OT: Matt Ryan

Falcons fans still believe he's not part of the problem and it's everyone else's fault. I can't imagine over a decade with nothing to show for it would buy a player that much leeway, but it seems to be a common theme among fans of teams with quarterbacks like this.

Matt Ryan, Kirk Cousins, Phillip Rivers, Matthew Stafford...the kind of QB who will trick fans, coaches, and media into thinking they're elite while constantly finding creative ways not to win important games.

Does Ryan really get a pass on 28-3? His sack was one of the dumbest sacks in NFL history. He cost his team 3 points and probably a Lombardi.

I think if Rivers makes it, Ryan should. Ryan has had a better career and has won more. Has an MVP and played great in a SB.
I don’t see Rivers making it. That’s like saying if Ryan Leaf makes it Matt Ryan should make it.

Phillip Rivers, Ben Rapist and Matt Ryan will all get in eventually, As will doofy Manning.

I gave your post a Sad emoji; not because I disagree, but because I do agree, and that makes me sad... Not sad that I agree with you, but sad that those 4 will be all wearing gold jackets eventually.

If I had to guess, the excuse there would be "the line should have protected him and the defense should have protected a 25 point lead".

That and why would an OC call a pass play with 3:56 left in game and Falcons up 28-20 on the Pats 22 yard line. All they had to do was run the ball and make the Pats use all their time outs. Kick a FG and go up 2 scores.

But Mike Shanahan wanted to be "that guy" and decided to pass and Flowers did he thing. Falcons got a holding penalty on the next play and ended up punting to Pats, Pats got ball back with 3:30 left on clock.
That pass attempt play was the game loser for the Falcons in my mind, I was a diehard Falcons fan then and remember that play very well. No way you can put that on Matt.
Taking nothing away from the incredible come back of the Pats, but if you want to blame anyone for that loss, look right at the OC for the Falcons at the time and current HC for the 49ers who passed on Mac Jones!

Nah lol, both guys are fringe. But, I think Ryan has a better case than Rivers. I'm surprised Rivers is considered a lock by most fans.

QBs get in the HOF for historically great career stats for the era they played in (Marino, Fouts) or Super Bowl wins.

Ryan has neither. #8 in yards and #10 in touchdowns won't cut it, and he's not on pace to make it up. He's 146 touchdowns behind Favre. And we uh all know his Super Bowl record.

Eli is getting in because he has 2 rings won against THE franchise of the 21st century. He didn't just beat anybody, he beat the Brady-Belichick Patriots. He doesn't need anything else to get in the HOF. It's like if Jim Plunkett beat the Joe Montana 49ers twice instead of lesser franchises.

Paradoxically, I think Pats fans should be happy that Eli gets into the hall, because it's only because of the stature of the Patriots that his rings have so much weight. If he gets 2 rings against anybody else he's Plunkett 2.0 and nobody cares. Losing to him sucked but saying he sucks doesn't make the Patriots look any better for losing to his teams.

For much of his career (not anymore today, but certainly in years past) Ryan had a very fine corps of receivers to throw to, none the least of which was Julio Jones in his prime. While still raw, I think Pitts is showing signs of greatness so maybe Ryan still has some arrows in the sling.

I agree about just how much lure those two particular SB wins have in the assessment of his HOF case, and it makes one wonder how Eli's legacy would have been looked at had only one of his two rings been won at Brady and Bill's expense (say, hypothetically, it was the Ravens he played in 46 or if you'd like, say he played the Chargers in 42).

Hes in my hall of fame. I love playing against him especially borderline field goal range

This merits more than a ‘winner’…. Stafford. People fawn over him like he’s some kinda alltimer. Pffft.

I respect Stafford but he's top 10-15. Lots of yards. Not a lot of winning but not all on him.
