Pats trade deadline thread

Here is the thing.....

I don't think the NEP will be buyers in next year's FA market which means any players whos contract expire will be comp-pick eligible.

The only players I see as possibly fetching us picks are High, DMC and JC.

Lots of unknowns but if BB thinks this team has a shot at making it out of the AFC, they need a better than average boundary CB to help deal with Allen, Mahomes, etc.
Sorry, Rob, but Jackson's getting franchised if they can't work out a long term deal. Which I think they can. Especially after they worked out a deal with Gilmore that brought him to NE.

As mentioned by @Rob0729, Phillips is probably going to figure in.

Also, you have the issue with McCourty that the compensation for 10 year vets is limited to a 5th round pick at most, so it's highly unlikely he nets that.

Ja'Whaun Bentley is more likely to figure in as a 4th/5th round comp pick than HT or DMac. And Someone is likely to over-pay for Trent Brown again..

No way Hightower nets a 5th round pick. I love him, but he's been mediocre this year. Certainly not the play-maker that we're used to.

I'd be for Byrd or Patterson if we add a WR.

Trey Flowers is likely available for trade. I am not sure if the Pats would want him back with his contract. But he definitely could add some speed on defense.

~$15m franchise tag for JC Jackson is a non-starter. No way I see the team doing that.

I think Bentley has had a nice year thus far. 4th seems high but i'll go along.

Agree on DMC. Didn't know that rule.

I still have faith High will round into form. If hes playing like this in December/Jan I agree his comp will be zip and he'll retire.

I always thought that trade was more about sending Thomas where he wanted to go after the Patriots had jerked him around all training camp.
Sure, maybe. I'm just showing that these teams will trade with each other.

Inside, outside… they just need some more talent and depth. They play mostly zone now anyway and will do so more without Jon Jones. They may already have the answer at outside corner if they can fix their reclamation projects in Shaun Wade or Sean Davis so this conversation may be all for naught.

I agree. They are going to try to rebuild the corner position between what they have and spending draft capital.

In a way they have replaced Gilmore with Judon. Obviously different positions/roles, but Judon seems a defensive player of the year threat some year.

With Judon they have an anchor to rush the passer and lead the front seven. Not to overlook Hightower who has won us Super Bowls, but in a game Judon does more for you.

I wouldn't be surprised if BB doesn't view JC as a great player and lets him go. Plus JC dropped Rosenhaus. I liked our chances much better with Rosenhaus.

The Patriots need help, imho, at CB and ILB.

ILB - Bentley's improvement has been very good. He's gotten back to being above average. The Pats have had Van Noy playing there and Tavai. The problem is that Van Noy is freelancing too much or he doesn't know his assignments or both. He cost the Pats HUGE in both the Cowboys game and the Chargers game. Hightower doesn't have the sideline-to-sideline speed that's needed for the position. Tavai is still learning the defense, but he seems more of a downhill type guy and not a sideline-to-sideline guy.

CB - JC Jackson, Mills, Wade, Poole, Bausby, JoeJuan Williams, Miles Bryant. Mills has been hampered since his hamstring injury. Wade suffered a concussion in practice and has missed 4 games because of it. Poole and Bausby were just added though I expect Poole to get added to the roster at some point. He was always a thorn in the Pats side when he was on the Jets. Would have wanted him previously if it weren't for Jonathan Jones.

As people have mentioned, the Pats need a corner who can play inside and outside. It seems they passed on DJ Hayden when they signed Bausby and Poole. I'm not a Kyle Fuller (Broncos) fan.

I'd look at lesser known or underutilized players like William Jackson III (WFT), Keith Taylor (Car), Dontae Jackson (Car), Desmond Trufant (LV), Keion Crossen (NYG).

Eagles Stephen Nelson is cheap and pretty good.

DeSean Jackson will reportedly be released when/if no trade is found today, according to NFLN.

There's now some talk from PFT that Beckham may not have trade value but that the Browns could release him and dare a team to claim his remaining contract for no trade compensation.

Didn't you think they wouldn't franchise Thuney?
Thinking that franchising Jackson is a non-starter is not paying attention to the league. And you seemed to skip the part where I said IF they don't get a long term deal done. Which I believe they will.

And I said 4th/5th for Bentley.. One of the changes in the equation is the player rating system.. So, who knows how that actually affects things.

When did JC fire Rosenhaus?

Myles Jack would be someone who'd I'd look at since he supposedly fell out of favor with Urban Meyer.

Frankie Tuvu of the Panthers and Sione Takitaki (Cle) are two underutilized players who could be help at LB and on Special Teams. Upgrades over Brandon King.

I wonder if they might franchise JC and then trade him for a 2nd. That's become increasingly common.

I can't find anything on JC dropping Rosenhaus.. Are you confusing JC with DeSean Jackson? Who did fire Rosenhaus and lost a grievance to Rosenhaus?
