad losses to patriots in 18 and bengals yesterday. Winning is hard.

i still think they’re the team to beat because of mahomes and Reid but it’s going to start getting a lot harder with mahomes big cap hits coming

Didnt the chiefs complain they didn’t get the ball in overtime when they played the Pats in the AFC game? They got the ball this time.what new rules do we need now for overtime?

Two weeks in a row!

I wonder if the Pats set the blueprint to defend Mahomes? Any x and o’s guys know about that? I heard an announcer say teams have been playing two deep safeties against him. I also think you need to take some risks and pressure guys like that then they get sacked and make mistakes.I think the bengals started pressuring more in the second half rather than try to cover everyone and letting mahomes have all day.

I mean it’s pretty objectively true that the greatest dynasty that never happened were the 90s Bills.

It's just a harsh reminder that even when you have a team worthy of winning the Super Bowl it is really hard and you need some things to go your way.

There is no doubt in my mind the Chiefs were the best team playing this weekend, but lo and behold and they'll be spectators watching the Super Bowl. As we all know, though, the ball sometimes doesn't bounce your way. I very much enjoyed watching them collapse.

I think this is the beginning of future disappointments for the Chiefs. This loss was really bad.

With 45 and 50 million dollar cap hits coming up starting next year?

No.
People keep getting hung up on QB salaries but you need a QB worthy of big money to make a real playoff run. Josh Allen, Matt Stafford, Mahomes, and Burrow who in another year will make more than Mahomes. The days of having a QB who wouldn't push for top dollar are over so the fanbase is going to need to be prepared to pay Mac $50 mill a year if we are lucky enough to have him play like a high end QB.

Mahomes is Favre 2.0

Were reckless in college, but thrived because their generational arm talent and mobility made it easy to scheme up play art that could stretch the field. (Seriously: Andy Reid's scheme was an extension of Mike Holmgren's, who coached Brett Favre...)

And naturally... all that "arm talent" and "mobility" has a drawback: Mahomes, like Favre, never learned to properly diesct and breakdown defenses: so once defenses adjusted, they would both unravel: Favre would throw reckless interceptions trying to play hero ball (instead of making audibles, throwing to the soft spots in the defense, etc.), and Mahomes would just scramble backwards like a mad man (instead of audibling, throwing with anticipation, etc.)

Mahomes running around again cost the team.

I don’t care what anyone says, I think Josh Allen is the best QB in the NFL. Not Mahomes.

Mahomes lives in an offense with guys running around wide open constantly. The instant they aren’t running around wide open, he starts to look like crap.

Consider this (saw it on another forum): Mahomes is 32nd in the NFL in tight window throws. And Mahomes is 26th in the NFL in air yards per attempt (that means his passes are mostly short throws), but he is top 5 in total yards (that means his playmakers take his short passes and turn them into long plays).

Give Allen the talent of KC … Andy Reid, Kelce, Hill, etc and he would be throwing 60 TD’s a year.

Give me Allen all day.

I agree and then some.

This is a pretty shocking comment from a GM. But he is spot on and the bravado and outright arrogance of that team will forever keep them from every being a dynasty.
