It's easy, and only takes a few moments.I agree that Mills could be a "good CB, possibly great FS" type of guy, very much in the vein of DMC. I'm not sold on the idea that McCourty is retired or otherwise gone after this season but it's not unlikely either, and Mills seems like a good replacement option - although at that point, while your safeties seem to be in good shape, your CBs look pretty bad. Your #1 (JC) is a free agent and your #2 (Mills) is now your FS so you need to replace the entire top end of your CB group. I suppose if they can agree to terms with JC or tag him then this is less of a problem, but who knows how that goes. At least the retention of Phillips makes your safety situation a slightly clearer in an otherwise cloudy '22 secondary picture.Like DMC, Mills might have better success at FS than CB.
I had thought they were planning on having Mills play the Harmon role this year with some slot CB thrown in. The Gilmore PUP situation forced him to the outside and he’s been better than anticipated. But he likely would still be better in that role as you mention, given his past play. Will be interesting to see how this plays out in the off-season.We won’t find out until FA.

McCourty almost left after 2014 until the Patriots met his minimum asking price. Apparently he was then planning on leaving after 2019 because he wanted a different challenge having won 3 SB on a loaded Patriots team…. And then Brady left and he realized he had that perfect challenge right here now. I definitely don’t think it’s a given that he’s back with the Pats or retired. Losing the entire secondary would be a huge issue as you said, so I’m glad they’ve got at least one of the key cogs returning - and at a very cheap price it seems, too.Phillips has been amazing so this is a great signing and the value seems extremely good.

CB: Jones
S: Phillips, Dugger, Mills, Bryant
They should tag JC & draft a CB high so they can return to a press man defense IMO.
