Rodgers was lucky as **** when it came to premier games against other good/elite QBs. When I looked at the schedule at the beginning of the year, I thought the Packers would lose 5-6 games. But here's the type of luck/support he got..:
Cousins - Beat Packers in first game; DNP second game due to Covid
Mahomes - (Rodgers DNP); defense held to 13 points
Wilson - Defense shut out
L. Jackson - DNP due to Covid
Roethlisberger - Defense held to 17 points, interception (10 points before garbage time)
Burrow - Defense held to 22 points, 2 interceptions
Stafford - 28 points, interception (classic Stafford game....only 17 ponts before garbage time; pick six and fumble lost)
Murray - Defense held to 21 points, 2 INTs, game losing INT
So basically in every game, the defense held an above average QB to under the average amount of points, in some cases elite QBs, and forced multiple turnover often.
Well, whatever...as I've said in the past about the MVP award, it's really the award for the guy who overcame the least adversity, had the best numbers, and had the best record. Rarely does a QB win the award when he actually has to deal with injuries, a crappy defense, etc. It annoys me that Rodgers will win in both 2020 and 2021, considering he's done less than Brady or Mahomes in the two years combined, when you look at the actual offensive production rather than the sexy stats only. But in the end, MVP awards mean very little in the annals of history. No one cares how many PGA Player of the Year awards you have if you don't have the majors. The signature championships are all that really matter.
In the NHL they have a bunch of awards (actual trophies, not just some all-pro distinction.) It's nice because you can kind of split your votes for the trophies, instead of the all-or-nothing type of deal here. Rodgers and Brady both had outstanding seasons, but when you look at their passing attempts and what they were asked to do, it's apples to oranges.
