Game Day Thread Official Post Game Thread- Pats beat the Falcons

THIS IS OUR LIVE GAME DAY THREAD:

This is where we gather to follow things on Game Day. Obviously, emotions tend to be high so if anyone gets a little crazy, the use of the “Mute” button is encouraged on anyone who may be annoying to you to control your experience and to allow the moderators to also enjoy the game.

At the same time, please take a deep breath before over-reacting for the sake of making this a pleasant experience for everyone.

Pats seem to always struggle against Dean Pees so great win..
I remember when he was the DC here, there were a lot of posters who wanted him gone, they thought he was terrible. He went to the ravens and they won a SB, and along the way crushed the patriots in a playoff game. IMO he didn't have the players when he was with the pats.

I think if the Patriots win in Buffalo, they’ll win the division. Even if they lose to TN, that still sets up the second Bills-Patriots game as the tiebreaker due to h2h.

If they lose that game, the divisional race is probably over. They’d need to win the rematch and quite a bit of help.

In other words, they need to sweep Buffalo, which is not a gimme...

Jonnu just seems like he suddenly isn't good at football. Frying pan hands early. Lack of situational awareness. Just a strange turnaround for what a formerly top TE.
I think he’s a guy who is discovering his ceiling is lower than the Patriots’ locker room floor. Saw some rumors he’s not learned the playbook, which would put him out of step on the field and cause other problems, loss of confidence, etc.

It's sad and laughable at the same time how bad the actual football is on Thursday nights. Crap ton of penalties. Poor execution. Not discounting the win whatsoever, but if there was never another Thu night game the league would be better for it.

I said a while ago that teams playing Thursday games shouldn't be playing that Sunday before. If you're gonna do a Thursday game, make it so that the teams have off the Sunday before and after. This would essentially give them 2 additional long weeks to go along with the real "BYE" week. The games would be a better product.

Yes, I guess it’s the same as saying that. I just like their odds if they win that first one. Puts much more pressure on Buffalo and keeps the momentum for the Pats.

it's not an easy offense for receiver types, but he's not going anywhere.......Gilmore was lousy early, too

Some thoughts. Disclaimer: I don't put a lot of weight in anything coming out of this game because Thursday night games are so screwy and the play is usually subpar by even the best teams.
  • I am going to totally counter the last sentence right off the back (go ahead and flame away), but the Pats' defense last night continues to show they are a legit top defense in this league. I say this because this is a continuation from this year. Throw out the Cowboys game and this defense has been doing what they have been doing all year. They are just getting better and better. No more making excuses about the past games like Tom Brady was just caught up in the moment and off or Brady had trouble throwing in the rain. This team has been playing great defense most of the year.
  • JC Jackson should be prepared for the franchise tag. The Pats have no choice now. The only way he isn't with the Pats in 2022 is if another team trades for him which would require a first rounder at least. But I doubt Belichick trades him unless it is a high first.
  • Flashback to five weeks ago. People were talking about how Kyle Van Noy and Donte Hightower were washed up and the Pats should have not signed Van Noy and should have cut Hightower before the season. I was one of them who thought they were washed up. How did that work out?
  • Speaking of Van Noy. How p*ssed must Dolphins fans have been last night? The Dolphins paid a buttload for him and he washed out after one season only to come back to the Pats and have an All Pro game like last night.
  • When will Jonnu Smith get it? On that interception, he had no fight for the ball and just allowed the defender to push him out of position. Jones shouldn't have thrown that ball and it is on him for the INT, but he did throw it to a place where Smith had the best chance to get it and there was no fight for the ball. He let the defender just rip it right out of his grasp.
  • Give Dean Pees credit. All night he did a good job taking away Jones' first option on passing plays. In the first half, Jones had no problem going through his progressions and finding the open man. In the second half, Pees dialed up the pressure and made it far harder for the Pats' offense to function.
  • Thank God the Pats are not in the NFC. Fox's broadcasts sucks so hard. Their analysts are a bunch of buffoons. That friggin sky cam is horrible. I was getting motion sick with their presnap panning of the offense from behind. And the angle they show the kick offs shows nothing. Aikman used to be a good analyst. Now he can barely stay interested in the games.
JC will get a long term deal with a large signing bonus.
Franchise tag won’t be needed

Maybe because he got paid bigly, it happens to some players. They finally get a big pay day and their performance drops off.

Are we still doing this?

He plays through injuries, can't remember when he practiced fully, missed much of preseason.
Give these guys some time & love. He'll be there when the time comes.

Our strength on offense right now is running the ball, which unfortunately, Buffalo is very good at stopping. And unlike Tampa and Dallas, Buffalo's pass D is stingy as well. If the offense were more in sync, I'd like our chances of a sweep better.

Steelers? They couldn’t even beat Detroit!

But they did beat Buffalo, and Watt is the kind of defender that can ruin an offense that can't run the football. Tennessee should be the overwhelming favorite, but a Steeler win would not be shocking. Hell, you could play that game with any good team. "Buffalo couldn't beat the Jags!" "Tennessee couldn't beat the Jets!" "Tampa Bay couldn't beat a team with no name!" "Baltimore couldn't beat Miami!" "Dallas couldn't beat Teddy Bridgewater!"

these games are going to come down to scoring on limited possessions, and converting scoring opportunities into TDs and not FGs

Yeah, and this site should stop with the 'what if we lose JC' posts. Franchise tag is $15M or so, he's worth every penny of it, he's not going anywhere next season. Jalen Ramsey got $100M for five years, that's what it would take (or more) to keep him long term, but that's not a problem till end of next season. Knowing Bill, that will be time to say goodbye, unless he can talk JC into signing a long term deal this off season.

That's all part of Bill the GM's team building strategy. Cast-offs like KVN and Jamie Collins are welcome to come back. He wants lots of serviceable bodies at decent salaries. That's where the room for salary to pay for players like Judon comes from. KVN is signed through next season with a $2.4M cap hit, Collins is UFA. Gives them plenty of flexibility to be an opportunistic buyer going forward.

The tag is definitely a strong possibility, I think a longterm deal gets done however if Jackson continues to play like the last few weeks. There is no Gilmore to pay, there might be no Phillips or McCourty to pay. Backload the contract and take on like a 6-7 million cap hit next year. Franchise tag would give Belichick a year time to find the successor.

With all due respect, they've faced one good rushing team all year so far. And gave up 7 yards a carry.

I'm confident that if the Patriots can have offensive success against the Bills, it will be on the ground.

their pass defense is filthy. We can have success rushing though.

They weren't able to run the ball at all against NO or TB, which are the two best run defense teams in the league. Buffalo is third. We had a grand total of -1 yards vs TB and 21 yards (not including Mac's rushing) vs NO.
