Pats trade deadline thread

Didn't you think they wouldn't franchise Thuney?
Yep! I didn't think they would but wasn't overly surprised they did as he is one of the best guards in the league.

I don't think JC is one of the best CBs in the league.
Thinking that franchising Jackson is a non-starter is not paying attention to the league. And you seemed to skip the part where I said IF they don't get a long term deal done. Which I believe they will.
Lots of teams choose not to franchise players whom the deem as not worth it.

And I said 4th/5th for Bentley.. One of the changes in the equation is the player rating system.. So, who knows how that actually affects things.
Agree.

Would the Pats take on Allen Robinson's remaining salary and/or give him a long term deal? Since the Bears can't figure out to get him involved in their offense, they are may be willing to part with him. Unfortunately, he is playing on the franchise tag and cannot have his contract redone now. The Pats would either have to get him to agree to a deal before free agency (which he won't unless the Pats are paying top dollar) or give him a second franchise (which is extremely unlikely).

The Bears' willingness to trade him is based on how active in free agency they expect to be next year since Robinson is likely to net the Bears a third round compensatory pick if they aren't that active.

Must have been recently, Mark Daniels said JC no longer works with Rosenhaus.
I can't find any info JC dumped Drew but i'll take your word for it.

Significant event.

I have no idea who this guy is, so take this with a Lot's wife's sized mound of salt. But this goes to my last post.

I’ve always liked Robinson. He was my 2nd choice after Marquise Lee in the 2014 draft.

He is slightly more reliable than Mo Chanel, which is to say that he is still not reliable/credible.

Bedard (via NESN) says the Patriots are looking for a defense end who can also defend the run. Sounds like the kind of role they had Henry Anderson in before his injury. Off the top of my head, Clelin Ferrell and LJ Collier are two recent disappointing draft picks who have been in trade rumors. Trey Flowers is out there too, but I think there'd have to be three negotiations there. The Lions have to eat 2021 salary, Flowers needs to cut his 2022 salary, and of course the actual trade compensation.

We don't have any money.

The only ways we can get premium talent in a trade:

- Have the incoming player's old team pick up most of his salary...which means we have to give draft comp to make that happen.

OR

- Trade someone we have who carries a high salary.

I don't see us doing either...we need our draft capital badly...we won't have a lot money to spend in March even if DMac/Hightower retire/go elsewhere....what we have in house will have to do for 2021-2022....and we'll have to hit home runs in the draft, IMO.

Not really a big surprise. Of course, defensive ends who can rush the passer and defend against the run and would somehow be available in a trade aren’t exactly a dime a dozen…. I thought Anderson was just more of a run guy and not a pass rusher, so I wouldn’t view it as an Anderson replacement.

Agree Trey Flowers would be interesting given his past success here, but they’d need to rework his deal.

I want a Trey Flowers reunion badly but I don't see how the financials can work without Trey taking a serious haircut.

The Washington Football Team is 2-6 & can’t afford to keep all of their DL. I think the pats could rent Tim Settle for relatively cheap. He wouldn’t do anything to the cap & doesn’t play much because he’s behind Allen & Payne. I wouldn’t be surprised if they make a mid-tier move today. I’d go after DL & get another piece next to Judon & Barmore.

First i dont think Pats are in the rent situation atm.
Second, Settle would not see much of the field in NE this yr with Guy&God stepping up their game and fit BB like a glove not to mention monster surge of Barmore and emergence of Ekuale. I liked him as trade option during FA but this is a very different situation now and even in best case does not move the needle.

~$15m franchise tag for JC Jackson is a non-starter. No way I see the team doing that.

FT for legit CB is always a better business than G.

I love Thuney but wasting 15M of Cap on a one yr rental for a guard in a wasted season was a big mistake. One of the biggest roster building mistakes BB made knowing rebuild was coming up and Tom was gone. (interesting that Thuney signed FT on March 19 and Tom for Tampa on 20th)

I think he would at this point to get out of Detroit. They are misusing badly right now putting him at OLB. He’s made a lot of money.

If he doesn’t leave this season, I see Detroit working with him on a trade in the offseason.

The more salary the Lions eat, the better the trade comp. Still hard to see how the Pats (or most other teams) take on his salary. His remaining 2021 cap hit is about $10.5m.

The Patriots walked a fine line last year by not spending a lot but not showing the fans base they are giving up on 2021.

Keeping Gilly and Thuney showed they did not give up.

Would love Robinson! OBJ is probably more likely and I bet neither are really going anywhere.
