Game Day Thread Official Post Game Thread- Pats beat the Falcons

THIS IS OUR LIVE GAME DAY THREAD:

This is where we gather to follow things on Game Day. Obviously, emotions tend to be high so if anyone gets a little crazy, the use of the “Mute” button is encouraged on anyone who may be annoying to you to control your experience and to allow the moderators to also enjoy the game.

At the same time, please take a deep breath before over-reacting for the sake of making this a pleasant experience for everyone.

Terrell was covering Harry and broke off (that would have been a TD had Jones seen it). I doubt Smith even saw him coming until it was too late to adjust to the slightly underthrown ball.

That pick was 100% on Mac.

100%? No way. Smith didn't even look like he tried to break up the pass. Smith should have tackled that defender before letting him catch that ball. A 10 yard OPI is better than a pick. I'd agree with 50/50 for Jones/Smith on that INT.

He didn't even see the guy coming (from his blind side).

Conversely, the McCourty pick was very much on Kyle Pitts for stopping on his route.

This is accurate.
I forgot that the KC game in 2008 was a win, and what a depressing win it was...
so if we give that win to TB, since he started (but barely played)

it is:

5-11 with Bledsoe in 2000
0-2 with Bledsoe in the first two starts in 2001
10-5 with Cassel in 2008 (Brady started the first game win vs KC)
3-1 with Jimmy/Jacoby in Brady's suspension
7-9 last year with Cam/Stiddy

so 25-28 before this year

7-4 this year

32-32 total

If you instead give the KC win to Cassel, indeed it would now indeed be 33-32

I don't think any of this matters to anyone but us, because the detractors will simply include BB's Cleveland tenure. When I see this criticism of Bill in the wild, they don't specify "just the Patriots games".

Deserved to lose.

Nope. Take away 2 bad plays from the defense and 1 bad play by the offense and texans only score 9 in that one.

-the 60 yard td where jackson went for the pick and mccourty had a bad angle -7
-the bad coverage on the flee flicker after the offense turned it over and gave them a short field -7

all of texans scoring was done by the 1st minute in the 3rd quarter. pats went on a 16-0 run to end the game.

Cassel won the KC game.

3-1 with Jimmy/Jacoby in Brady's suspension

TBF that 1 loss he didn't even have a healthy QB.

Garoppolo refused to play and Brissett had a bad finger on his throwing hand that he needed season ending surgery on

The only mistake was not finding a way to make it 28-3
On that last interception I realized it would have been so cool if we had allowed 1 field goal so we could make that perfect star align too. But no, the shut-out will do nicely.

"Show us on the doll where the Patriots hurt you Matt... Matt, point to just one place... it can't be all of it..."

Patriots are 2nd in the NFL in fewest total points allowed.

Patriots have also played 1 or 2 more games than every other team in the league. The #3 team is New Orleans, who has allowed 1 extra point but have played only 9 games.

Bills are #1.
Even with less games they are still #1. Pats are #2. They haven't faced as many top offenses as the Pats, IMO.

Pats: #1 Boys, #3 Bucs, #13 Saints, #15 Chargers, #18 Browns, #21 Panthers, #26 Jets x 2. #27 Falcons, #28 Fins. #32 Texans (Avg. Rank 19.1)
Jills: # 5 Titans, #10 Chiefs, #20 WFT, #25 Steelers, #26 Jets, #28 Fins x2, #31 Jags, #32 Texans (Avg. Rank 22.8)

They’d have the same amount of losses (5). The head to head is a wash, so it goes to divisional record. Patriots have a loss to Dolphins.

Yup, if the Pats want to win the division, the best way to do it is to sweep the Bills. I'm not betting on that, but otherwise they have to at least split with them, and have Buffalo either lose two other games, or lose to the Jets (which again, I'm never relying on a week 17 Jets win to give us the division ever again. F you Brett Favrah).

Edit: And of course this is all assuming the Pats don't lose ANY other games the rest of the way either.

I like the way this team is developing on offense. We can ground and pound with 2 really good backs. Developing RZ options with Henry et al. Getting multiple skill players touches in creative ways. We are unlikely to win shootouts, but the D is making that unnecessary. And yet, Jones seems to be able to sling it on the “gotta have it” drives. This team really is quite similar to 2001. Beat the Titans and winning the division becomes very possible (and one game out of the number 1 seed).

Oh, so we need Buffalo to lose 3 more times - vs NE, Tampa, and another team OR for them to lose twice to us. That's going to be tough. All because Harris couldn't hold onto the ball and the coaching staff didn't trust Mac on 4th down. If the Pats are going to win the division, they need Indy, NO, Tampa to step up vs Buffalo.

There were so many seasons where Belichick was passed over for coach of the year due to the fact that the Patriots were so dominant. When you're expected to win 12-14 games, and you win 12-14 games, no one praises the coach for how great of a job he did.

This year is a good chance to make up for some of that (although to be fair, Vrabel has to be considered the leading candidate to this point in the season)

With only the #1 seed getting the bye, and the fact that Away teams are barely getting any disadvantage anymore (see Vegas, home/away splits), winning the division matters a lot less than it used to.

Jonnu just seems like he suddenly isn't good at football. Frying pan hands early. Lack of situational awareness. Just a strange turnaround for what a formerly top TE.

a 5th seed would likely mean heading to KC, which i’d rather avoid. I have confidence in this team, but Mac’s first playoff game at Arrowhead? As a 2 seed, we’d face a team like the chargers or pittsburgh, both of whom we can handle.

This team is better on the road than at home, so maybe we don't want HFA.

The Coach of the Year award goes to the guy who :
  • Did more with a media-perceived less
  • New flavor du jour
  • Not Belichick
There's a Belichick fatigue among voters. They could've given it to him every year they went to the Super Bowl. The fact that he only has three of these awards is absurd.

Maybe because he got paid bigly, it happens to some players. They finally get a big pay day and their performance drops off.

The scenario that makes me nervous is the Patriots finishing with a better record than the Chiefs but getting a lower seed, then having to go to KC where they’ll undoubtedly get ass ****ed by the refs. Anything else, I think they can beat anyone.
