Game Day Thread Official Post Game Thread- Pats beat the Falcons

THIS IS OUR LIVE GAME DAY THREAD:

This is where we gather to follow things on Game Day. Obviously, emotions tend to be high so if anyone gets a little crazy, the use of the “Mute” button is encouraged on anyone who may be annoying to you to control your experience and to allow the moderators to also enjoy the game.

At the same time, please take a deep breath before over-reacting for the sake of making this a pleasant experience for everyone.

I think it's a good sign that this seemed like an average to underwhelming game for Mac Jones even though his stats were solid overall: 96.6 rating, 84.6 completion % (highest in career, 5th highest for a QB this season), 8.0 Y/A. Really seems to point to an incredibly high floor for a first year player.

discuss? what? did anyone see the Falcons team anywhere near Atlanta tonight?
At the Hertz counter at the airport according to several blue check marks.

Yep. Thursday games are designed to be a joke.
It's sad and laughable at the same time how bad the actual football is on Thursday nights. Crap ton of penalties. Poor execution. Not discounting the win whatsoever, but if there was never another Thu night game the league would be better for it.

Good game all around. Definitely could see the short week affecting the ability of the offense to prepare for Atlanta. Luckily, the defense did enough when paired with Atlanta's lack of fire power to win.

10 days for the real game. I am looking forward to the Titans game.

did anyone else think that Jonnu Smith misplayed it and made it easier for Terrell to make the interception. It seemed to me that Smith didn't attack the ball which allowed Terrell to make the play on the ball for the interception.
Not really, it seemed to be a throw that was too flat instead of lofted. A lot of seam routes tend to have to be flatter and with some zip, but in this case if he'd lofted the ball a bit and led Smith instead of targeting him more directly it's a lot less likely to be intercepted. Seam routes are also not a typical "come back to the ball" route as the design is to get behind the defender (or a lot of times between two defenders) and be led to the catch versus shielding the defender with your body and coming back to the ball.

Where I will agree is that Terrell timed his jump perfectly and Smith didn't. It was a good defensive play.

The Godchaux-Barmore-Judon triumvirate
It was Davis on the 4th and 1 as well. A rotation also keeps the rest of the line fresh and able to better contribute over a longer portion of the game at the higher level.

Van Noy could have ended the game earlier by going down on his pick. But my fantasy team who has the NE defense is really glad he didn't!

Seriously though, exactly what we wanted coming in: Take care of business, any way you can, with no injuries. Done, done, done. This defense is really good.

I was yelling at the screen for him to get down. :)

I'm sure the coaching staff was not happy with that.

But Van Noy doing that would’ve cost Phillips his pick

Sure - but that extra set of downs for Atlanta could have just as well have resulted in a defender going down too. Getting out of there healthy is a lot more important that padding stats.

I don’t think they could be too upset that he took the 6 points. It’s not very often a defensive player has the ball in his hands. That said, I was doing the same thing when Bourne caught that 75 yard pass against the cowboys a few weeks back. I still think we could have iced the game if he went down at the 1 yard line.

Didn't watch the game as it was overnight UK time but I was delighted to check my phone at 5:30am and see we'd won 25 to zip. Sounds like a typical short week encounter (does the NFL really need a Thursday game?) where the better coached team grinds out a win and moves on. Style points were irrelevant. We simply had to to back-up the Browns win and get on the bus.

Defence is lights-out at the moment. Offence is up and down but when a rookie completes 22/26 for 206 and we score 25 there can't be too much to complain about. Personally I didn't see us being this good this early in the Jones era. Beginning to think with one or two more pieces on offence we could be Superbowl bound again in the next 2-3 years.

N'Keal 2 for 2 for 15 yards, nice 9 yard grab...baby steps I guess
He was so opened on the Mac INT that I wonder if it will start to affect him. Mac had his mind made and was not scanning even though he had time. Defenders are leaving him alone because we are not throwing to him. Don't know which is worse.

I'm watching the replay, aus...early 2nd quarter...Barmore ,so far, is the best player on the field on D for either team. Mac has overshadowed Barmore's progress but this kid is nails
Did you see Barmore pissed off with Bryant for playing recklessly? I was surprised by this reaction. I hope they harsh it out.

The pats D is going to win the titans, colts, jags & dolphins games.

Can the pats split with the bills and steal the division? We’ll see.

a split with Buffalo by itself will not win the division thanks to the Miami game. We need the bills to lose at least one other game.

I think you’re crazy. But, I kinda thought you were crazy a month ago when you were talking about a NE run. And here we are. All aboard ? Choo choo ?
Climb on board.
