I don't want to defend Nagy, but he and that Bears defense, dragged Trubisky to the playoffs, twice.in four seasons. Trubisky sucks. And, now, Nagy is stuck playing a rookie who was nowhere near ready to be an NFL starter.

Nagy's got plenty of deficiencies as an NFL head coach, but he's also been saddled with incompetent QB play.

However preparing the QB to play is just responsibility. Like the Patriots did, the rookie should play and be coached up to be effective and given the offense in doses.
A good runner has it easier because the added dimension if used properly takes pressure away from needing a fully evolved passing game to be effective.
There is a reason some coaches fail with all their young qbs and some succeed with most of them. 90% of how a rookie QBs plays is determined by how well he is cus he’s and how well the scheme is bent for him. Fields would be doing fine here.

So hard to judge guys like Fields and Lawrence with the coaching that they have.

Mac would be a mess if he played for a guy like Nagy or Meyer. No doubt about it.

Agree. Learning the playbook is one thing. It's having pinpoint accuracy. Running the offense on-time. Calling the protections. Getting the WR on the same page with his reads so sight adjustments can be made.

That's what QBs who were here like Cam and the Ryan Mallett types couldn't be.

I don't think Fields beats out Newton for the QB1 job to start the year. Decent odds he'd have won it by now, but it was pretty close between Newton and Mac until the buzzer, and Fields needed more seasoning than Mac to be ready to run this offense.

Fields should never have been named the starter. He wasn't close to ready.

Makes even less sense when considering that there were two other QBs in their building who had success in the league and who would've been perfect transitional mentors for the kid... That move smelled of panic.

Mac, with his quick processing, quick release, and ability to throw players open in the short passing game, would have been fine in Chicago, IMO.

A Pulitzer-prize winning Chicago reporter has dropped a bomb on the Bears beat.

Mark Konkol, who previously worked for the Chicago Sun-Times, reports at Patch.com that the Bears have informed coach Matt Nagy that he’ll be fired after Thursday’s game at Detroit.

A “top source with knowledge of the decision” told Konkel that Nagy was informed of his looming fate on Monday. Konkol does not cover the Bears, but there’s no hesitation or equivocation in his report.

I agree on all those attributes but I question if he'd really be set up to succeed there or they'd ask him to do things he can't, like Fields.

Well Fields can't protect himself, struggles with secondary reads, leaves the pocket too soon, and isn't as accurate as Jones. He was a really bad fit for a rookie starter on a team with a garbage OL and limited receiving weapons. So I think Jones would have been just what the doctor ordered for the offense (out of the rookies), though it might not have made much difference, given just how difficult the Bears' schedule has been.

Tuesday’s report that Bears coach Matt Nagy has been told he’ll be fired after Thursday’s game against the Lions has been refuted by Nagy himself.

Meeting with reporters, Nagy was asked about the report from Pulitzer-winning reporter Mark Konkol that Nagy has been told he’s out after the Thanksgiving game. “This is not accurate,” Nagy said of the report.

Nagy also said he has not spoken with chairman George McCaskey or team president Ted Phillips. Nagy also avoided answering directly questions as to whether he has received an assurance that he’ll finish the season as head coach.

The problem in Chicago is you have a 98 year old owner. Let's start there. And the chairman of the team is the owner's son.

It’s hard to say. Certainly Mac fits the Patriots system and offense as run by Brady for so many years PERFECTLY. I do think Josh and BB could have developed an offense (likely a much different one) to emphasize Field’s strengths and maybe eventually teach him to avoid his many mistakes that largely come about from “hero ball”. And certainly the Pats are better at developing QBs than the Bears, so maybe Fields could have eventually been successful here. But Mac already fits the Patriot’s system like a marriage made in Heaven.
