Bill Belichick appreciation thread

The problem is that BB does not conform and does not treat the press or the establishment with any pretense of respect. Treating the press like they are sub human for years motivated the revolution. Most fans live in the moment and went along with the revolt because their team was not in the super bowl and TB12 was there. Maybe Chill Bill will evolve to the point where people can appreciate the team.
Yes, and he also creates solid players from guys that idiots in the media do not respect.
Duggar and Gunner are D2, KB was an FCS receiver. The media wanted us to get names not players. A lot of teams stay obsessed with measurables which don’t always translate to success.

You waited a helluva long time to lose respect for that bloated foghorn.
I thought he did not care speaking his mind about how he feels and then for him to change like that caught me flat footed.

In 2017 they deferred from the draft, traded away picks, traded for vet players like Cooks. Not picking players isn’t a bad draft if rookies aren’t going to make your vet laden team. They made the Super Bowl in 2017 and won it in 2018 in case people forgot. They didn’t start using their draft capital until 2018, the majority of young contributors on this roster in 2021 were drafted in the last four years.

Yeah... it's apparent the Patriots struggle to find rookie talent, especially recently.

Insert eye-roll here…

I agree the last draft is WAY better than the crap from beforehand (NKeal, Michel, Wynn, Sanu).

Really glad Kraft saw it and that Eliot Wolf and Matt Groh helped BB bring in a strong crop of young players in 2021.

What's the evidence that Kraft had anything to do with BB's front office decisions?

Kraft literally called out the crappy drafting and talked about changes needed. Did you miss it? BB didn't keep checking in with Wolf and Groh in the war room this year because he wanted to. It's a much more collaborative process now involving more than just bb and morons from john carroll.

Watching Tom and Bill succeed independently is the ultimate F YOU to the league and the other fanbases.
And countless mediots too. God they struggled to make that story line stick and now it's disappeared. If it reappears because we're both in the Super Bowl, I think we're fine with that.

Brady would be making at least 20 million more than what Mac is making
For what it's worth:

Tom Brady signed a 1 year, $25,000,000 contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, including a $20,000,000 signing bonus, $25,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $25,000,000. In 2021, Brady will earn a base salary of $1,075,000, a signing bonus of $25,000,000 and a roster bonus of $1,470,588, while carrying a cap hit of $10,545,588 and a dead cap value of $50,000,000.
Contract Notes:
  • $15M of $20M signing bonus is deferred to 2022
  • 2021 Roster Bonus: $20M (fully guaranteed, treated as a signing bonus
  • 2023-25 automatically void at the end of the 2022 league year ($24M dead cap)
Ref: Tom Brady

The killer is the voidable years contain a big cap hit, $24M for 2023. Presuming Tom plays this year and next, in 2023 Tampa will be taking a $24M cap hit for Tom yet still be needing to pay a QB. Maybe Cam will still be available for cheap money? If he quits at the end of this season, it's even worse, an unbelievable $40M cap hit. We had similar problems when we tacked on the voidable years to keep the band together for one more year, 2019, which made for cap hell in 2020. The structure of Tom's contract means he really does have to play in 2022 otherwise Tampa is royally screwed. A restructure just makes for an even worse hit in future years.

Mac Jones signed a 4 year, $15,586,352 contract with the New England Patriots, including a $8,695,528 signing bonus, $15,586,352 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $3,896,588. In 2021, Jones will earn a base salary of $660,000 and a signing bonus of $8,695,528, while carrying a cap hit of $2,833,882 and a dead cap value of $15,586,352.
Ref: Mac Jones

In terms of your original question, if we want to compare cash for 2021:
  • TB: $27,545,588
  • MJ: $9,355,528
  • Difference: $18.2M
We can see this is because most of Mac's cash ($9M out of $15M) gets paid out in year 1, yet we have control for four years at relatively low numbers, and still can do the fifth year option.

In 2022, Tom will take $24M in cash more than Mac, mainly because Mac's cash payout drops substantially, but of course Tampa might renegotiate yet again to push even more money into the future.

