I recall this hopeless field goal attempt where the ball ended up travelling parallel to the goal line:

Just heard on the sports hub (nothing else to listen to on the drive home to Boston) that the official FAA forecast (pilot friend texted Jim Murray) for tonight is wind gusts approaching 50 mph. Even Allen’s arm isn’t strong enough to throw deep in that weather. Likely helps the Pats.

If that's true we'll probably see some quick kicks like Cassel did in that windy 08 game.

If we can pull out a win tonight somehow, I think the 1 seed is ours.
I don’t know… we will likely have to win out or if we’re lucky only lose one of the games against the bills colts and fins. The chiefs don’t have a tough schedule and they very well may win out.

I'm guessing then that if the Pats win the coin toss, they might actually take the ball in the first half so they can choose the winds for the second half.

That's what I'm saying. IF we win today, I don't see the Colts or Bills beating us (at home). And while the Chiefs may win out as well, they are going to need NE and Tennessee to drop a few games if they want the 1 seed.

What we really want to do is throw to lighten the box. Almost any team can stop the run if you come out and run every first and second down.
Over-attacking a weakness makes it no longer a weakness because the defense overplays it. If they bring 8 into the box they will be able to stop the run but if we are balanced we are running against a neutral or light box.
In other words if you run 50 times against a weak run D you are begging them to sell out to stop you, but if you have balance and run 30 times you will run against an advantageous front much more often and be more successful.
Same reason you don’t throw at a bad corner 30 timed a game because you will be throwing into doubles. You dictate him into single coverage and torch him 10-12 times.

Thanks. Does that strategy logically lead to an extra lineman and two TEs? Or three TE sets?

I think weather is extremely overrated as a factor, except when the winds are intense. Not sure what to think of this game if the winds are extreme.

Hmm, ok. I think games between good teams are more of a toss-up than that. It’s entirely possible that we win tonight and then lose 1-2 of @colts, bills, @fins. Winning tonight certainly wouldn’t guarantee us beating the bills next time, for example.
And if chiefs win out, they’d only need us to lose one game.

The Weather Alert is on until just before the game (7pm), so hopefully things are a little calmer by gametime. Still showing 20mph+ winds in the hourly forecasts though

Going to be interesting:

This is where everyone who gives the Pats' crap for dinking and dunking throws are going to potentially have egg on their face. You are more likely to have a long TD like the way Bourne did it last week with a shorter pass and 30 yards or so of YAC rather than Allen throwing a 40 yard bomb to Stephon Diggs.

In obvious running situations, yes.
The key is in run/pass neutral form and distance to use base personnel so THEY use base personal and you can exploit the weakness without announcing you are doing it so they can load up.

I spent four long years in Western NY in college and I can attest that winds off the lake (Erie/Ontario) have to be experienced first hand to be appreciated. If they do approach 50 mph, expect field goal attempts to go very wide... and punts to be affected to the extreme.

Totally agree w Rob0729 as to shorter passes help Pats..hopefully...

Just noticed high wind warnings expire 90 minutes pre kickoff. Still may be bad but that THAT bad....

Mac Jones: 375 Yards. 4 TDs. 0 Ints.
At halftime
not likely in the winds that will be blowing tonight. I’ll be happy if Mac goes 10 for 12 with 150 yards and no INTs, as long as Rham and Dam and KB run for another couple of hundred yards and the D does its part by shutting down the Bills O so the Pats win by 10 or more.

Chiefs don’t have a team with a losing record left and 3 of 5 are on the road. They will lose at least 1, probably 2.

They got no shot!

Can I get banned before kick off??

LoL

That'll be his stat line just targetting Gunner.
