The problem is that BB does not conform and does not treat the press or the establishment with any pretense of respect. Treating the press like they are sub human for years motivated the revolution. Most fans live in the moment and went along with the revolt because their team was not in the super bowl and TB12 was there. In 2017 they deferred from the draft, traded away picks, traded for vet players like Cooks. Not picking players isn’t a bad draft if rookies aren’t going to make your vet laden team. They made the Super Bowl in 2017 and won it in 2018 in case people forgot. They didn’t start using their draft capital until 2018, the majority of young contributors on this roster in 2021 were drafted in the last four years.

Tom Brady signed a 1 year, $25,000,000 contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, including a $20,000,000 signing bonus, $25,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $25,000,000. In 2021, Brady will earn a base salary of $1,075,000, a signing bonus of $25,000,000 and a roster bonus of $1,470,588, while carrying a cap hit of $10,545,588 and a dead cap value of $50,000,000.

Contract Notes:

• $15M of $20M signing bonus is deferred to 2022
• 2021 Roster Bonus: $20M (fully guaranteed, treated as a signing bonus
• 2023-25 automatically void at the end of the 2022 league year ($24M dead cap)

The killer is the voidable years contain a big cap hit, $24M for 2023. Presuming Tom plays this year and next, in 2023 Tampa will be taking a $24M cap hit for Tom yet still be needing to pay a QB. Maybe Cam will still be available for cheap money? If he quits at the end of this season, it's even worse, an unbelievable $40M cap hit. We had similar problems when we tacked on the voidable years to keep the band together for one more year, 2019, which made for cap hell in 2020. The structure of Tom's contract means he really does have to play in 2022 otherwise Tampa is royally screwed. A restructure just makes for an even worse hit in future years.

Mac Jones signed a 4 year, $15,586,352 contract with the New England Patriots, including a $8,695,528 signing bonus, $15,586,352 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $3,896,588. In 2021, Jones will earn a base salary of $660,000 and a signing bonus of $8,695,528, while carrying a cap hit of $2,833,882 and a dead cap value of $15,586,352.

In terms of your original question, if we want to compare cash for 2021:

• TB: $27,545,588
• MJ: $9,355,528
• Difference: $18.2M

We can see this is because most of Mac's cash ($9M out of $15M) gets paid out in year 1, yet we have control for four years at relatively low numbers, and still can do the fifth year option.

In 2022, Tom will take $24M in cash more than Mac, mainly because Mac's cash payout drops substantially, but of course Tampa might renegotiate yet again to push even more money into the future.

It's funny how BB "changed" the way he drafted in 2021 but Duggar, Onwenu, Uche, Damien Harris, Winovich, JoeJuan, Bailey, Bentley et all were drafted in the years leading up to 2021... when exactly did he suck again?

The prevailing thought prior to 2021 is that BB ignored his scouts and drafted prospects from his college buddies instead... good thing he changed that up in 2021 and drafted back to back 1-2 picks from Saban... a guy he hates, you know... just to be different.

N'Keal was a bad pick, the guy is soft, one bad pick doesn't define a GM... good grief.

Bill has done a great job this season managing a rookie QB and winning games and deserves all the credit in the world. He also had what looks to be a great draft class along with some key personnel moves which all really seem to be gelling at the moment. This wasn't a good team early on. If calling it how you see it at the time makes you a bad fan then call me a bad fan all you want. I take what I see on the field and judge by that.

BB has always drafted well and has recently. N’Keal was one bad pick, the majority of this team is being driven by picks made the last four years. You crediting Wolf and Groh, two guys Bill hired to help replace Caesario is laughable.

Duggar leads us in tackles, Damien Harris leads us in rushing and TD's, Onwenu is a stud, Bailey is arguably the best punter in the NFL, Bentley is second in tackles and has been a force… all drafted before Wolf and Groh were hired.

Weak sauce covering up a “BB sucks at drafting” take that has never been true in two decades. Some classes are better than others, but the best GM’s in the NFL might hit on 30% of their picks. This team has never been devoid of talent, they’ve been contenders since 2001.

You are one of the lackers of clarity that for whatever reason couldn't grasp that a re-tooling after 3 SB's and 5 AFCC's was going to happen. You are also one of the complete lackers of clarity who didn't see what the CAP strategy would yield in re-tooling the roster.

Did you miss 2009?

Non- lackers of clarity saw this was coming since 2017.

So the 43 year old QB does well with a stacked roster assembled by a Belichick acolyte. Only a lacker of clarity goes that route and doesn't move to the young franchise QB as part of the re-tooling.