It's funny how BB "changed" the way he drafted in 2021 but Duggar, Onwenu, Uche, Damien Harris, Winovich, JoeJuan, Bailey, Bentley et all were drafted in the years leading up to 2021... when exactly did he suck again?

The prevailing thought prior to 2021 is that BB ignored his scouts and drafted prospects from his college buddies instead... good thing he changed that up in 2021 and drafted back to back 1-2 picks from Saban... a guy he hates, you know... just to be different.

N'Keal was a bad pick, the guy is soft, one bad pick doesn't define a GM... good grief.

Nothing changed, this "BB changed" take is just a pivot from the "BB sucks at drafting" crowd. It was a bad take then, it's a bad take now.

You gotta respect Belichick. As a matter of fact, i"m convinced when Belichick is your coach, you get a 200% field power bonus.

They are all in the Bucs sub-forum these days. The vast majority of their posts are Bucs related. Not sure why they come here to begin with if they only liked the Patriots because of Brady.

MAC

Don't jinx it.

Having the Douche Awry absent from these threads is by far the best part of this six game winning streak.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. His post history suggests he'll only post about the Bucs or Brady.

The notions that if you A, still like Brady, then you must hate Bill. And B, if you didn't think this was a playoff team at 2-4 then you aren't a fan are so stupid. Bill has done a great job this season managing a rookie QB and winning games and deserves all the credit in the world. He also had what looks to be a great draft class along with some key personnel moves which all really seem to be gelling at the moment. This wasn't a good team early on. If calling it how you see it at the time makes you a bad fan then call me a bad fan all you want. I take what I see on the field and judge by that.

I don't think you're an organizational stooge, I think you've had good opinions, but no it's not binary. BB has the best record as GM the last 20 years but he has had amazing drafts and he's had crappy drafts. So let's not sugarcoat his crappy drafts, particularly ones where they went over scouts' opinions and drafted mcIdiot's brother's RB (Maroney), or Chad Jackson, or NKeal ("hey he's like Gronk!!"), or whatever other dumb opinions happened to waste top picks.

Let's just be happy that the recent draft has been way better and seems to have fixed the problem with Eliot Wolf and Groh heavily involved now.

.

Good article by Lazar:

Some envious/jealous construction workers may not like the guy, but Lazar has been consistently putting out A+ content all season long with good analysis and perspective.

You deleted my post in your response because it shot holes in your take and I suspect you didn’t want posters to see it.

BB has always drafted well and has recently. N’Keal was one bad pick, the majority of this team is being driven by picks made the last four years. You crediting Wolf and Groh, two guys Bill hired to help replace Caesario is laughable.

Duggar leads us in tackles, Damien Harris leads us in rushing and TD's, Onwenu is a stud, Bailey is arguably the best punter in the NFL, Bentley is second in tackles and has been a force… all drafted before Wolf and Groh were hired.

Weak sauce covering up a “BB sucks at drafting” take that has never been true in two decades. Some classes are better than others, but the best GM’s in the NFL might hit on 30% of their picks. This team has never been devoid of talent, they’ve been contenders since 2001.

Actually, it doesn't mean you are a bad fan.................

It reinforces what your posting has been telling us for several months.

You're "calling it the way you see it" shows you lack clarity and you're thinking is....well....unsound

You are one of the lackers of clarity that for whatever reason couldn't grasp that a re-tooling after 3 SB's and 5 AFCC's was going to happen. You are also one of the complete lackers of clarity who didn't see what the CAP strategy would yield in re-tooling the roster.

Did you miss 2009?

Non- lackers of clarity saw this was coming since 2017.

So the 43 year old QB does well with a stacked roster assembled by a Belichick acolyte. Only a lacker of clarity goes that route and doesn't move to the young franchise QB as part of the re-tooling.

How exactly bad was it early?

Lost to Miami by 1
Lost to NO with MAC showing rookie
Lost to your Buccaneers by 2.....with a donk.
Lost to Dallas in OT.

Face it, you are fuming right now because "2-4" is no longer and your dreams of continued misery are not reflected in the record or by Patriot fans here at patsfans.
